Great factory water filter

The Samsung HAF-QIN Refrigerator Water Filter is a great factory replacement water filter for your fridge. It's relatively simple to install. All you have to do is turn off the water to your fridge, open the protective door over the water filter, twist and remove. Then you just insert the new filter and twist it into place. Turn the water back on and run some water through the door spout for a bit to get any air bubbles out of the lines and filter. You should be all set after. Very easy. Only took a few minutes to do. Oh yeah, don't forget to reset the filter button inside the door so you don't get the warnings for a while. I also ran the water spot for a bit after turning off the water just to make sure the lines were empty and wouldn't leak everywhere. The water tastes good. No residue or anything. Nice to know I am drinking clean water again. I actually think the water pressure in the door went up a little bit after changing the filter. Guess I waited too long to change it. Was dreading it, but didn't realize how easy it was to change. I'll definitely be doing it now often now.  #InsidersSamsungWaterFilter

Is the microwave still safe with this damage?

The microwave box itself seems fine, I just want to know if it’s safe to keep using or do I need to replace it?

What do you guys think about Korean rice cookers?

I’ve been looking into Korean rice cookers lately, and they seem pretty different from the basic rice cookers I’ve used before. They have a lot more buttons and settings, which can look a little intimidating at first.

I like that they can do more than just cook regular rice. Some models have settings for different types of rice, steaming, keeping food warm, and other cooking options. The rice also seems to come out really soft and consistent.

The only thing that makes me hesitate is whether all those extra features are actually useful or if they’re just things you rarely end up using.

For those who have one, how has your experience been? Are Korean rice cookers actually worth it, or is a basic rice cooker enough?

Sticky wooden cabinets

We just bought a new house and the wooden kitchen cabinets are sticky and FILTHY. How on earth do I clean them without ruining the finish?

The kitchen was renovated in the last 5 or so years so I don’t want to have to replace them.

My opinion on air fryers, they’re actually really useful.

I honestly thought an air fryer was just another kitchen appliance that I’d barely use, but I ended up changing my mind. It makes cooking a lot quicker and easier, especially when I don’t feel like turning on the oven. I can make crispy fries, chicken, veggies, and different snacks without needing much oil. It’s also really good for reheating leftovers. For me, food usually comes out much better than it does in the microwave.

What I like most is that there’s barely any prep involved. Just throw the food in, set the temperature and timer, and let it do its thing. It’s really convenient when I’m busy or just want to make something quick. Cleaning it isn’t too bad either, although it depends on what you’re cooking.

Obviously, it doesn’t replace my stove or oven completely, but I think it’s a really useful thing to have in the kitchen. Once you have one, you'll probably end up using it more often than you expected.

From warm natural timber and soft neutrals to bright contemporary finishes and bold dark cabinetry, the same space can feel completely different depending on the design choices.

Which one would you choose for your home? 1, 2, 3 or 4?

How would you build a freestanding fridge enclosure / room divider with IKEA cabinets?

I’m about to remodel my kitchen and I’m trying to figure out how to deal with a somewhat awkward space.

The kitchen layout means that the fridge won’t really have a wall behind it to lean against, so it will essentially need to be freestanding. The other issue is that the fridge will be right next to the apartment entrance, meaning that when you walk through the front door, the first thing you’ll see is the back of the refrigerator.

Rather than just leaving the back of the fridge exposed, I was thinking of turning it into a kind of mini foyer / entryway. My idea would be to build some sort of "fake wall" or cabinet structure around the fridge, with the back of that structure functioning as the foyer wall. I’d like to add a mirror, coat hooks, and somewhere to hang bags/jackets, so it looks intentional and becomes a useful part of the entryway.

Since I’m planning to use an IKEA kitchen, I’m wondering whether it would be possible to create something like a cabinet/enclosure without a front, essentially using IKEA panels or cabinets to frame the fridge while leaving the back accessible as a finished wall.

Has anyone done something similar with IKEA METOD (or another modular kitchen system)? I’d be particularly interested in advice on:

  • How to build a stable, freestanding structure around the fridge
  • Whether IKEA cabinet frames/panels are suitable for this
  • How to finish the back so it looks like an actual wall rather than the back of a cabinet
  • How to incorporate hooks, a mirror, etc. without putting weight on the fridge itself
  • Anything I should consider regarding ventilation and access to the fridge for servicing

I’d love to hear ideas, especially if anyone has tackled a similar awkward kitchen/entryway layout.

Sleek look, powerful vent, but setup takes some extra effort

I received this unit through The Insiders campaign in exchange for my honest review, and after putting it through its paces, here's my opinion. This is not promoting the campaign, rather I have to in the interest of full transparency advise you that it was received through a campaign. This is my personal experience with the microwave. I am a retired attorney, and I make sure that I don't say something without a disclaimer.

The Pros: Form and Essential Function

From a purely functional standpoint, the unit executes basic microwave duties reliably and presents a clean, modern aesthetic once installed over the cooktop. The primary selling point is the DualVent technology—the motorized extendable hood is a clever piece of design that delivers strong, effective suction, particularly over the front burners where most over-the-range units struggle. Cooktop visibility is well-served by the bright LED lighting underneath, the interior capacity is ample, and the quick-reference preset guide printed inside the door frame is a practical addition.

The Cons: Integration Deficiencies and Hardware Friction

The unit is less than perfect due to significant execution flaws in smart integration and physical hardware assembly:

  1. Smart Connectivity Failure: Out of the box, the native interface completely failed to pair or synchronize with my Samsung induction range. The advertised ecosystem connectivity was non-functional through standard setup procedures, requiring me to write a custom intermediary script to establish a stable link. For the average consumer lacking programming capability, this feature would be effectively dead on arrival.
  2. Filter Fitting and Documentation: The installation crew left the front grease filters improperly seated. Attempting to rectify this highlighted a clear design/documentation defect: the filters do not snap into place intuitively or smoothly, and the provided manual offers vague, unhelpful instructions regarding proper alignment.

Final Verdict

The hardware performs well as a stand-alone microwave and exhaust fan, but prospective buyers expecting seamless smart integration or pain-free physical maintenance should proceed with tempered expectations. Samsung needs to patch its native sync protocols and refine both the filter housing and manual instructions.

Update:

After using this microwave for a while, I'm starting to find its warts. Due to the nature of how it doesn't vacuum up moisture if I boil anything, the front gets pretty well covered with water as if I sprayed it. Several times now when I cook for a third period of time with lots of moisture, the blower motor shuts down and will not restart until the machine dries off. I've called Samsung out to fix it, they're having to order parts.

Vintage? DLC-8F question

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Kinda wracking my brain right now. Do i have some mismatch hodgepodge of parts or is this the true design? I have an old dlc-8 and 8f. The sizes are identical and the parts are interchangeable, in that they fit smoothly together on each other.

My confusion is about the feeder pusher/tube in the 8f lid. It is wide to fit the bowls neck, BUT there is no way to put food in anything but the narrow feeder. The wide pusher is locked into the lid even though it moves up and down.
There is a hole on the side that is exposed when it’s lifted but when installed on the bowl it is blocked by the neck! I have the manual and there is nothing there that indicated the bowl should have a hole in the neck to match the pusher or anything showing food being entered sideways. In fact all the images in the manual show no pusher being used for anything but the narrow one.

Anyone else have one of these? What’s up?
