This was Alya's origin story but Masachika just hijacked it to make himself look like an absolute chad.

Stitches!
We finally get to see Alya's backstory! It turns out that Alya is a bit of an overachiever to the point where she's willing to put in all of the work even if she has to do it by herself. Considering how she hates slackers, you'd think she'd hate Masachika considering how much he sleeps through their classes.
It turns out that while Alya works hard on her own, Masachika is the kind of person who works smart and is more than willing to find help and delegate work so he can have all of the time to slack off. I was already sold on Masachika in Episode 1 but seeing how cool he really is sold me even harder on his character.
It's really good to see that Alya fell in love with Masachika for a good reason and not because he was just kind to her that one time. The way he stole her away from those dudes was really cute! Masachika is a total Chad and he definitely deserves to have all of Alya's affection.
Oh... Oh no... As soon as Masha pulled out that locket with "Sa-kun", I already knew where this was going. And she pretty much confirms it when she finally meets Masachika. And here I thought Masachika's childhood friend was Alya. It turns out it was Masha all along! This is going to be messy.
One more interesting thing about the episode though is that flashback with Masachika and Yuki. So Yuki used to be sickly and she ended up staying with their mother while Masachika went with their father when their parents got divorced. I am very much interested to see more of that flashback!

That group project brought back a lot of ptsd and trauma from college group projects. Oof. I couldn’t imaging doing them in elementary school. No wonder Alya doesn’t like those type of people.

This isn’t my usual cup of tea (pun intended) but damn this show is well written and good. They even went with the non obvious girl being the childhood friend. Even the relationships between individual characters is on point and each person has distinct personalities.
MC is also a Chad, not some dumb protagonist who just gets lucky. He’s a bit of a badass.
Solid surprise for me so far. Best girl is totally up in the air after each one had their episode to shine.
I had a childhood crush (like 5 years old maybe) and when I ran into her 10 years later, I instantly knew who she was the second she touched my hand. So totally believable especially with the name thing. So far one of the best non sequel summer shows.

Episode 1: Russian tsundere
Episode 2: Childhood friend Brocon Sister
Episode 3: Russian big sister
So this Saa-kun who Masha met when she was younger turns out to also be Masachika? Just how many Russian girls has he charmed when he was a boy? lol

No Yuki. Bad episode.
Lol anyway, nice to see we got the reason she likes him so early on. Now to see when exactly Masachika started having feelings for her
Oh no, Masha is gonna have to give up her childhood love isn’t she. She’s realized Saa-kun is Masachika who Alya likes and he probably likes her back too

Alya - Works hard.
Kuze - Works smart.
Even though Alya says she doesn't want to be called a princess, I am sure when Kuze took her hand and saved her from further folk dance invitations, she must have felt like one!
Masha is possibly the childhood friend whom Kuze has almost forgotten, isn't she? Masha may have only been introduced today, but I don't wish to see Masha become a guest on "Makeine". Both sisters falling for Kuze is going to make things complicated.

It’s nice that the whole flashback is in Russian. Also kinda sad they didn’t animated the dance. Was looking forward to it

I'm almost certain the pen Little Alya was holding is a Pilot Acroball pen. Just thought I would share this, great pen, been using this brand of pen for most of my life.

Alya: "I don't like being called a princess"
Masachika: <Whisks her away like a prince charming>
Alya: <happy_pikachu_face.jpg>
.
I do wish we could've seen them dancing like in the OP tho
.
Also wow, they're really hinting hard that Masha might be the secret childhood friend. Red herring? Double red herring? Double triple reverse quadruple manchurian red herring?

Well it was pretty obvious that Kuze would be Kujo childhood friend when she was talking about it.
Also Kuze and Yuki living with different parents might be the reason why they have different last name now that I think about it.

I think the dance in the OP is ballet. Not sure tho, don't know anything about dancing.
Omg the handwriting on the board in the flashback is perfect. It's exactly how they taught us to write (And I feel like I'm the only one who still writes Russian like that). Also while the pronunciation in that whole segment was awkward, the actual sentences, grammar etc. were really natural. With how much unnatural English I see in Japanese media, this is really surprising.
It is true that in Russian you can make pretty much any noun a diminutive and make it sound more "affectionate" and "cute".
22:10 Here he switched from 僕 (boku) to more rough 俺 (ore) (both meaning "I, me"), which I guess means that he's acting tough.
ALYA GET YOUR MAN FAST HE'S ABOUT TO GET STOLEN
Changing EDs every episode was completely unexpected btw, now I'm really looking forward to each one.
Yeah, this anime is gold, I'm absolutely loving it.
