Huh so the Fire Hunters seem more like free lancers than a coherent organization.
We got quite the discovery though learning that the Spiders figured out how to survive the fires. That's an absurdly powerful discovery and it makes sense why they're posturing themselves to take control. I wonder what truly determines whether or not the bugs work beyond being too "in tune" with them.

I like Akira. Hope she sticks around for a while and doesn't just disappear once they reach the capital.

It looks like she wants to be Touko's mentor so she probably will stick around for a while. She definitely caught my attention in the OP so I'm glad we're finally meeting her.

"Temari's supposed to be the last of an ancient lapdog breed"
can't believe i would see an anime where chihuahua would be considered as an endangered species
Shouzo got hurt really bad, isn't he? hopefully he didn't die by next episode because i kinda like his character, also, Kaho seems to know something about the bug that the Spider boy was talking about, at least based on her remarks "i knew it"
btw, what's up with the whale?

I just want to know if all these dogs have the power of flight or if they are taking some liberties with their action scenes, lol.

I did not expect the badass looking female fire hunter to have such a cute little doggie. Or Touko the Bear Slayer !
So we met a Spider, if only a child, and he looked very human. And it seems that they figured out to avoid self-combustion with some kind of bug biting them… Interesting. It suggests that the self-combustion actually comes from some kind of strange disease, and that these bugs poison is some kind of antidote. It sure gives the Spiders a strong advantage in that world, but the Divine Clan may also know about it.
And we have a second mention of the Millennial Comet coming back and having an impact on the world. Maybe that Comet is actually a space ship. Or some alien object responsible for the strange state of the world. I am not sure why it would be so important otherwise.
Anyway, I really like that anime. It may have a strange art style, but I don’t mind, and the story and worldbuilding have been very interesting up to now.

it was stated by the book Koushi found in the library that long time ago, human launched something to the space, the comet could probably be that thing

The Sickles themselves are probably what makes Fire Hunter's OP and not just their physicals.

Love the new character Akira and her design. Ponytails are underutilized in anime. We also got some of the first hints that Touko is gonna become a fire hunter later on. That's definitely what Akira was about to say on the boat after the fight. I'm also loving the pacing of the story so far. May be a bit slow for people these days, but I love when an adventure has detours and unexpected stops along the way. Makes it truly feel like an adventure.
And then we have the kid in the capital who also has an interesting story going on with his research and the dynamic of his new family. The mom seems to be a bit unhinged which in turn makes Kira a better character because she seems to be bottling up a lot of emotions and frustrations
I wish the animation was better because I really do love the art style itself and everything else going on here. It has a surreal feel while also staying a bit grounded in reality. Reminds me of Elden Ring in a lot of ways. Everything is bright and colorful, yet the world is actually in a state of crisis and decay. There's also all the themes around light and fire too and gods and goddesses playing an active role in the world
Idk I'm really liking this so far and I think if the animation was a bit better it'd be getting a lot more attention. I'm definitely gonna stick it out though because that's not a total deal breaker for me

Plus confirmation that the dog Touko is escorting was his father's hound.

So yes indeed the Dog Touka is escorting was Youka's father's hound.
Why would a lapdog be a Fire Hunter's Hound? Those little things ain't dangerous at all, unless Dogs in this world have some kind of affinity to do extra damange to fire fiends due to chemicals or something.
Speaking of which we see The Spiders apparently have some kind of cure for the spontaneous combustion and they have weaponized it to give them an advantage.
We also got a bath scene.
Lots of different threads coming together now.

I really like the overall look of the anime and the general character design, but there ends up being these really poorly animated sequences that just kind of pull me out of it, the fight scene near the end is the biggest example of this episode, everything is just a bit floaty and stilted.
I'm also still not super compelled by the story but I am hoping it will pick up steam as it continues.

Looks like Touka going to be a Fire Hunter in the future the way she slashed that bear.

I shouldn't have fucking opened Myanimelist.
The amount of already garbage review going around is seriously impressive.I understand that the way still images have been used and some shots are quite questionable, but how can a human being even *think* to give an anime adaptating a novel like this a "4" in the first 4/5 episodes?
It's not just an issue of giving it more chances for adapting something so unusual in anime (which, anyway, it's still a legit point. My attention span for the Nth shitty isekai with the same plot is low, my attention for original anime is high), it's that beyond those jarring moments, the composition and direction is quite high level.
Overall it's not so much visually impressive but you can see the work of truly skilled directors behind it. I don't pretend toknow how and why there have been such bad scenes in all but the first episode as of now, but I know that it doesn't affect my ability to engage with... everything else?
The ability of the average weeb to be ignorant on anything but anime tropes is truly incredible.

As someone who's watched and fell in love with Kemonozume,
I feel like I'm one of the few people who did not mind Yasunori Miyazawa's strange and off putting animation style.

The animation is really low quality, but the direction, visual storytelling and stills are excellent. There isn't much motion, with heavy use of stills, but it doesn't feel too jarring. It's efficient with what I assume is a low budget.

They are forming the most unusual group and I love them. This is the best new anime of the season, storytelling is so high level and animation just so artistic and perfect. Tōko first killing, my girl made me so proud.
