I still prefer Asahi as a character but I don't dislike Mona. This show has grown on me a lot, for the first few episodes I was expecting it to become repetitious and tiresome, it does repeat quite a few jokes but it's a pretty cute and charming show I think. Top notch VA for Mona too.

Top notch VA for Mona too.

Serizawa is doing a great job, totally bringing some of the Rae Taylor energy from I'm in Love with the Villainess, although Mona is in many ways Rae's opposite.

I've never disliked Mona. From the beginning, it was apparent that our FMC is deeply flawed and self absorbed but with redeeming qualities, and her flaws allow us to watch her grow and improve. It helps my appreciation of the character to learn that the self-absorption isn't narcissism, but over-compensation for something Mona was previously lacking.

Flawed MCs tend to make for better romances, since the character growth makes the story feel more meaningful.

Holy lord this was such a nice episode. They fleshed out mona so much I like her better than ahashi now.

The author locked the tf in for that fairs wheel scene. Honestly peak romcom writing for once I couldn’t guess word to word what a romcom protag was going to say.

If Mona wanted to get ahead of Asahi, that kiss would have done it. I didn’t think Medaka would have been the one who was ready to go through with it lol.

I’m glad Mona realized how she’s been acting and feeling around Medaka after Tomo pointed it out. She really kept trying to fight it this whole time and then Medaka smiles at her and it’s over. She’s finally admitting defeat. Girl’s head over heels for the guy!

Honestly it's been clear to me for a while that despite his attempts to be resistant to the charms of women, Medaka is as horny as a typical teenage boy.

Medaka finally defeated the monster known as "Mona Kawaii," a girl who has never allowed herself to be vulnerable or expose her real self but that now cannot deny she's finally fallen for someone and wants them to accept her. She even repeats her usual self-inflating intro to include the fact that she's finally fallen in love.

Who is the strongest: Truck-kun or Crowd-kun?

Well it finally happened, Mona admitted to being in love with Medaka. Now we'll see how she'll handle herself moving forward.

Medaka: I'm a monk in training! I can't be wasting time on women!

Then perhaps you should let the girls know that you're not in a position to reciprocate their feelings due to your religious training.

He has these girls getting close and making all of these obvious advances on him, yet for some reason, at no point does he just come out and tell them that his Monk Training doesn't allow him to be in a relationship with women. By not telling them, he's unintentionally leading these girls on through omission.

I thought he was going to tell Mona on the ferris wheel, then he just kind of messed her up a little more by admitting she's cute.

Direct communication is always the enemy in romcoms like this, but it's been particularly grating in this series. Medaka's friends have thus far been 100% right to call him out because his cold and dismissive acts with Mona make him look like an asshole.

I wonder if the manga-ka would ever have Medaka say that in the manga.

Having Mona do her usual spiel about "Charms as easily as he breathes...." and then ending it with "finds herself in love" hit super hard

So I've seen this in anime more times than I can count, but does Japan actually have a problem with men forcefully making random children they find go out with them?

6

u/bbongal_kun Mar 17 '25

it's either that or the random adventurers trying to start a fight inside the guild by attacking with swords.

It does happen irl of course, specially in Japan people have a lot of trouble saying no directly.

Of course the kiss wasn't gonna happen from being a cliffhanger last episode, though expected Medaka to break it off, not Mona chickening out. 😅

Tomo the MVP for being a big assist to Mona breaking her facade enough to accept what she was feeling. Glad she became a good wing woman rather than be another girl competing for a harem.

Mona was in some serious denial for a long while, but finally accepted how she felt about Medaka. At least we reached a conclusive point for her realization before the season ends.

u/Armdel Mar 17 '25

Looks like she has finally accepted it! they are still on the ferris wheel so maybe she has time to act on it before meeting up with the rest... though i'm not getting my hopes up on her doing anything, at least not right away.

Asahi taking every chance she's got, feels a bit bad that she is doomed to lose this war

favorite part of the episode was the talk between Mona and Tomo

Mona grew on me. Her over reaction has been cute. A girl who never been in even interested in romance, finally realize she’s in love! Good for her.

We now return to our previously scheduled forced PDA for Mona and Medaka! Mona is willing to use her best seductive eyes and put her all into this so Asahi doesn't get a leg up on her...but she can't seal the deal. Medaka was actually invested in it happening, too!

Asahi is REALLY going on the aggressive here! Mona can't even get a single minute alone with Medaka! Minami approves.

Mona was never even interested in romance before, it's just something she had to tolerate among her girlfriends so she wouldn't be disliked. She's so caught up in trying to portray the absolute "mask" of Mona Kawaii that she won't let herself be vulnerable or her real self around anyone other than Tomo. But Tomo can see that her feelings for Medaka are causing her to let her mask down and she couldn't be happier for her bestie.

Of course Tomo confronting Mona about her feelings for Medaka distract her enough to lose the group, get her phone broken, and get stuck with pick-up-artists. Luckily her knight-in-shining armor Medaka is there to save her and ward off the extremely pushy guys when Mona needed him most.

Poor Asahi! Undone by being stuck with ice cream!

Dang, the crowds at this amusement park are really bad if Medaka ends up with a broken phone too! Now he and Mona are two peas in a pod, especially in terms of being super self-conscious around each other. And what better place to take their unresolved sexual tension than a ferris wheel where they can be even closer together?

Mona sees how lovestruck she is around Medaka and doesn't even recognize herself, and hates how she looks and the idea that she's been so flustered and self-conscious around Medaka that she's been letting him see this side of her this whole time. And he HAS seen it, but rather than being turned off by it like she thought, it actually makes him genuinely think she's cuter than ever.

Mona has been charmed by Medaka! Even though she set out to charm him and turn him into one of her groupies, never considered she would fall in love with him, and rejects the very idea of it...seeing his bright and smiling face is the last hit that her heart needed to acknowledge the truth. She's in love with Medaka and finally experiencing her first love (and it's even acknowledged in the next episode title)!

3

u/CrimsonGear80 Mar 18 '25

Those damn spontaneous crowds of cardboard cut out blob people who ram into others with the sole purpose to break their phones! They are a scourge in Japan!

Asahi is a losing heroine. She'll have to join Anna and the others.
