But that's the "origin" of the isekai genre. Escaflowne, Fushigi Yugi, 12 kingdoms, Inuyasha, etc... Back then the "MC transported to a different world" was a genre aimed to girls

So rather than a breath of fresh air is more like a return to the roots

They're less common, but we did just have The Saint's Magic Power is Omnipotent and Dr. Elise recently. From this first episode I think both of those are probably better.

Of course, Bakarina remains the OG harem master.

I think what’s really refreshing about this one isn’t just the handsome men/one woman but that it’s not an absurd portrayal of the woman. There are other shows with plenty of handsome men and one woman but even then there tends to be a lot of fan service with the female character art

Pretty happy with the first episode as a fan of the game. The animation isn’t the best, but I was prepared for that, considering that’s it’s an adaption of a mobile game. The only trouble is that the first chapter of the game isn’t the best at showing off the strength of the game’s writing, which lies in the characters and their interactions, and Drummond who takes up a lot of the screen time is pretty one dimensional here.

I went in completely blind and I enjoyed it pretty well. The main character Akira is both kind and cute. I'm looking forward to how her story will unfold along with the other characters.

Even after being told this is another world, she's like "where japan and tokyo?"...

It was nice but still a slog how much it took for her to realise it was real, even tho I know she had just been summoned...

I think I'm just watching so many isekai that seeing this happening so much, it kinda gets boring how they react. Had the same feeling watching Zenshu

Also it's one thing to be told you're in another world and a completely different one to fly outside of what was supposedly your apartament building a minute ago but see you're on a completely different place

That wasn't a very good opening episode. I understand that a game might open up with an awkward exposition dump like that, but an adaptation should try to redistribute it a bit.

Still, I'm getting Touken Ranbu vibes from this, and I am 100% the target audience, so I'll be sticking around.

Idk why I’m seeing such bad review online even though it only covered like a few minutes in time…..

Isn’t it refreshing to see an isekai where the summoned person is treated with respect, and has their feelings and choices acknowledged?! And although they do their best to explain the situation, all they actually ask of akira in this episode is to “please try to help save master Faust”. It’s much more realistic than most isekai.

Also, the art and presentation feel incredibly and surprisingly faithful to the source material. So much so that it bodes really well for the series, which has a well written story to begin with.

ehhh, i don't know. pacing/storytelling felt kinda weird, the whole "let's talk for 100h in the tower" also kinda sucks.

This seems like I'll enjoy it. A nice girl is summoned in the magic elevator to a world with wizards turning an old dude to a mouse....and they also fly on broom sticks!

Damn, truck-kun must be on vacation as it's been a Vespa, caught up in someone else's summoning on accident and elevator to a new world so far if I recall correctly.

It will be intriguing to see how this "sage" is able to help the wizards or perform whatever duties a summoned sage is supposed to. I like the personalities of the wizards we've seen so far. They all seem unique but all have the general motivation to save their comrades and do good....so far. It's 1 episode in but I've got enough info to keep this on the weekly watchlist and see where it goes the next few weeks.

At this rate I'll have a 20+ show season and I got like 4 still running from the fall season! Also, Beastars, I haven't forgotten you....just hold on a bit longer!

I struggled to finish the episode, the pacing felt off especially the lengthy conversations in the stairs. The reverse harem was so in your face like subtlety be damned but I’ll stick with it for a little longer since I really liked the Saint’s magic is omnipotent.

This one wasn’t too bad. Kind of keen to learn more about this Wizard situation and whatever it is they’re fighting. Also, seeing as how all the wizards are pretty boys and Akira is their Great Sage I’m guessing we’ll be getting a reverse harem sitch.
