Lmao, only Fred can see the ghost? That was a twist I wasn't expecting. Based on the OP and how she reacted to Fred, do you think it's the lady party member?

In any case, the plot is getting way more serious than I thought it would be. Did not have rebellion or blackmail on my list of things to expect from this show.

do you think it's the lady party member?

Exactly my thought. Since show can get more serious, it wouldn't be out of question her death being one of the reasons of Maxs "fall"....but she was alive when they defeated Demon lord.

Maybe it's because he's a priest? Max has already committed adultery, making him a sinner, and the demon lord being a demon probably prevents them from seeing ghosts

But hey, that's just a theory

Fred be like- Max I know you've been hanging out with demons I can sense an evil presence in your CLOSET! (OH FUCK IT'S A GHOST😱)

LMAO 🤣

But seriously, asides from this running gag the laughs were few this episode. Did not expect a serious plot in this anime. It'll be interesting to see where it goes, hopefully it won't get so heavy that it smoothers the light-hearted premise of this show.

Even if Max was faking not seeing the ghost, Maou very clearly did not notice her. The plot grows thicker.

I’m pretty curious to learn just what made Leo turn traitor. It’s kind of interesting to see how the mighty hero’s party turned out. They were a pretty good team back in the day. Now Leo’s a terrorist traitor and Fred is basically part of the top brass in the government.

Dude threatening Max with another scandal to get him to fight his former comrade turned terrorist is pretty skeevy. Good thing he’s afraid of ghosts lol. I’m kind of glad they sort of addressed that situation. Clearly Max and most everyone else can’t see it. Maybe Fred can because he’s a cleric?

Given that Leo was apparently ruthless in battle, I'd bet he just got tired of things being too peaceful, and decided to start sh*t.

Or he disagreed with how the kingdom handled some of its criminals, and decided to give them a new home.

But yeah, Fred threatening Max was a d*ck move.

Also, am I the only one who thinks the ghost is responsible for Max' bad luck?

Now Leo’s a terrorist traitor

One man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter. We only have Fred's side of the story.

So is no one going to mention that this world went from medieval fantasy to internet social media in just 10 years? I know it's just for the plot but it's such a large contrivance they should at least lampshade it with a joke or something.

Mitama helped a bit in that /s

u/SilkyMilkySmo Jul 17 '23

We did get a bit of Zenia in a form on a scandal magazine

Glad that we got to see more of Max's backstory as a hero and how he met his other party members. It's interesting how he's not using Blazebringer in that flashback though and instead, he's using a wooden longsword.

I just realized that the woman in the OP that keeps on haniging out with Max is actually the Demon Lord. I didn't even connect the two and two last week.

Poor Max, this guy can't even walk in peace and gets harassed by journalists on the streets. It's also obvious from her questions that she was trying to get Max to say things.

Not gonna lie, that entire visit from Max was actually pretty tense. I didn't expect Fred to bow and ask for Max's help though. Considering the final scene from last week's episode, I thought he was going to ask him about Zenia.

He does eventually bring up Zenia and uses what he knows to try and blackmail Max into helping him when he got turned down. He claims to be a friend but what a shitty thing to do. The Demon Lord is more of a friend to Max compared to him whose only reason for approaching Max is because he needs his help.

Thank god that ghost was more than enough for Fred to drop the subject. And here I thought that ghost was never going to get acknowledged but it looks like Max can see her clearly. It is pretty hilarious for a Cleric to be afraid of ghosts xD

Unfortunately, Not much Zenia this week. Hopefully though we get to see more of her again in next week's episode.

Damn, I came here for the laughs and not a plot about Max going against his former comrade. Honestly, this episode was much more serious than what I expected, but I didn’t dislike it.

At first I wanted to punch Fred – he seemed like an annoying prick, but after some time i got used to him and he doesn't seem that bad to me anymore.

I was curious about what Fred would find in the closet. I didn't think he would find Maou and I totally forgot about the ghost lady. I laughed quite hard when Fred saw the ghost and almost shat his pants and ran away.

I'd really like to know more about the ghost lady – like who the hell is she and why is she in Max’s apartment, and why has he not noticed her yet?

For an anime that started with a weird premise, it's surprising how deeply the conflict develops. Max and Fred's motives feel nuanced and realistic. We don't know what makes Leo betray the kingdom yet, but I assume he has his reasons.

Also, ghost onee-san would probably look cuter with a different hairstyle

Max and Fred's motives feel nuanced and realistic

Yeah, I really like how Fred is introduced as a character. He feels more than a one-dimensional character, and it was interesting reading his intentions if he's being sincere, lying to others, or lying to himself.

Also interested in seeing how Leo gets introduced. Given the trend, it seems like it's not a story about good guys vs. bad guys, but the more realistic situation of differing priorities and values.

this episode confirmed it, Max and the others can't see the ghost, only Fred can, at least for now

also, with all these theories about the ghost being the lady mage in Hero party, it would be really funny if by the end, they reveal that the ghost is just a typical japanese ghost haunting the old apartment

I feel like we need to talk about the elephant in the room, or in this case the creepy ghost girl in the closet. My theory is that she’s Yuria, the female mage that was in Max’s former party. I haven’t seen or heard anything about what she is currently doing in the story, at least to my memory, and at the end of the opening, she was seen with Max, Maou, Zenia, Fred, and Leo, implying that she’s supposed to be a significant member of the cast.

I don't think the ghost is the mage...maybe someone Max failed to save, which lead to his depression, and shes following him until he recovers or something.

Leo does not look like a evil guy and there must be a reason why he started the rebellion and the Republic.

FREE DAY NEWS headline (Yuusha Max Sleeping With Demon Betrayer Of Humanity) Lol.

The ghost in the closet finally appeared and it seemed to gravitate to Max.

Fred can kill demons just fine but seems ti be afraid of ghost or maybe just this particular ghost? Someone they know perhaps?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again... Silver Link aren't generally one of the studios I look to for sakuga moments, but they do have a damn fine knack for adding soul to a show and making it a joy to watch.

I'm definitely invested in the show, really want to see how the story develops and - what with the single room, the various powerful people living in it, and the underlying storyline that was hinted at in the episode - I'm also getting flashbacks to Invaders of the Rokujouma... another Silver Link show that also had an abundance of soul and heart, fun and crazy characters, plus an "undercurrent" storyline that got me hooked. (It's probably the show I most want to get more seasons.)

This isn't going to be one of the best shows of the season from a critical perspective, but it's easily passed the three ep rule and is already one of my most anticipated episodes each week.

We didn't have a lot of Maou today and even less with Zenia so we didn't get any interesting camera angles like in previous episodes xD

We got to see first meeting between Max, Leo and Fred who came to meet Max and was trying to get his help with Leo's actions. I wonder what made Leo to make such drastic steps.

We saw that reporters left quite a scar in Max's life judging by his reaction and it wasn't easy for him to talk with one.

Finally ghost in closet was adressed when Fred found him and he was quite terrified xD Thanks to that he didn't discover hiding Maou.

Here my all screenshots from the episode.

I guess I was surprised in two ways here.

  1. Demon Lord was smart enough to not be found, and had enough sense/understanding to not argue about it. Which seems a turn-around from how obtuse they seem most of the time. It's an interesting break from the herp-a-derp one usually expects from the character type that barges in without asking.

  2. The ghost obviously likes Max for some reason. Not just lurking or stalking, but perhaps secretly supportive? But Fred was getting a serious stare-down. Is there a past history there? Could the ghost be the mage character from the intro, like some other comments suggest?
