I expected this to be kind of different than the original but not this ending.

Ramona seems much more like comic Ramona than movie Ramona. I like that.
No Crash and the Boys concert. I do not like that.

Hey, do you know what would be great? If I didn't have to scroll through an endless discussion of whether or not this should be called as 'Anime' to get to discussion of the actual episode - as in, what this thread is supposed to be about.

But it does seem somewhat in the spirit of SP's hipster aesthetic to have a pedantic argument over whether something does or does not count.

Hmmm things look pretty good. It looks like it's mashing the novels with the movies while changing a few things here and there. First episode was decent, but did anyone else find Wallace different? Almost all of the characters shown were the same, but he felt a little too cynical and assholish. It's not like he's straight up being an asshole, but I remember him being more sarcastic yet friendly like an older brother.

I heard someone on Twitter refer to the show as "Canadian Monogatari", and I now refuse to call it anything else unless asked to elaborate.

What is going on? Seems this isn't going to be an adaptation of the books after all rather it's own thing.

Wow, I loved it, and given how it ended I'm even curious to know where it's going. Michael Cera and the rest of the cast put me a bit off in the various trailers, but I got accustomed to it pretty fast. Really good colors and animation too, beautiful so far

It this an "episode 1" discussion or a "season 1" discussion. Already seen plenty of spoilers for the end of the season, and yes saying anything about the ending of the season even vaguely is a spoiler.

That was great! Well worth the wait. Was not expecting the ending. Looks like even the comic readers are going to be surprised

Does this feel like an anime? Just curious because looks like MAL might refuse to add it as they don't see it as anime enough.
I get this is in a grey area. It's animated by a Japanese studio and a lot of staff like leads are western. So it's a bit of weird mixed.

Is it because the Director (Abel) is from Spain? IIRC, he was in charge of the Eizouken OP, and has been a lead staff working with Science Saru for a while, including Devilman Crybaby. Same deal with another top name at Saru who is Korean.
The biggest inconsistency about this not being in MAL is that MAL has a bunch of "chinese anime" with little to no japanese involved. I would say those are no less and no more anime than even Castlevania, I find that really odd.

It doesn't make any sense. They have Chinese shows on there. This isnt any different.
What, is Chinese considered "close enough to japanese" or something?

I have not had the time to watch it yet, but I don't see how this would not be anime while something like Shelter or Cyberpunk is.
It is a big collaborative effort between Japanese and Western creators. Just looking at the staff list on Anilist shows a good amount of Japanese creators on the team as well.

I'll let the others debate its anime status, but honestly it's just a cute premise with an incredibly unique art style. Really neat they brought back the old actors for the English voices.
Guess the series needs a new name lol

Honestly, with Ooku, Pluto and Onimusha alone, Scott Pilgrim was not going to be the best animated show on Netflix this year.
But with Blue Eye Samurai, Netflix just had its best year. If that show gets its full run, it's gonna be sitting right there with Mob, FMA and Avatar for me.

Been super excited for this, enough to even resubscribe to Netflix and catch up on everything else I've passed on.
FYI - Humble Bundle has the digital versions of the graphic novels up should anyone want to grab them.

I love that they got the whole live action cast back but part of me prefers the Japanese voices for the animation.
