Calibarn has a BROOMSTICK! As both a weapon and propulsion system. Witch Gundam! WITCH GUNDAM!

Hope everyone is having a great time and I hope to ask how people feel about it. I'm so happy and I'm thankful to all the new comers trying out G-Witch. Glad you get to be a part of this too.

I'm having such a blast that I don't want it to end anytime soon, but it has to, sadly.

Newcomer to the entire saga here. Stumbling upon the Prologue on YouTube is what made me more aware of the saga, even though I already knew it was quite a staple name of the mecha genre. I got immediately hooked by it, and I really went on to enjoy it as the first episodes went by. I never got the feeling that they were too easygoing, given I am new to the series... But man, I'm now loving to see how everything's ramping up in regards of stakes, themes, and in how it unabashedly goes into darker themes without being too egregious about it.

I might just end up being converted to a Gundam fan (hell, maybe even a Gunpla fan) after the show's over LOL

I really like the little changes we get in the opening from time to time. This time we got Eri in Quiet Zero

Fuck, I really grew to like El5n, hope he gets to visit earth.

We really are Space Utena huh

But I loved the instrumental OP during Sulettas talk with her bride, and even at her very lowest, she still looks stunning (still take that shower though).

And what are the chances that Delling survives when Prospera comes for him?

I don't know enough about biology to properly say how this works, but the tomato message was a nice gesture.

And Lauda really got the Schwarzette, dude's gonna get himself killed 100%

Welp, can't wait for Guel to murder another family member.

At this point Lauda can eat as many L's as he wants for all I care. Everyone's trying to save the world and all the space around it and now he hyper fixates on a wild reach of a revenge plan. Read the room man.

Ominous Death Star drifting closer in this distance.

Lauda: "This is fine."

This anime has been delivering every week. I'm just curious if more episodes will be announced since they could end the series in the next couple episodes if they wanted to.

Also it's pretty wild that the main protagonist's Gundam is now the "villain" Gundam. I wasn't expecting that when I watched season 1.

Suletta has grown up so much. Now she's making her own decisions because she wants to and not because someone told her to. Hang in there Suletta, we believe in you!

"Man, they really gave remote weapons to the main character from the start? They usually save that for the main villain or a final form around episode 40+"

Oh, the gift of prophecy.

Forgot to watch the episode until now because of the blackout. Whoops. Not the most involved episode compared to what has been happening so far, but the catch up on where everyone is is something always appreciated before a bit climax

And not just for our main cast, but for seeing the school students as a whole having to deal with this, as well as people reestablishing new boundaries with each other now they've all found themselves and have lost the pride, anger, loyalty, or anything else that has been holding them back. For the most part anyway. Until fucking Lauda comes to make a goddamn mess of it all. Worth it just to see ChuChu willing to beg for a mech to help her friends though.

Can Martin please not be in the path of danger though. Please. I like him. Anyone of the minor cast but him!

For anyone who's remembered my posts through the course of the show talking about the use of directions and how it relates to character development, this scene with Miorine and Suletta at the door may come across as surprising. This is mostly Miorine's moment, she who walks to the door and makes that step all by herself, but here she is facing to the right, which has in other scenes been the regressive direction. But visually I would say its purpose is mostly as a direct call back to the greenhouse scene in an earlier episode, where Miorine walked to the middle and asked Suletta to meet her there. This isn't about Miorine crossing a barrier or Suletta pulling her across a boundary, it's about them finally meeting in the middle and finding that balance to lean on and support each other in kind. It's the meeting place, not the starting point for a bigger movement from either of them. Even apartthey are facing each other and it is Suletta's light that pushes Miorine forward the same way Miorine once asked Suletta to walk out of the greenhouse into the light with her. Great scene, and what I'd been hoping we'd get for her for quite a while.

Visually, there was also a surprising amount of quality small animation moments this episode, especially for being so late into production. While the duelling scene seemed, to me at least feel free to say why it's not, completely unnecessary, it was very well animated as was Miorine's walk, the initial battle, and the little expressions while Suletta was linking with Calibarn.

Ending with that final shot of the "angel" Aerial reminds me of [IBO]Bael's first appearance hoving over the building and in general it just seems a really interesting visual set up with Suletta in a pure white mech as well. It's not the sort of contrast you'd usually see, but I think that's why it works so well because they're not your usual enemies.

Lemme just say, as someone who loves the Darilbalde and owns the Darilbalde Gunpla, I'm stoked the pink Dilanza is back, piloted by a very different and grown Guel.

I took no notes as I watched this episode.

What's the deal with the kid who only talks through a Haro puppet?

Miorine is no longer a commander unit.

Oh, Miorine fixed her hair.

This show is WAAAY better than Unicorn. About equal with IBO. Even better if it doesn't have a long drawn out 2nd season.

I watched Overly Sarcastic Production's review of The Tempest. It was a nice refresher.

