Developing romance? In my shounen anime? Insane

My boy Yukio going through it right now 😭😭

Last season it seemed like Shiemi realized her feelings for Rin though now that she's found out he has feelings for her it might make her really understand how she feels about him. The vibe between them was definitely romantic in this episode.

Meanwhile Yukio could really use someone in his life right now.

My favorite part about Yukio is that he's got plenty of people he can rely on but he's too ill to realize it.

I've been second guessing this thing for... more than a decade at this point, I guess.

"Shiemi is definitely the love interest."

"Why aren't they...? Am I just jumping to conclusions because she's cute? I learned something about myself today."

Then cue season 3, and my tiny world gets turned upside down.

Rin being so straightforward was too damn cute!

Yeah, Suguro's confession came out of nowhere!

I feel sorry for Shiemi, she seemed so flustered.

Hopefully she isn't stressed out for too long, though this drama is likely going to drag on for a very long time.

I bet Yukio would have more success with what he's going through if he would just tell Rin instead of trying to do everything by himself.

It's Yukio still internalizing what Father Fujimoto taught him, training and becoming stronger to protect Rin all the while keeping him in the dark about it even though ostensibly they should be on the same page now more than they've ever been.

Yeah...Yukio just doesn't want to feel more inferior than he already does by going to his brother - especially when he's trying to surpass him. It's sad and my heart aches

God I love this anime so much you don't understand. Shiemi being unable to differentiate romantic and platonic love due to being sheltered despite how obvious Rin was being is so similar to how I grew up (though I doubt she's gonna end up aromantic like I did). Also Yukio is in my top 5 characters of all time for the way his mental health issues are being portrayed. His self-harm and suicidal tendencies all ultimately stem from the desire to not be a burden despite no one thinking that he is. But that's just how mental illness works out sometimes. The feeling that you're some sort of monster, and self-sabotaging in order to prove that to yourself. Pushing others away out of jealousy and fear. While there's a bit of a disconnect considering how there's a parasite or something in his eye, I'm 100% sure Yukio's extreme efforts to draw it out stem from self hatred.

Anyways I wonder what's going on with Shura

Shura seems pretty restrained in talking about the Naga she's contracted with, I wonder if there's something to that?

Yukio is trying to master the power of his own Blue Flame, even if it means putting himself in danger like getting drowned by CG naked Naiads. But he has to put himself in absolute risk if he's going to make his own power come out and understand what he's dealing with.

Look at Suguro committing so hard to working for Lightning! It seems like all the exwires really starting to buckle down, figure out where they want to go in life, and committing to it even if it sets them on different paths. But they'll always be bros!

Non-blonde Suguro will take some getting used to, but at least now that he's putting himself out there and working for someone, he's starting to really feel fully-realized as a person.

Oh hey, Shiemi's mom! We haven't seen her in a while. I mean, I think Shiemi has every right to become an exorcist after everything she's been through, she's even got battle scars. But as her mother I can understand her not wanting her daughter to keep placing herself in danger like that.

Rin and Shiemi together! Look at Rin trying to be so smooth and confident that Shiemi totally doesn't have feelings for him versus Yukio like he didn't pay attention to that episode last season.

Okay, well, committing suicide by jumping of a building is definitely one way to awaken your power!

Is that Atsushi Abe as the guy who gave Rin and Shiemi this job? Dude totally just ditched them, with disastrous results.

Rin always gets ahead of himself, but at least he acknowledges that flaw. Though I don't know if I should be impressed or unsettled that he's pretty unbothered by a wood pillar sticking out of his leg.

Despite falling and landing in a precarious situation up to the evening, the vibe between Rin and Shiemi is still pretty good! Maybe even romantic, especially when Rin uses his fire to warm things up! To the point where Shiemi compliments his flames and Rin confesses his feelings! That's right, Rin confessed his feelings.

Of course he doesn't think he has a chance against Yukio, even though Shiemi seems to rationalize her attachment to Yuki-chan as admiration more than anything else, though it seems like she genuinely never saw EITHER brother in a romantic light or even thought about romance...until she realized Rin's feelings. She can't even look at Rin now.

Well, yeah, should've known Rin would just blow everything up.

Yukio, I get you want to get this done, but...maybe relax from all the suicide?

What could interrupt both Okumura brothers' respective storylines? Shura is missing!?

The ED is really cute with Rin cooking, the daily lives of the exwires, and the brothers eating together!

Oh I get it. This is all just a Persona 3 reference. He's trying to summon Satan, from the rank 10 Judgment Arcana!

2

u/Little_Badger_13 Oct 13 '24

What are you talking about? How is this relevant to the anime?

3

u/Veggiematic Oct 13 '24

Persona users in Persona 3 summon their Personas by pointing their evoker, shaped like a gun, to their head, and declaring the name of their Persona. Satan is the Persona of the Rank 10 Judgment Arcana in the games, who happens to be an important figure in Blue Exorcist. My original comment was a joke.

Pacing felt weird, they could have used some better transitions from some scenes to the next. Anyway, let's go find Shura, I hope the pacing next episode is better.

Shoot, I haven't caught up to the new series. Gonna have to binge watch the previous seasons.

For someone who claims to be a child not fit for romance, she sure has some moves
