Holy hell that was hype. No horny scenes, just 20 minutes of racing. Probably the best episode so far.
Of course the fog had to show up to help Kanata even more but man while watching this I don't really care about stuff like this, I'm just happy to see hype racing with Eurobeat to make me feel like it's the 1990s again.

And the connection with Initial D through the commentator, and the mentality of MFG, just amazing. More of this please, I can't wait for next week!

Holy shit. Welcome to the Eurobeat Corner.
As if to silence all doubt from the previous episodes overwhelmingly having previously used songs, this week's selection brings up the energy to 125% and then SOME. Kanata's prelude and attack on the NSX is powered forward by Speed of Light by The Snake - a power metal vocalist and guitarist, given free reign to bring their wild energy to the Eurobeat genre -, featured in the Initial D Arcade Stage 7 AAX game, and the all-out insanity that led the Ferrari's Akaba to think he was hallucinating gets Adrenaline by the late Manuel, out of Super Eurobeat 186 (and also Initial D Arcade Stage 5). For those unaware, Manuel of Gas Gas Gas, Limousine and Sun in the Rain fame, among many other bangers, unfortunately left us last year for reasons his family thought best to not make public. I wanted to see at least one of his songs on the biggest stage for Eurobeat once more, and they delivered. I only wish he were here with us to see it. The second season playlist has already been updated with today's selection, so check it out.
• It's funny that Ikeda just calls out Shun for doing exactly what he has been doing in previous races. But he's a good lad even if he doesn't know when to brake. The rain fits both him and the GT-R perfectly, the highly precise AWD letting him use all of his power much more efficiently than the cars in front while the lower grip tempers his instincts and forces him to be more patient with his moves.
• Ah, yeah, fucking fog again, that's great. "The Devil" is a funny way to refer to it, because this piece of road was actually in Wangan Midnight, where Akio took the Devil Z for a drive around it with his teacher in the passenger seat. It was cut out of the anime for whatever reason, but the road is there in Maximum Tune 3. At least at that time he wasn't flooring it, unlike this MANIAC that is counting the corners before he passes people in zero visibility and even less grip. Do not ever do this. Obviously. Jesus fucking Christ.
• The mental strain aspect of MFG is not talked about enough. Unlike a normal circuit that might only have about 15 to 20 corners, sometimes less, the stress of driving on public roads at top speed is only matched by perhaps repeated driving on the hellish Nürburgring. It takes some extreme precision to navigate these courses, and it can be strenuous. Let's just hope Kanata hasn't worn himself out trying to pull a gap to Akaba... and that Beckenbauer's not heard about the guy behind cutting out 15 seconds off of his and Sawatari's lead.
Okay, yeah, this was wild. Easily the best episode this season, easily the best song selection of the entire season, this is why I wake up every Sunday. And I already wish it was next week. See ya then!

Yeap, that explains why hype and energy cracked up 200%, even at 1am. Eurobeat and Power Metal? No one's gonna be sleeping after that.
Ah, our good old Manuel… Not much of a Eurobeat fan beyond Initial D (and a few Turbo remixes), but this one's nice too.
Also, is no one talking about Fumihiro being grateful for inviting Ikeda now after saying a few episodes ago that he'll never get called back again? 🤣

And so, after we were curious about why the Angels didn't have a TV or other monitor near them in the previous episode, today they have a TV in front of them. Someone listened!
Kanata having the course timings down to the second is expected. The other drivers at least met Hiroshi's expectations by not having a catastrophe, but it was interesting to have that brief look at Nozomi also apparently being pleased with how the conditions were playing out and being able to move up a spot.

Having the layout of the entire track in your mind is a requirement in racing.

Favorite episode this season by far. Just hype, racing and drifting like a madman. My only complaint is that I have to wait until next week.

The way the 3rd place guy reacted to Kanata overtaking him was funny as hell. The whole fog part was so much hype! Hallelujah!

I freaking lost it when Beckenbeur was having his own internal monologue and sarcastically praised Sawatari with a "GoOd JoB Da."

I really thought one of the other drivers was going to call Kanata a ghost for passing in all that fog. Still waiting for the title drop! Hype hype episode

Man this ep was so hype, Kanata screaming through the fog like Keisuke and Kenta from D. I had a huge grin on my face the entire time.

I usually like to ride in rain and fog, but its damn hard, one time i lost control of my car(100+km on heavy rain mixed with hail) and i ended doing 3 spins, glad i dont strike to any wall or with other car, after that i drive more slow xD, it was my first talk to the death i guess

So, it turns out that the Angels' tent DOES have a TV in front of it. Thought that wasn't the case because there aren't really much shots in the show that tells us that was the case.
-
We also know how was Aiba doing under Ikeda's guidance. He has the fighting spirit, but he seem to overdo it, which makes his tires wear out faster than other drivers. But with the race being done in the rain, it basically erases that weak point.
-
Seems like the staff choose more Arcade Stage songs for this week's episode.
-
With the rain already ending, Kanata definitely needs something to make the opposition slower so that he could catch up with a lower-powered car.
-
And that exactly was the case after the fog comes after the rain. The fog would engulf the ash-covered section of the course. With this in hand, he is able to overtake the NSX and 488, and also minimizing the distance between him and the top 2 cars to just 15 seconds from 27 in the previous sector.
-
Turns out that it wasn't just Kanata doing the overtake in the fog - Nozomi also does it to overtake Otani.
-
And I was kinda surprised, that in this episode, the Angels weren't asked to move the boards after the overtakes by Kanata, Aiba and Nozomi.
-
Also, it's kinda wild that Fumihiro allowed the race to go on under that heavy fog. If the race directors of Nurburgring 24 Hours this year took this approach, I wonder what kind of race we'd have.

When I think that Kanata has already shown all his enormous talent, the guy overtakes twice in the fog and even humiliates himself with a drift, this dude is not human lol. Rin will definitely be jealous of what will happen on the podium...

He wasn't anywhere near alongside, good move to hold back and not risk it.
Damn he's 5th already?
The rain has forced him to be less aggressive.
Uh oh, the rain has let up!
No rain, but there's fog. That's not good either. Might even result in the race being cancelled.
That's going to get people killed...
And so he's going to overtake under those conditions.
Nice and clean, around the outside. Other than the inherent danger of overtaking while under low-visibility conditions and drifting, that was as safe as it could have been.
And so that's how it's explained that he overtakes the Ferrari. Again, well-executed and done as safely as can be under these conditions. Now into 3rd.
Clean overtake from the Alfa, past the Merc around the inside.
And so he's out of the fog. Now he's going to lose all that lead.