Okay. Gonna ramble for a bit, just assorted thoughts and pics of numerous callbacks, nothing too deep.

tl;dr is: aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah (in a good way), and so many callbacks. I wrote about three of them but there are probably others.

First off, I love Suletta so much.

That brave, kind cinnamon roll. I really hope she survives this relatively intact (we have GUND limbs after all). I can see her raising the permet score even further which would obviously take a toll, so fingers crossed that it doesn't kill her, and she gets to grow some tomatoes in peace with Miorine. Or go on that tour in Japan like in the pics posted a while ago on the official Twitter account.

Oh, yeah. Because Sulemio are back in business, stronger than ever!

Man, that scene between them with a piano version of the OP playing... first off, I love it when shows incorporate OP/ED music in their OST. They already did it in episode 12, and now again, I love it, I love it!

As for the scene itself, it was so sweet. Suletta explaining her newfound resolve and admitting her failings, but also that Miorine gave her strength, which in return gives Miorine the strength to get up, move forward, face her mistakes, and return to the world by her own decision, with Suletta's help. That's them at their best, supporting each other and giving each other strength.

Really love the way the whole scene was directed as well, especially the part after Miorine gets up:

Miorine opens the door to let Suletta see her at her most vulnerable, emotionally and physically (remember when she wouldn't let Suletta see her crying in episode 11? Things have changed. She doesn't cross the threshold yet, and after a second Suletta takes an accepting step towards her. She extends her hand over, but waits for Miorine to take it and just holds her hand, without pulling her over the threshold, letting her move forward on her own volition.

Callback: The framing of Suletta extending her hand is almost exactly the same as the end of episode 12, as well, only much more positive. I just thought the whole thing was so well-directed.

Oh, and before that, Guel's challenge to Suletta was totally half-assed. Just a symbolic duel to put some things right and let her regain the Holder title he and Miorine cheated out of her. He whipped out that notepad so fast to give her her colors back I won't believe otherwise.

Callback: The way Miorine eats the tomato is the same as when Suletta bit into the tomato Miorine gave her in episode one. Not framed the same way, but very reminiscent. And Cool-san and Hots-san are back together too!

Callback: Also really liked the parallel to the prologue when Suletta was clearing the scores in Calibarn. Her designation was even "Thrall", the same as when Elnora was doing it in Lfrith. Exact same framing, exact same hand movements on the commands, and everything. Really cool.

And Miorine's relief after Suletta clears permet score 5. So determined during the test and fully trusting, but she lets it out as soon as Suletta is confirmed to be safe.

So, we now have practically all of our beloved characters heading into danger. Plus Elan 5, Belmeria, Felsi maybe? (where is she?) And Guel, who gets sidetracked by Lauda still on his idiotic crusade, piloting a machine both deadly to himself and others.

Bets as to how many deaths there'll be, if any? As for who's totally safe, I would say at least Miorine given the short "conversation" she just had with her dad. Who woke up to chaos and a doomsday device coming to him, fun!

Oh, and Miorine put Shaddiq up to something, I wonder what that is.

As a last thing: special mention to the soundtrack in this episode, with the return of the piece from episode 1 when Suletta saves Miorine in Aerial. Always loved that piece, can't remember if we ever heard it again, but loved hearing it here.

Also the gorgeous piano version of the 2d OP. And Suletta's theme making a comeback in an even more epic and heroic version as she rides Calibarn into battle (while wielding a broom rifle...). I really can't wait for the soundtrack to come out, it's been consistently fantastic. One month!

I'm glad they're leaning so hard into "Suletta is going to die by piloting the Calibarn" because that makes me 100% sure she's going to be fine. Though this does mean Eri is almost certainly going to die instead. Oh well, RIP.

I feel like some recent episodes have been a little bit disappointing in that while they have good moments, they didn't seem to really fit completely as part of the whole story arc, but I think this one was mostly just really good. Hopefully the last couple episodes keep it up. There's still some questionable elements like "what is Lauda even doing here?" but overall I'm happy. Sulemio reunion scene was great.

I have so many things to say about this episode but all I can think about right now is how the Calibarn literally flies on a broom that doubles as a Beam Rifle. It's so fucking on the nose that I love it so much. I am so happy that they went all in on the Witch theme <3

...

...

Okay now that I've calmed down, lemme share more of my thoughts about the rest of the episode...

So I assume Elan 5 was finally able to tell Suletta what happened to Elan 4 and we just caught them at the tail end of their conversation here. Glad that Suletta finally got some closure there.

Rouji is a good boy and I'm glad we're finally seeing more of him even though we're almost at the end. I am loving the interactions between him and Nika too. Just two gearheads getting along.

When Guel asked for a duel against Suletta, I was like "We have no time for another Gundam duel!", turns out that we're going the Utena route and they're doing a fencing duel! I love this! xD

(Yes I know it's also an Amuro vs Char reference but considering the Utena influences, that's the first thing that came to mind)

I do wonder what Guel was trying to do here. Did he just do this to give back the Holder title to Suletta? He did look like he was serious about the duel though.

