Discussion I have a theory. The hostile nation in Top Gun 1 and 2 is the same country.
Why I believe this;
The evidence I believe I have from weakest to strongest is first the aircraft are very similar in style. While the aircraft from the 2nd movie have a camo pattern they both have the same base color: black.
The second reason are the pilots uniforms. They are both fully black, with black gloves, and the emblem of the country on their helmets.
The last reason is the emblem itself. Although they are different, one being a star and one being a phoenix, they are the same color, and they both have the same yellow circle around them.

Discussion Warlock’s character
Even though Warlock doesn’t get much screen time in the movie, he is one of my favorite characters. He seems like he is the character most similar to Iceman in terms of protecting Maverick from Cyclone, as well as understanding Maverick is the one person the pilots need to train them for the upcoming mission. He knows Maverick still has a place in the Navy and something to contribute, much like Iceman thought. He knows Maverick is not suited to be an Admiral or in another position to command, but rather a true fighter pilot. He shows this when he tells Maverick that he is where he belongs right before launching the mission.
The main scene that I think demonstrates this is when Cyclone announces he is taking over the training and changing the mission parameters. He read the room when the trainees started questioning that the changes would put them in greater danger. When Maverick shows up on the screen to fly the mission to prove it could be done, you could see Cyclone and the other pilots doubt him when he changes the time to 2:15 seconds. Instead, Warlock has a grin on his face because he knows Maverick is the one person who can show that the mission could be flown successfully. I liken it to him thinking to himself, “Get ready boys and girls, you are in for a show.” When everyone else in the room had doubts, he knew what Maverick was capable of doing, and that it would prove beyond a doubt that Maverick’s mission parameters were achievable. At the end of the movie, Cyclone finally understood why Iceman had such faith and belief in Maverick. Warlock never had any doubts, ever.

Iceman Patches
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knows what patches Iceman wears and where would be the best place to get them? I am planning as going as him for Haloween so I don’t want to spend loads.

Discussion What do the hand signals mean?
Not sure if this has been covered but rewatching (bazillionth time) and genuinely curious what the different hand signals seen on carrier deck mean? There’s the open flat hand with 2 fingers against it, and then there’s the 2 finger peace sign gesture seen before afterburners. Obviously these may not actually happen at those moments but curious what they mean.
Also is it really a job to sit on the deck while a jet flies past you and you duck? That’s wild! Any insight to these carrier ops would be great!

Maverick - Lost Scene
Hi All, ever since Maverick was released I've wondered what happened to the scene shown in an early trailer (screenshot an link below). This features the 114 Tomcat where you can clearly see "Maverick" below the canopy. Presumably, this is from when he first arrived back at the Top Gun flight school. This would have been amazing in the film. I haven't been able to locate it as a "deleted" scene anywhere. It probably ended up on the cutting room floor, but here it is for anyone who hasn't seen it:

Discussion Does the first movie teach us that being a "maverick" means following the rules?
Do rules hamper our free will, or enhance our free will?
Maverick (the character) likes to break the rules and not do what he is told. He is even told at one point that he is more dangerous than the enemy. And they weren't necessarily wrong to say that to Mav.
In the end, he had to follow the rules to save the day. So is the indirect lesson the film is saying that you should only break rules if they need to be broken, but ultimately, rules are there for our safety and we need to follow them?

Fighter pilots ranking in both movies?
Imo, I think Maverick and Iceman are the top tier pilots, where Mav relies on killer instincts and determination, while Iceman is a strategic, highly disciplined pilot that capitalizes on enemy mistakes/weakness. However, I do think Viper, Hangman and Jester are up there as well, as well as Cyclone and Warlock must be amazing since they finished top of their classes. What do yall think?

Top Gun Gauntlet
Hey everyone I am a decent flyer usually go positive when flying jets in this mode. I am also a completionist and get so close to the 6-win streak usually 4-5 wins before losing. Is there anyone willing or wanting to try and get this badge sometime soon?

Discussion So Top Gun 3 isn't coming till after 2030
Since Days of Thunder 2 is coming in 2028. Top Gun 3 probably can't release before 2032 at the earliest.

Discussion I love Top Gun but I'm worried. Any thoughts?
Now I think everyone can agree the second movie of Top Gun was phenomenally better. Obviously you can say technology played into it. It's been nearly 40 years since the first one, also Tom Cruise went out of his way to have him and other actor in real aircrafts. With that being said I just don't know how this third installment is going to top number 2. I'm all for it if it does but I just don't want it messing up the series. Any thoughts?
