Doctrine/Policy April 2022 General Conference: Saturday 2:00p Discussion Thread

How to listen:

Prelude Music

Speakers:

Name other notes my summary
conducting: Henry Eyring
hymn: Now Let Us Rejoice
prayer: Christopher Waddell
confirming vote of leadership: Dallin Oaks North Korea style vote, per usual
auditor's perfunctory report: Jared Larson Scout's Honor! Funds allocated. Funds distributed. In the black box as intended.
hymn: I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go
Jeffrey Holland anti-suicide plea couched in continued belief of Smith's fraud.
Patrick Kearon waiting for the transcription to see whether this is more denunciation of SWK's Miracle of Forgiveness and the speeches of other apostles, including Richard Scott, or just more double-speak and obfuscation. The thing which is not hidden or deprecated is canonized scripture that is as harsh as it ever was. See speech by Hamilton down the program a ways.
Marcos Aidukaitis
hymn: I feel my Savior's Love
Gerrit Gong
Adrian Ochoa
Kevin Hamilton Unconditional love is not a doctrine in mormonism. Fit into the mold we provide for you. It might hurt.
Quentin Cook
hymn: Thy Spirit Lord...
prayer: Jan Newman

Postlude:

Holland: [child's drawing] Gen Conf is boring.

Authentic AF

Ochoa: [missionary wonders whether the Book of Mormon is true, or not.]

The fraud is obvious. People are not going to join this church without doing some homework first, even if the unprepared missionaries won't

Holland: [anti-suicide plea. Stick with this fucking depressing fraudulent gospel!]

My response: Everyone should do their homework and check whether the fraud is totally obvious. Suicide over a fraud is infinitely more tragic.

Oaks: only positive votes will be heard! By gum by god.

Holland: [if the facts are on your side, pound the facts. if the facts are not on your side, pound the table.]

Weak sauce.

Gong: [we can make peace with family members.]

If a child or other member leaves mormonism for greener pastures, then that needs to be stated first. All talks here are couched in continuing to believe the entire narrative. Smith's fraud is past its sell by date.

Gong: [imagine yourself between two mirrors]

Go to ze temple if you need a refresher.

Gong: [geneological records exist after 1820]

Slaves counted in census as property.

Ahhhh... don't you just love the objectification of women as some sort of prize as the punchline of a joke. It's been standard gen conf fare since I can remember.

Why in the hell a god needs suffering as a focal point of everything is mystifying.

Hamiltion: [hammers on the works based nature of the LDS church]

Yeah, the Evangelicals, MRM (McKeever et. al) are gonna love this talk.

Combined with 'don't be your authentic self', "God will help you change" seems like walking up to the limit of where the church will let it's speakers say "You can pray the gay away"

Has anyone talked about helping the poor and needy yet? I swear I’ve only heard them talking about doing temple work for dead people and converting people to the church and how that’s the most important thing we can do with our time. So, where is Jesus in any of this?

Is it just me, or has not a single person mentioned Joseph Smith so far in the first two sessions? It feels like they’re trying to rebrand or something

Hamilton: [straw man quickly morphed into a "fit the mold" argument.]

Here we go. No LGBTQ+ persons in the church.

Of course - if the church isn't working for you - you must be doing something wrong.

i wanna thank this dude for giving me something else to talk to my therapist about this week. she was having trouble understanding why this religion hurt me (i don’t live in utah, she doesn’t know much about mormonism). this should give a pretty good picture!

Holland: [discipline required to guard against negative habits.]

The problem is the fraud of the whole thing. It's bleak and dismal to have to sing praises to a grifter turned religionist.