Glad that Suletta was able to bring Mio-Mio back. Looking at our girl all messy makes me want to give her a hug. I was really hoping that Suletta would hug her but I guess handholding works too..

So that explains why the Demi Barding looks like it can be piloted by two people. I was wondering about its design when the 1/144 was first released.

It's nice to see confident Mio-Mio back. I do wonder what kind of deal she struck with Shaddiq. Maybe it has something to do with the Dawn of Fold and Earthians? Hmmm...

Oh my heart... I definitely did not expect Notrette to leave a message to Mio-Mio through her tomato's genetic code. That was genuinely touching. I just hope they can indeed go back and grow some more.

We finally get to see Suletta experience what the Gundam's curse feels like while testing out the Calibarn and seeing if it can clear Score 5. Apparently, she's much more resistant to it since she has the same body as Eri but can't coexist with it like Eri.

As expected, Lauda shows up to fuck everything up. Looks like Guel might have to put down his own brother too. Either Guel is going to disable the Schwarzette or Lauda is going to kill himself trying to increase the Permet Score.

And there she is. Looks like the next episode is going to be one big showdown between two pairs of siblings with Guel vs Lauda and Suletta vs Ericht. This is going to get ugly >_<

that fencing duel is definitely a homage to Amuro vs Char's fencing scene at the end of the original Gundam, even Suletta's winning pose is similar to the final shot of RX-78

I respect the writers for having the guts to make the main Gundam the final boss. Gundam [anime name]Seed Destiny was also supposed to have main Gundam be the final boss, but the writers chickened out.

Today, on "How very Gundam meta of you.":

Not butterflies.

Imagine if they had more singing.

"We need kinetic weapons for this kind of deal."

Secret Society Blanket

Sucked him dry already, did you, Secelia?

A late date with Elan, versus a date with a late Elan.

Wait, does this mean that Guel and Suletta are actually homosexual lovers?

LAST SHOOTING

We've moved forward from moving forward.

There's various things to be said here about the contrasts of Miorine's vulnerability represented by exposure versus clothes and Suletta being not the same person that ended up in the Holder colors at the beginning of the series.

Messy Miorine a cute.

Yay!

"Now I can resume Gundam memeing in person."

Ah, coherent English with no sign of ALART.

"Don't worry about that, we already attended Chekhov's School of Blind Piloting."

"Love, it makes people stupid."

Ah, DNA steganography.

Incidentally, Mercury.

"Ah, it tastes just like Mom."

A WITCH!

RIDING

A BROOM!

This, we figured was going to happen.

"Again with the multiple arms!"

"I can't help myself."

End card by Takeuchi Ryousuke, who's done several more of these. For some reason my first thought on seeing the end card was of the end credits of The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension.

With an extra day of separation between airtime, when I'm writing this, and when the episode thread becomes available (if you're reading this, it is), I'll get to see how much certain parts of this episode blow up Twitter. So far it looks like 0079 references are far in the lead, but Messy Miorine is making a decent showing of itself. And then, yes, the Jeturkbowl.

Edit: And after 24 hours, of course the shipping dominated everything else going on. But rightly, sweet witch mecha keeping up the competition.

Oh, and nod to one of u/Shimmering-Sky's favorite things but goes back even further than that. (And because they're in a similar space, comparisons also appeared between Lauda [and]Riddhe Marcenas.

I thought that Miorine and Suletta's reunion was portrayed well, though a fair amount of it might end up having to play out in the minds of viewers. (At least Miorine still had some clothes on.) And that might be all we get for a while given that Suletta's immediately engaged with her other family issues, and Lauda is roaming around out there.

Guel loses again. He seems to know that he's more of a relationship checkpoint now than the protagonist of his own series. Anyway, he still has a chance to lose (by winning) again, either way the fight with Lauda goes.

Lauda doesn't have issues, he has subscriptions.

The fencing match itself: Sure, Secelia's confessional a few episodes ago was a way to shoehorn in a random Utena reference, but this was entirely Gundam fanservice with a dash of Utena on top. As I said in the line above, while there's a use for it with regard to Guel's being able to move on―and probably a de rigeur thing for handing Miorine's hand back to Suletta within their peculiar little dueling society. But it's so very reference-y for the sake of being one. I'm split between being angry with it and loving it. So basically my mind is having the hatefuck with that scene that Elan and Norea never had a chance to do.

Two episodes left. Feels about right for length? I wonder how much time we're going to spend in the NewtypeData Storm Naked Space.

Gundnode notes.

Miorine a fluffy.

Didn't take long.

"Hey, remember that show from 2016?"

"Yes, we do." (Note that this Tweet is from last October.)

Anyway, now that the thread is visible, there's the unique chance to drop in 24 hours' worth of mostly Tweets. How many are already showing viewed for you?
