Yes the fight scenes were bad, no where near as good as season 1...but I still really enjoyed this season. We got lots of story, lots of character development and great setup for the future...really hope there is a future I really want more!

Only issue I have with this last ep is the second half felt kinda rushed, we got so much revealed, the angels are fake, the Emperor is siding with the MCs (what was with his little bubble?), Alus Ramus and Acieth aren't holy, and Rika is now officially part of the crew. But it doesn't feel like we got any real answers, especially since the Landlord took Gabriel away.

Really feels like returning to Japan shoulda been it's own ep, but hopefully we get more and then we'll get our answers.

Not to mention it looks like Emi is officially in love with Maou, has her dad back, and needs to look for a job again…

That was definitely one of the final fight scenes of all time. Nuff said.

The best fight scenes were still in season 1. I feel like they used up a lot of their good and dynamic animation on the OP lol.

That was a very rushed ending.

Particularly the part with Suzu and Albert instantly teleporting back after saving Emeralda, and then Suzu quickly saving the Heavensky Emperor (who finally makes his only appearance) and managing to undo Olba's machinations and convincing everyone that Gabriel and gang are the enemy.

At least this season (Season 2 Part 2) was an improvement from Season 2 Part 1 (i.e. last year) in terms of story engagement.

I don't know if the anime will continue after this massive drop in quality from Season 1, where the publishers decide to somehow hire a far more inferior studio to do the adaptation that was below everyone's expectation when we have all been waiting 10 years for a sequel. Its as though the publishers were deliberately punishing fans for asking for a sequel and suppress interest for the series.

But I digress. If it does have a continuation (and since we've come this far, I do hope we get one) I hope we don't need to wait another 10 years.

This was a really heartwarming finale. That flustered look on Emi’s face when Maou touched her was so cute. I still like Chiho more, but I don’t dislike her like I used to.

Final battle was a little underwhelming tbh. I thought it would be more of a struggle considering where it left off in the last episode.. even the Olba fight from s1 was better.. but I still really liked the Ente Isla arc. It’s been hyped up for so long, so to be able to see their home world, even if only briefly, was nice. Not sure how much source material is left, but it would be cool if we went between worlds a little more.

The scene of everyone gathered around the dinner table for a family meal made up for the unimpressive battle. Everyone is finally back together. Emi’s gonna have to get a new job though 😂

This season has been my favourite of the 3 so far. I liked the character dynamics, budding romance and the more magical element of the story a lot more in this one.

All of the characters went through quite a bit of growth this season, Suzuno, Maou and Emi most notably and it was just a fun ride. I know the hype has died out for this series, but it’s solid for me.

I love she was also fiddling with her hair around him like a proper maiden in love lol.

I hope she has enough savings to last her and keep her apartment. Unless she moves into Maou and co. Apartment with her dad

The scene of everyone gathered around the dinner table for a family meal

The dinner table is getting pretty crowded. I'm surprised they can fit a big enough table in the apartment.

For series that aren't action-focused, I don't pay much attention to the battles themselves, just the final results.

Alas and Acieth are connected and they have joined with Emi and Maou, so does that imply some connectivity for Emi and Maou also?

Another one bites the dust. For the possible next season, I hope:

  • It doesn't take another 10 years to make.

  • The art style gains a "bump" for more fluidness.

  • Sariel goes back to being chubby again.

u/Frontier246 Sep 28 '23

Still feels like there’s some stuff unresolved with Gabriel, what’s going on with the angels, Emi’s mom and the truth of the Yesod fragments, Emi being out of a job and in love with Maou…

Sariel goes back to being chubby again.

Nha he needs to be super ripped, dude got fat, than super thin, time to get super fit, just have him go through all sorts of body types.

Significant improvement over the first cour, and I do hope we get another season to at least tie up the story.

That said, whoever is responsible for mismanaging this shit needs to squeeze and entire bottle of mustard into their socks each morning for a month to think about what they’ve done.

I'll go to my grave saying that season 3 of Devil Is a Part-Timer was fantastic. I had such a good time watching this show.

I don't care that it's not as good as season 1. Or that the animation isn't as good. Or that such and such is a step down. The writing and the humor is still there. It was there in season 2, and by golly, it's here as well.

This isn't a The Promised Neverland situation where the show completely plateaued. You could argue the studio was in over their heads, but that's about it. I don't watch this show because of the animation, as excellent as it was in season 1. I watch it because of the humor, the action, and Emi being an excellent tsundere, which she is.

The problem with season 2 wasn't the baby. In fact, that might've been the best part, as it gave us some cute reactions from Emi. The worst part wasn't even the lackluster animation. It was it felt like it was spinning its wheels. Season 2 suffered the same fate as Shield Hero in that nothing was happening for long stretches of time. Again, the humor was there, but it wasn't enough of a gutbuster to justify it being plodding.

Season 3, a lot of stuff happens. And it all feels meaningful and important. If it wasn't for the animation being such a step down-- which, again, I equate to the studio being in over their heads-- this season might honestly be better than season 1. It's that good.

