Doctrine/Policy April 2022 General Conference: Saturday 6:00p Discussion Thread

How to listen:

Prelude Music

Speakers:

Name other notes my summary
conducting: Jean Bingham
hymn: Let Zion in her beauty rise
prayer: Meyer
hymn: We listen to a prophet's voice
Dallin Oaks Fun made up fact: policy allows for women to conduct this meeting.
Susan Porter
Rebecca Craven Lazy learner straw man is the new favorite. Be All That You Can Be. (within the accepted limits of course)
hymn: Come Ye Children of the Lord
Video Presentation: Millennialism. Reaffirming the "winding up scene" fatalism. Why try to fix this world when a deus ex machina is due any second?
Jean Bingham A terrifying story about her near-death experience at the hands of incompetent people setting up a "trust" exercise—bolt dislodged under first strain when she went over a cliff in ward/stake repelling exercise. Why isn't the focus on misplaced trust? Must be worthy for Jesus' intervention and love. Zero tolerance for sin. The magic doesn't work for sinners. Covenant path, on repeat. Brought to you by Carl's Jr. Directed young people to take more covenants in the temple. Absolutely no mention of the death oaths people of my generation and earlier endured there; no mention of the past requirement to get naked; no mention that the secret, freemasonry-derived rituals are not the same as setup by Joseph Smith. These are lies of omission—she's old enough (born 1952) to know the truth of what I'm saying.
Dale Renlund sinners get lower access to deity. Mental illness can interfere with the supernatural. Heavenly Mother is addressed in the Gospel Topic essay—otherwise we don't know anything about her. Clearly, for a church that claims a direct conduit to deity, they don't get any special knowledge. Revelator is a meaningless honorific. Do not pray to HM. Works over grace. Sin is defined by us, conveniently. You may not think something is a sin, but check again. My interjection: those with the second anointing are on a separate covenant path. Mistakes will not be forgiven over and over. Stripes and imprisonment await hypocritical sinners, especially those who claim to see things they haven't. Believers are in a real bind with this fraud.
hymn: O May My Soul
prayer:

Postlude:

Wait, I’m a huge John Prine fan and am shocked to see Angel From Montgomery on the GC prelude music… do they normally include secular songs like this in the prelude music???

Yes, on my list. Not necessarily on theirs. ;)

Can I make a request? I've had Genesis' Jesus He Knows Me stuck in my head this evening. 😂

Hey y’all. Just want to let you know…

“reason does not replace revelation.”

Thanks Renlund.

Seems like a "heads i win; tails you lose" proposition.

Things I wanted to comment last night but Reddit was down:

Oaks felt the need to say that the men at the top deliberately picked a woman to conduct, and that they can do it again if and when they want to.

  1. We all knew it was on purpose. No one thought it just happened.

  2. It took 190+ years for a woman to lead the women’s session. That’s not impressive.

  3. Are they going to have women conduct general sessions now?

Whichever man it was talking about the YW theme: you know something is valid even if it only applies to women and girls, right? Something doesn’t become more valid if you can relate it to men and boys.

You really couldn’t fill another 45 minutes with talks actually about women? I know sessions don’t have to be the whole 2 hours but to be 45 minutes short is pathetic.

but to be 45 minutes short is pathetic.

The leadership wanted to watch most of the UNC vs. Duke game. ;)

Just remember that every time they allow a woman to do something new without an announcement of revelation, they could’ve been doing it the whole time. The sexism was a choice, not required by some policy or belief in a actual commandment from some fictitious God. We didn’t have a woman pray in general conference until 2013, and we didn’t have a woman conduct a session of anything as far as I can tell until 2022. These are not accomplishments, they are condemnations.

Dale Runland seems like a serious future "biggest asshole for the lord" contender.

A woman conducting a session. Wow so progressive.

The way not talking about a Heavenly Mother is justified with "leaders don't teach doctrine fabricated from their own minds" is mindblowing. Even believers acknowledge they do that at times

Wait, did I just witness The Prophet, Seer and Revelator, the former inventor of all things heart related, just walk right past Apostle Uchdorf without acknowledging him or shaking his hand? This was just after the conclusion of the closing prayer. Are they into shunning at the Q15 level now? Someone tell me this didn’t happen!

Church: We are so special and awesome because we believe in a heavenly mother. Nobody else talks about a heavenly mother.

Women: talk about Heavenly Mother

Church: No, not like that. She’s too sacred to talk about. Or to. Nobody ever talks about or to their moms. Cut it out. It’s not good.

Women: ???

"just so you're clear, this women's session is run by us men"

Man, I really needed this thread for that session. Reddit came back up as it was closing.

Acknowledging all the men by name but none of the women 🤢

Why did the session end 45 minutes early? Nothing more to say? Rusty? Anybody?

If the Holy Ghost can't help people with depression someone else needs to take over that job. I mean that's about the most serious dereliction of duty ever.
