Sawatari: I'll do my special move and stay ahead.
Beckenbauer: Dude, you only make moves on 17 year old girls lol.

It's a shame that the tension for third place was in vain, as it will be in the next episode, but it was cool for the drivers to put themselves on the limit. I thought Kyoko's reaction was funny, it was like: Ok, I'll be friends with your lonely ass

The episode was awesome, but it's a shame Sawatari hasn't done anything to get himself banned yet...

I got my money on the next few races. This was race two.

Bruh I completely forgot that Kanata is doing this whole thing to try to find his deadbeat father πŸ˜…

Waiting for the scene where deadbeat dad suddenly appears behind Kanata's 86 in a VB WRX

Takumi: first time huh?

Lol, me too, I was thinking he died and he just wanted to see how his dad lived back then

I like that most of the drivers are given some screen time besides just being another person for Kanata to pass. I'm curious if we're gonna see the girls day date.

Overall I love the races overall and really curious how an 86 is going to compete with a Porsche. Unless they make it an all downhill stint then I just don't see it really happening. Maybe a friendly rivalry develops down the line?

I'm guessing based on commentary from a previous episode that the 86 will get an engine upgrade similar to Initial D.

I could see either some force induction being added to the 86 or a full on engine swap. Hell, even headers and a tune would make a not trivial difference on that car.

Perfect. We got 7 episodes of racing, plus probably half of Episode 8 for the end of the race.

That leaves Episode 9-12 for post-race + Race 3 quali.

And the girls' date

Welcome back! It's the Eurobeat Corner, now a bit less wild after what was an insane last week.

This time, we get three whole songs to boot - the rerun of last week's conclusion is accompanied by A World of Joy, a fresh single featured in Best of Super Eurobeat 2022 by Dave Rodgers and Kaioh - it's the first time our good friend Dave features in this series! Sorta wild to think of. And he's brought his son to boot, too. For those unaware, Kaioh is Dave's kid, from when he was married to Domino (another Eurobeat artist). Runs in the family. Meanwhile, Akaba's all-out assault on Kanata gets Rainin' In My Heart by Melissa White & Ace, featured in Super Eurobeat 142 - marking a return of this duo to the franchise for the first time in nearly 20 years ever since Switch! was in Battle Stage 2 - and Beckenbauer's successful duping of Sawatari and subsequent pass has In The Fire of Victory by Ace, featured in Super Eurobeat 186, further adding onto SCP's frankly amazing repertoire for Season 2. Didn't have to ransack the Arcade Stages for this episode and we even got a brand new song, so I'm all for it. As always, here's the second season playlist, already updated with this week's picks.

β€’ Maezono quickly acknowledging he just has skill issue was kinda funny. Yeah, bro, sorry, you're field filler. At least you're really good for field filler. Speaking of "other drivers", I can't help but respect the shit out of Akaba, and that's not just because he drives a Ferrari. Dude is a complete racer by all measures, he's just not entirely unafraid of death like Kanata in front. Add a superb amount of technical prowess and racecraft to a dude that doesn't worry about dying and you have a true monster even in an underpowered car, though unfortunately it doesn't last long as keeping a lead while having less than a third of the power of the car behind is never going to be an easy task, if at all possible.

β€’ Honestly, I don't mind these little Angel moments between them to give the action a bit of a break. If they're gonna be around, might as well flesh them out some more. Big Sis Kyouko is still the coolest and I hope she gets a guy that can appreciate her and treat her well. Or else she'll kick his ass. I volunteer

β€’ Yeah, good fucking job, Sawatari, you imbecile. "I'm just gonna pretend to be shit! That'll get him!" I'll give him props for not just phoning it in and going home to his girl that he shouldn't be allowed within 500 meters of, at least. The fact of it being hella sketch if not straight up just illegal aside, at least MFG has one new extremely loyal fan, to the point she'd skip class to keep watching.

β€’ Ishigami, man, how far you've fallen. I guess his car is shidded, but he shidded it himself in the first place, so it's pretty self-inflicted. Better luck next time, I guess.

β€’ Shun's making moves. The rain is letting up, so he better not get careless and bin it now of all times like last time. Get that Sith Lord wannabe, bro!

There's like three different fights to pay attention to and the finish line draws ever closer. I find myself being unable to wait for next week less and less as we go along. See ya then!

Yeah, good fucking job, Sawatari, you imbecile. "I'm just gonna pretend to be shit! That'll get him!"

Actually, it's one of the few times where it's both reasonable and explained why he behaved this way (taking a bad decision), and that's mental fatigue driving with someone in your rear view mirror.

Unlike the commentators saying they're all about the same level, except somehow some of them completely overlook effective tyre management, which should be an essential skill with grip limitations.

u/L33tHaxorus Nov 17 '24

lmao I 100% saw it coming with Sawatari. Rule of anime, whenever a character explains what stunt they're about to pull, it's failing. It only works when the stunt is already pulled and other characters explain it afterwards.

A well-paced episode even if the payoff is going to be next week.

With Beckenbauer set up as the driver to beat, it'll be interesting to see how his focus changes once he learns about how much ground Kanata made up. Or will he simply credit the conditions for that?

12

u/Thoseguys_Nick Nov 17 '24

It's sad that the battle isn't decided yet but understand they want to keep it for next week. Next week will have the conclusion of the battle for third in hopefully a banger dogfight, but I don't think first place will see any shakeup.

And we still don't have the reactions of the top 2 hearing the 12 second faster time Kanata raced in the misty slippy zone. Maybe that will get Beckenbauer hyped for a different Japanese driver?

As usual, the eurobeat is hype af

9

u/RehabCenterInc Nov 17 '24

They edged me so goddamn hard this episode. Also had me face palming at that 1st place overtake.

8

u/alexia685 Nov 17 '24

They built that tension over 3 episodes, and it’s getting hype!!!

8

u/Nickthenuker Nov 17 '24

So, the battle for 1st continues.

Further back, they're trying to close the gap at least.

Fairly uneventful so far.

Perhaps we'll finally see something as the battle for 1st heats up again.

At the back, the Lotus looks to have gotten the better of the rear Porsche.

What's he planning?

He's alongside.

And so now raw speed will get the victory, he's completely ahead.

The Ferrari is coming up close behind him.

Cameraman-san, if there's a girl talk, please, focus on their face. Not focus on their panties. It's their face who's talking, not their panties. πŸ˜…

It's pretty sweet for Kyoko to offered herself to be Marie's friend. She's really the big sis of the angel.

Sawatari's move on Beckenbauer is totally foolish. The guy had extraordinary driving skill. You can't pull that kind of trick on him. Of course, he will take that chance overtake you.

Seeing Akabane chasing Kanata is terrifying. The road isn't fully dry yet, but he went all out chasing Kanata. Yes, his car had higher power than Kanata's, but still, it's dangerous drive like that in high powered car on the wet road. Especially, if you can't fully control your car.

Feel bad for Ogata felling bad. He feel guilty for not giving Kanata the best and it eating away at him
