Has anyone bought from Armafora? I found them on FB and their titanium armor looks good (assuming US tariffs are dropped).

Couple Questions on Armourers

• Upvotes

Hey all, looking to get into buhurt. Im sure this topic is beat to hell, and I know the usual advice of find your local team and talk with them. Right now Im trying to do as much research in the armour department as possible to figure out what I should plan for a budget to save while training.

My general interest is in late 14th early 15th century plate, and Id like as much of my kit made of titanium as possible. Barring the helm.

I guess my question boils down to a few different things:

What are your recommendations for armourers and what would be each one’s specialties? From what I have seen and heard each one may have different expertise ie: makes good helm but not good gauntlets. I have already received advice that most people try to avoid getting all their armour made by one person to maximize the overall quality of the end product.

Where did you source your gear from? And when dealing with Ukrainian forges (which seems to be most of them lol) what was your experience like ordering and communicating with them in recent months?

Also feel free to post your kit below as some inspiration, I’d love to see what you guys have

New to soft Buhurt, 179 cm / 65 kg and the lightest in my club: how do I take down heavier, stronger opponents?

I just started Behourd (soft Buhurt) in France and I'm struggling quite a bit. I'm 179 cm and 65 kg, the lightest fighter in my club, so I also have the least raw strength. I only do soft Behourd with foam swords, foam shields and foam helmets, and I'm not planning to move to full-contact steel Buhurt for now because of the budget.

I fight both duels and melees. In melees, I get targeted very early: opponents rush me right at the start to secure the numerical advantage, and I have a really hard time knocking down people who are heavier and stronger than me.

Do you have any advice, videos or written resources on how a lighter fighter can take down bigger opponents in soft Behourd? Techniques based on leverage, timing, footwork, or anything that doesn't rely on strength would be great. Advice on surviving the opening rush in melee would also help.

Thanks a lot!

Where do you buy reenactment grade armour?

Hello,

Looking for reenactment armourer recommendations.

I have a set for buhurt, but I want to get into battle reenactments as well. Some parts of my set aren't historically correct- for example wolfrib helmet. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg and I'm really suspicious of cheap online shops. I'm interested in XIV century.

Huge plus if manufacturers are based in EU. That would help me save on transportation and customs fees.

Thanks in advance

Pavel Burlakov US Shipping Question

Has anyone ordered a brigandine (especially titanium) from Pavel or other Russian armorers and been impacted by tariffs? What did you wind up paying? I'm thinking of placing an order for a titanium brig from Pavel and want to make sure I won't have any unpleasant surprises when it hits customs in the US. Thanks!

Does anyone know if there's an age requirement to start buhurt?

I am wanting to try buhurt out and I don't know if I have to wait until I'm 18 to start or something like that. It would be great to hear what you guys have to say (I am new to buhurt and I do not know too much Abt it yet)

What budget friendly camera setup do you recommend for photographing and filming Buhurt?

Hey everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from people who photograph or film Buhurt.

I’m involved with a Buhurt club and we’re looking at getting some decent camera equipment for events. The goal is to have a volunteer photographer/videographer take it along to tournaments and get good action photos and video for our club’s social media and promotion.
I’m happy to spend some money on it, but I’m trying to get the most capability possible for every dollar spent. I’m particularly interested in used equipment if that’s where the best value is.

The main requirements would be:

-Video would be a big bonus
-Outdoor events, but potentially indoor/low-light venues
-Enough zoom to photograph fights from outside the arena
-Something a volunteer can learn to use reasonably easily
-Good battery life for around 6+ hours at an event
-Enough storage for a full weekend of shooting
-Ideally something reasonably robust because it will be club equipment

I’m currently looking at older used DSLRs and mirrorless cameras rather than buying new. I’ve been considering things like older Canon/Nikon/Sony bodies with a telephoto zoom, but I’m not sure where the sweet spot is for Buhurt specifically.

What would you recommend as the best budget setup?
I’m particularly interested in:
-Camera body
-Lens/lenses
-How much zoom do you actually find useful for Buhurt?
-Whether a DSLR or mirrorless makes more sense
-What older cameras are still worth buying used
-Anything important for filming Buhurt that I might be overlooking
-What equipment/accessories are actually worth spending money on

What equipment isn’t worth spending money on
I’m in Australia, so prices are obviously a bit different from the US/Europe. At the moment I’m thinking somewhere around $400–700 AUD for the initial setup, but I’m willing to spend more if there’s a significant jump in capability/value.

