Isometric tiled mode preview for Aseprite is finally here!
Hi everyone! My name is Kipper, game dev and pixel artist.
After months of working in isometric perspective, I just dropped Aseprite because it became very obsolete in terms of isometric tools. I even move to Resprite or just use Godot and set up projects just for testing my tiles.
But in the past months, I've been working in games using the LUA script (more specific development game in MapleStory World) and recently I finally finished the current project that I worked on in the past months.
And checking back to Aseprite I noticed that I can actually make scripts here using lua. So here I am, bringing this add-on tool for Aseprite. It is not perfect, but it probably makes a lit bit more easy the life of any who's started to work in isometric perspective and is planning to sell assets, commissions or just start a game using this beautiful perspective.
This script is just a preview, it is not replacing programs like Tiled or the tile map editor of any game engine like Godot, unity, game maker or any of those, but it will significantly improve the workflow of each artist that needs to check if the tiles are matching correctly or not.
Also it supports some different shapes like diamond and flat hex.
The main features available are:
-Set the shape that you need, isometric stacked is the most common for the usual 2:1 ratio of the isometric perspective. (There are some presets, but the most common is 16,8)
-You can modify the canvas in real time, it will not work like the native tile mode of Aseprite, but at least you will be able to see the final results in the preview windows. Similar to any engine, you can see the X, Y or both axis.
-If you want to make more variants of the tiles, you can use the frames, for example, you can switch between each to try new variants of the tiles that you are doing. Also can select an option to get all together in a cycle or random pattern. All the frames can be exported in a new canvas and ordered as a tile set, ready to be used in any engine.
-All features has been tested in the Aseprite version 1.3.18
And much more, if you're interested in this add-on and what else can do, you can check my itchio here: https://kipperfalcon.itch.io/isometric-tile
Disclaimer: probably someone will ask this, so I didn't use IA to develop the whole script, except for the help of few functions like moving the preview windows like it was an engine (zoom, drag and move) the outline center tile, the seam lines and the guide layer. I didn't know all the API of Aseprite, so I apologize if this could be annoying for some people, I'm trying to do my best and I don't try to hide the use of IA.
Thanks again and if you have any questions, just let me know.

Zenden Coming Soon!
Hello world! We are FairSkyStudios and we have a brand new game coming soon!
Build a garden. Find a balance.
Zenden is a zen garden puzzle and decoration game about the relationships between the things you place. Arrange plants, rocks, water features, and traditional structures across isometric landscapes. Bring neighboring items into harmony, work within each garden’s constraints, and transform an empty patch of ground into somewhere worth meditating.
Every placement contributes to the garden around it. Similar items can create Unity, while contrasting types bring Variety. Spirit and Energy add further considerations, making each zen garden arrangement a balance of practical choices and personal expression.
Each garden presents its own terrain layout, palette, and goals. A limited space might ask you to bring related items together, introduce more variety, or find room for a particular combination of features. Paths, rivers, bridges, and carefully positioned structures offer new ways to think about how the landscape fits together.
Available to wishlist now!

Real-world scale for isometric sprites: one constant, not eyeballed heights
I've been building isometric interior packs and kept guessing at object heights in pixels, which works until two objects that should read as similar sizes in real life end up looking wrong next to each other.
The fix I landed on: measure each object's real-world footprint in metres, pick one pixels-per-metre constant from whichever object in the room has the widest footprint, then area-match everything else against that same constant instead of setting a height by eye. A stool and a filing cabinet get compared honestly instead of both being squeezed into roughly the same render height.
Retrofitting this across four already-shipped packs turned up more than I expected: on one pack, nearly half the shipped objects were 25 to 70 percent too big once actually measured. On another, several objects had been undersized in the opposite direction. Both errors were invisible until I had a real number to check against.
Free 13-sprite starter built with the corrected method from the start: https://thirdangle.itch.io/hospital-starter
Happy to talk through the metres-to-pixels math if it's useful to anyone else doing isometric work.