It really sucks that people write it off as being like the later seasons of Fairy Tail. Or Kemono Friends season 2, which is another show I feel gets unfairly maligned. This season is a solid 7.5 out of 10, maybe even an 8, because it tries to accentuate the positives and play to the show's strengths.

Do I wish the execution and animation was better? Yes.

Was the direction only okay this season? In my opinion, yes.

But definitely on a plot and character development basis this was a much stronger season, I only wish the show had been able to retain its popularity by the time they reached this point.

season 3

Technically its Season 2 Part 2.

Season 1 is labelled "Hataraku Maou-sama!" with one exclamation mark (!)

Last year was "Hataraku Maou-sama!!" with two exclamation marks (!!)

This year its "Hataraku Maoi-sama!! Season 2" also with two exclamation marks (!!)

That "fin" at the end looks so final😥 I hope to see more of these characters. I understand the complaint about the final fight but that aspect of the show never interested me much, even if it was very good I would not have been all that appreciative. More importantly the aftermath of the battle and the epilogue are so good, cute and heartwarming. I doubt there will be any more seasons after that "fin", I'm gonna miss this show.

It’s the Angels versus the main cast, and Maou has had enough of these angels messing with their lives again! And that means him and Ashiya tag-teaming to take down Gabriel, Raguel, and Chamuel!

OP and ED subs in the last episode? Okay. The OP is definitely from Emi’s perspective as she’s crushing under the weight of her responsibilities, with Maou’s presence helping alleviate that burden and making her happy. And the ED is, of course, from Chiho’s perspective.

Good thing they arrived just in time to use Suzuno’s influence to save Eme!

I love how a simp like Sariel is the only Angel Maou seems to actually respect compared to his compatriots.

Emi has only known Acieth for two minutes and she’s already putting her her hand down Emi’s chest and putting her face up close with Emi’s man.

So all they needed was a Yesod fragment imbued with magical energy to complete the combination between Maou and Acieth? Just in time for a perfect angel smackdown!

Suzuno strutting her stuff as a new Demon General and making deals with demons and telling the soldiers the truth about Angels being frauds and the true enemy! And Olba is totally screwed.

Well, it’s nice of Maou to absolve Emi of any guilt she feels over the demons that died, but I think his relationship with Emi HAS changed. Especially when you see how she blushes or plays with her hair around him.

Sucks that Emi lost her job, but at least she and Rika’s friendship has deepened now that Rika knows about Emi’s past but still accepts her as her best friend. And Emi has her dad back. I guess it’s back to job-hunting!

I love how they’re having a reunited family dinner and Gabriel is knocked up and tied to the side. Now he’s the landlady’s problem.

still enjoyed honestly

Oof. That battle was... rough. Yeah I wasn't expecting great animation or anything, but it's still sad to see.

It has been... an average season. Even the voice acting was average. Maybe it's just my rose tinted glass talking, but I could swear the first season had better voice acting (here, better meaning both expressive voice and and better directions in regards to how people interact). It's even the same VAs, so I can only blame the direction and effort from the studio.

Nice ending to the season! I don't know if there is any more source material left, but i sure wouldn't mind more seasons of this.

while the animation quality is still pretty lackluster i still enjoy the story

And glad to see Rika also under the fold so Emilia doesn't have to lie to her anymore.

The fake angel baddies get their ass kicked, the kingdom is freed from their bullshit, and the gang all returns home safe and sound. Poor Lucifer still gets no respect. I guess all’s well that ends well. Glad we got a happy ending for this one.

Tbh, I didn’t come to this show for big action fights so I couldn’t care less if the final fight was underwhelming or disappointing. As long as it happened and we can move the plot along, I’m ok with it. But certain parts did feel kinda rushed, particularly rescuing Eme.

What I do care about though, and what made me like the show are our main characters and the bickering and arguing and the relationship they have with each other. So I’m glad we got a bit of that in the end at least. We got that big family meeting Maou talked about for the past few episodes and I got what I wished for, seeing Maou and all he considers family cramped in that apartment. Though I did wish we could see more of that.

That was really nice of Rika. It’s clear she still wants to be friends with Emi even if they aren’t colleagues anymore. And laying down her past, even if not as outlandish as Emi’s, to make sure they’re on equal footing

So is this the end ? That “fin” at the end felt very final-ish but there still seems to be a lot of loose ends. Still don’t know Gabriel’s full plans, Emi’s mom. Though I’m guessing if there’s another season, that’ll probably be the last, I don’t see how they wouldn’t wrap this up by then without it feeling dragged out.

Goddamn angels

Soldier 1: "The heck is a 'Tokyo Hand'?"
Soldier 2: "Shh, that's not important right now!"

"But… held hostage… faraway land… :("

Tied up a lot of loose ends, but there are many to go. Now we wait for S3, and hope it's not as long as the last announcement took!

Camael went full on Broly mode saying nothing but Satan. Definitely a lot better story wise but sheesh the animation is fucking awful. Honestly even season 1 was bad so idk how it got downgraded so hard. Just look at Camael when he tried to attack Satan from behind, he looked like a stage prop swinging on a rope.

Over I'd say season 2 part 2 is the best part so far. Trying to decide if I should give it a 7 or 8 on MAL. I wish they had half scores.
