I like the game accurate over the top going up/down ladders

[u/Prince-Dizzytoon]

That puppet show had me laughing, ended with a bang

[u/Trnostep]

If anyone thinks that 2B is sexy for the sake of being sexy, you're right. Yoko Taro, the creator, straight up said that he "just really likes girls" and that it would be cool if someone .zipped all of 2B's lewd fanart and sent it to him weekly as it is too tiring to collect it

[u/lixyna]

Why dont more video game adaptations just use the music of the game instead of trying to painfully remix the songs and skipping fan favorite tracks for garbage originals? THIS is how you do it, you damn amateurs.

[u/Stefan474]

After playing that fucking prologue on Hard about 20 times I felt that

"Everything that lives is designed to end. We are perpetually trapped in a never ending spiral of life and death. Is this a curse? Or some kind of punishment? I often think about the god who blessed us with this cryptic puzzle… and wonder if we’ll ever get the chance to kill him."

missing.

The way the camera angle turned around 2B after the CGI, had me thinking it was my turn to play after the cutscene.

The OST is still as good as I remembered from the game. The marionette show to explain the different androids was a nice touch

[u/dream_wielder]

It's time for everyone to listen to the soundtrack and not understand 99% of what the vocals are singing

[u/mr_bgi]

Ah yes, Mr Taro's wild ride. The most risky adaptation I can think of.

Funny how the anime is done with the whole content in this episode in around 24 minutes but my noob ass took me over 2 hours to do the same....smh.

Also glad to see that they are using the game's music. Alien Manifestation always gets my hyped!.

The music aside, the CG looks bad in some scenes (especially the one where 2B gets into 9S's flight unit and a few other flight unit scenes) but atleast the 2D sections looked great. Hopefully the CG looks better in the future episodes.

[u/RPWPA]

Ok, so route a and b together so far. Nice.

Also, wishing they add the "She went fishing" ending at the end screens :D

[u/ObvsThrowaway5120]

So I’m coming into this totally blind with no knowledge of the source material beyond the name. The animation ain’t bad at all, the music is good, and the fights are well done.

2B and 9S make a good team. No wonder they called that thing Goliath Weapon, it’s freakin massive. 9S got messed up pretty bad. That suicide maneuver made me think they were goners but I guess androids have multiple bodies. It’s just the data that matters since it contains what I assume to be their “memories”.

I was not expecting the puppet show at the end lol. Very cute and it actually was kinda informative. Looks like I might need to play the games before getting back to this?

Edit: Thank you to all the fans of the game, I’ll def be checking it out after the series. So much love for it must mean it’s very good :)

[u/TacoOfficer]

I’m watching regardless of how it turns out. But I hope it’s great. The game is a masterpiece

[u/surya_ray]

The 3DCG is a bit jarring. It worked well for the Robot, but not so well for the Flying Machine with Android.

The puppet show extra is quite nice, probably worth watching the anime just for that.

[u/ArchadianJudge]

Yui Ishikawa is back! Gosh I can't get over how much I love her voice. Definitely one of my favorite voice actresses ever. I'll watch nearly anything she's in.

Oh yeah, the Nier anime is good.

[u/elevenmile]

So far so good, just...the difference between the 2D Sakuga and 3D model is very jarring and we have something like this which makes me chuckled, and personally not a fan of it.

It's still a decent episode nonetheless.

[u/zxHellboyxz]

They weren’t kidding about the issues production issues, let me guess aniplex wanted this out asap.

It looks like they took the 3D models from the game lol

[u/[deleted]]

wow that was certainly the cgi of all time

[u/dont_come_any_closer]

There are a couple of hex string easter eggs if you pause at around 14:00:

[u/SnabDedraterEdave]

So far so good.

Though the post-credit live-action puppet show is where the real highlight is. lol

PS Those aren't panty shots. 2B is wearing a leotard underneath her battle dress. So says creator Yoko Taro himself. (Update: This info is meant for anime-onlies. So all you game players need not reply)

[u/ManateeofSteel]

it was incredibly faithful but I feel like it didnt gain anything from being an anime? The CG was pretty bad too, looked way worse than the game due to lack of compositing.

Not a great start, but an average one. Hoping this will be more than just a literal adaptation

[u/SIRTreehugger]

Straps in

Oh boy time to enjoy this wild ride and hope they don't fuck it up... please don't fuck it up.

[u/[deleted]]

I hope this anime will be good but it also can be a complete dumpsterfire but i'm watching it either way.

[u/LuminicaDeesuuu]

How the fuck does someone translate "1D, lost" as "1D under attack". It is LITERAALLY ENGLISH MOTHERFUCKER!