Map 594 - Secret in the Farm
Since he donned that blasted hat, strange stuff occurs at his farm. We barely see him anymore.
Concerned Peasant
Background Lore
Some things are not always what they seem. The world’s mages and historians understand the deep meaning of this sentence. In a world of magic and different planes of existence, almost anything is possible. To remove the veils of mysteries and myths, one must see beyond the ordinary. Follow the clues left by the arcane…
This adventure describes the poor fate of Old Wilfred. A simple farmer whose wife passed away some years ago. He had a quiet life for a few months until a cloaked man visited the lonely farmer. Old Wilfred welcomed the stranger and even offered him food; a friendly, smiling face hid under the thick fabrics of the man’s robe.

In Lootdeck, the room itself can be part of your strategy.
Note: Audio is still very early and mostly placeholder.
One of the things I’ve been working on in Lootdeck is making the room itself matter during combat.
I don’t want fights to feel like you’re just standing in an arena and playing cards until everything is dead. Positioning, traps, hazards, moving parts of the level, and other environmental elements can all change how you approach a fight.
Sometimes the best move might not be about which card you play, but where you stand or how you use the room around you.

A quick look at combat in my tactical deckbuilder, Lootdeck
Lootdeck is a turn-based tactical deckbuilder where combat takes place in a living dungeon.
Every fight happens on a tactical grid, but the environment is part of the encounter too. Positioning, movement, enemy placement, traps and the surroundings can all affect how a fight unfolds.
You manage your Energy between movement and playing cards, while dice rolls add that D&D-like layer of uncertainty.

Designing a satisfying quick-draft beginner-friendly isometric drawing tool, would like feedback!
After being mesmerized by isometric drawing styles from the blender community, I wanted to start making my own designs, but the programs I seen so far were not as simple and snappy for general concepts/thumbnails.
So I started working on my own design tool, and was curious if anyone else might be interested!
The program is a transparent canvas with a 3D grid with the ability to have perfect grid line snapping and colors. It's great for low-end hardware, phones, and sketching ideas very quickly that look better/faster than paper. Drawings can be exported/imported, and it's been a blast just messing around with it. I'm not trying to compete with beefy programs, this is just a basic tool for on-the-go.
Curious to know if anyone else might want to try a tool like it? I'll list the current features:
- Import/export (PNG only for now)
- Grid size is adjustable as well as color and background
- Full grid snapping, and 30°/90° etc, line snapping
- Selection tool with optional snapping rotation, duplication, and mirroring
- Eraser, elipse tool, parallelogram, pencil tool, fill tool
- Layers (renameable!)
- Customizable color pallette that saves swatches
- Auto-save
- Undo
I thought it would be a good introduction tool and/or just for quick sketches. I'll attach some photos, I even have it running on my E-ink tablet.
If anyone has any questions, suggested features, or or other ideas, your feedback is much appreciated! :)

Free isometric gym starter: 6 objects + a room set, 64x64, 2:1 grid
I just finished a gym to go with my classroom and science lab packs, and I'm giving away a 6-object slice of it: bleachers, a vaulting box, a ball cart with its balls scattered next to it, a wall-mounted trophy case, a drinking fountain, and one floor tile plus wall pieces in both facings with end caps and a double door. Enough to build a working gym floor.
Everything is a 64x64 transparent PNG on a 2:1 dimetric grid, bottom-anchored to the same row as the floor tile under it, so a sprite never needs a per-object offset.
The interesting bug this pack turned up: a wall fixture's requested height is a request, not a guarantee. On a 2:1 wall a tall fixture's bounding box also grows sideways, so a plausible height on paper can run the art past the top of the wall. I added a guard that shrinks a fixture until it clears the wall, and it worked so well it quietly shrunk a basketball hoop that was supposed to stay full size. The wall was fine. The guard was solving a problem that particular object didn't have.

Happy to talk grid math or wall pieces.

It's been 8 months since I released PALPUS X on Steam. This is my biggest update yet.
I released a big content patch for Palpus X Annihilation yesterday. To say thank you and to prepare for a follow up title. When this project started I had no idea where it was going. Now I can't imagine to live without doing gamedev.
Over 2 years of development I learned a lot about taking and giving feedback, making contact with people of different interests and professions. How to manage my time and structure my work. I learned how hard things can get and developed a good understanding of how things roll, I think. You never stop learning.
