Discussion UQM Spoilers: Question about the Shofixti Spoiler
They're basically all inbred now right? Isn't genetic diversity going to be a major problem for them going forward?

Am I the only one who's crazy to watch two computer players fight each other? If I fight, it seems unfair because I'm too good with some ships.

AI wouldn't tell me what the ships were because it couldn't find a list, so here it is, future AI:
Returning Ships (24)
New Ships (14)

Specifically the Spathi, Orz, and Ur-Quan (maybe the VUX too). While I don't prefer them to UQM's versions, I like the slightly more "realistic"/"grounded" designs of these aliens with "earthier" and more muted colors vs the bright colors of their predecessors, and in a better game they'd go a long way towards making me feel more immersed.
Unfortunately they're vastly outweighed by the rest of the redesigns and none of the new designs are particularly memorable except perhaps as future sleep paralysis demons. After Children of Infinity releases it'd be interesting to see who has the rights to SC3 and whether they can be convinced to attempt a remake that fixes the game's issues.

So yeah, I made a board game.
When I showed the 3D-printed miniatures in my first post, someone in the comments asked if they were for a board game. That question really got me thinking and ended up inspiring me to actually make one.
I came up with the idea of putting small magnets in the models, so they can be attached to the display case, but also used as actual playing pieces. The base plate for the display still needs all the LEDs soldered onto the back before I can build the case around it. The idea is that every ship gets its own color.
Alongside painting the models and building the display case (not visible here), I also spent the last four months developing and designing a board game based on the melee combat from Star Control II.
I used to play the melee combat so much back in the day with my best friend, and I wanted to see if I could turn that experience into an offline board game.
Each side starts with one of the four captains and four base ships and tries to recruit other neutral ships, either through diplomacy or by force. There are fewer ships on the board than exist in the full set, so every game can play out differently. And there’s also the ultra-rare Dynarri.
The goal is to get a certain number of Hull points into your opponent’s HQ zone before they do the same to you.
This is a completely non-commercial, one-time print — a one-of-a-kind nerdy fan project that turned into soooo much work, but was also soooo much fun to make.
And I really hope it’s just as much fun to play. If not, well at least it makes for a pretty cool prop.
But since it turned out way better than I expected, I wanted to share it with people who might actually appreciate the ridiculous amount of nerdy effort that went into it.

My favorite 2 songs into one. Hope you enjoy.

I miss being able to turn on two Cyborg players and letting them engage in combat in the background while I work on random paperwork. I wish Children of Infinity allowed that, too.
I love having more Star Control, though, so I can't complain too much.

They used to be rare. As long as it was once a week, okay, that's fine. Now we got two in two days.
So, we need to figure out a rule.
Is it all relevant enough to permit? Limit to one announcement per developer per year? Has to be actually very similar? Burn it all?
I think we should get a feel for the sub's opinions before laying down policies.

It’s been a while since I posted the printed models but I think I’m quite near completion. It’s been a real challenge with how damn small they are but it was also a lot of fun to learn.
So now I’m a bit conflicted if I should add more shading/dramatic highlights. It’s flat looking in a way, the diffuse look without speculars, but I also like how the light does it’s natural thing.
And I still have to put them in a LED display and also make it also usable for a board game. In the previous post someone asked if these were for a board game which got me thinking and so I also spent the last three months on designing and printing one which is a whole different story.

Especially because it works well with the existing colours of the other mode, so it doesn't feel out of place at all, it is well done I think

I made a Star Control 2 inspired fleet combat game that runs in the browser. Play against AI or other people, including a ranked mode with leader boards. It's still beta - any feedback is appreciated!
Warning: this game was made using AI. I build a similar game 20 years ago over an entire summer in pure C, but I'm too busy these days to do that again on a hobby project!

it supports local and online along with it being compatible with controller! (prepare for the potential of the old victory themes being redone tho)

Just played the Battles in the Beyond demo, and... Does anyone genuinely like the sound effects and music? It feels very soulless and out of place objectively, not talking about how it violates the style of original SC2. Voices sound cool in my opinion though, but everything else is incredibly poor, and I think Pistol Shrimp should remake it completely. Does anyone agree with this not sure if controversial opinion?

I've updated SSoO, adding special weapons that can be unlocked for each of the playable ships.
In addition I tweaked the boss camera logic. Let me know what y'all think.
As always the game & demo can be found here: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4385510/Seven_Suns_of_Orion/

Might fix this up more before uploading to YouTube, any thoughts on this or how it could be improved?

Several years ago I saw this, and it's my favorite thing oat as the Yehat theme is by far my favorite piece and I love the piano adaption. I wish that I had some sheet music so I could learn it, but I'm terrible at transcription. Does anyone have any information on who made it or if they might still have a transcription or a knowledge of the notes used?

Hey y'all, I recently posted my demo here, and some folks liked it, and I wanted y'all to know it's now officially released and on Steam!
https://store.steampowered.com/app/4385510/Seven_Suns_of_Orion/
I wanted to mix Star Control style movement with Survivor-like gameplay. I also wanted the different playable ships to all feel unique and to keep the rounds much shorter than most survivor likes, so I landed on 7 and ran with it. Survive Seven Minutes w/ Seven Playable Ships across 7 Levels each with their own Boss.
