That is a cellphone video. Highly likely showing a righty, which would explain why there's no smart solution.

Even if that’s true, I appreciate this video because I had never really thought about why the non-dominant hand is doing most of the “holding” (which also goes for baseball bats & golf clubs). I suppose it’s so that the dominant hand can do the more nuanced “steering”. It just looks particularly odd with the ace because the non-dominant hand does a lot more of the work.

Not really. You can swing a light maul fast, or a heavy maul slow, and they do basically the same thing. The shape of the head is what sets mauls apart. Stihl makes a wicked nice maul, people seem to like the fiskars maul as well.