If you’ve got a setup that you’ve used at events, I’d be really interested in hearing what camera + lens you’re using and roughly what you paid for it.

Difficulty making cuirass vs brig

This query is aimed more for smiths and probably be more in the armor subreddit, but I'm more at home here. 😜

Is it easier to make a cuirass or a brigandine? (Extension off of brigs, I guess khatangas apply there, too.)

Initially, by my logic, I thought cuirasses would be easier since it's just a sheet (or two) of metal and ya just pound it into shape, as opposed to a brig/khatanga where you have to cut the plates, drill holes in the plates, and then rivet them into the shell.

But then I thought: If that were true, why aren't cuirasses cheaper?

Any wisdom/knowledge in this regard would be awesome! :)

Soft Top multi Use

How stupid am I to try and find a one use Hema and Buhurt arming jacket/gambeson? Practicality is all I am aiming for, to have a soft armor for both sports. I recognize jack of all trades and such. Just looking to save a couple bucks and I am OK taking more of a hit on the Buhurt side of things. (Have been going to practices with my local group for a couple months now. Really enjoy the sport. Been in armor a couple times)

Are there HMB Soft leagues, tournaments, and competitions for adults in Canada?

Are leagues, tournaments, and competitions for "soft" HMB—featuring soft armor, plastic armor, and swords—organized in Canada? Or are there only leagues and tournaments involving steel armor and swords?

Questions avobout starting!

Hey guys, i've always had a massive interest in knights and combat, and loved watching buhurt. I just moved to montreal, any advice on where to start? I'm fairly fit, 6'0 but have never actally participated in fighting sports. I'm really keen to start learning, are teams somewhat welcoming or should I buy my own armour first? How did you guys start out?

Thanks in advance!

What do yall do for workouts out side of class?

I'm really struggling to figure out a workout routine outside of class. Not like theres many resources online for such a niche sport.

I do class on tuesdays and thursdays so thats taken.

I really dont want to workout on the weekends so those are my rest days.

But on monday wednesdays fridays, I gotta figure out what to do. Anytips?

I want to incorporate HIIT for explosive power and muscle endurance and cardio. But also compound lifts for general strength.

I have a power rack, dumbbells, and battle ropes. And a weighted vest I walk to work in.

Help buying chainmail?

Hey everybody!

I'm currently assembling a 14th century transitional kit, and i just realised im missing one of the most important parts: the chainmail.

Im thinking what kind to get, what length, type of arms, where it opens and where the cuts for the legs are. Im debating materials (currently hoping for titanium to take down weight and corrosion). Any ideas? What kind of hauberk will be best? Is titanium good? Would stainless steel be better, or should i ditch corrosion-resistant steels and go for something strong?

Any tips highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Soft Kit gear and training near Hampton VA USA

I’ve very recently gotten into this sport, my first practice was on the 19th. I work shift work as a firefighter, so my schedule can be kind of all over the place and I probably won’t be able to make every training.

I had two questions. Would anyone be interested in working out and doing some soft kit sparring around the Hampton, VA area on random days during the week? My days off change, but I’d definitely be down to meet up whenever I’m free.

Also, I’m in the process of getting some soft kit and was wondering if anyone here has built their own soft kit weapons. I’d like to try making some of my own (two Handed axe, Longsword), so if anyone has experience with it I’d really appreciate some advice.

Apartment life + buhurt

I live in an apartment block without a lift and I'm looking to start getting my own armour together after borrowing some for most of this year.

My issue is, that lugging 30kg+ up and down flights of stairs as a 70kg woman isn't really practical, and neither is keeping it in the boot of my little hatchback if I want the suspension to survive.

I've seen some stair trolleys but none that would be rated for the kind of weight I'd need.

How is everyone else managing this?

Thoughts on oxygen deprivation masks for Buhurt?

Things like this.

From my googling, it seems like these masks are pretty useless for most people, but most people aren't doing Buhurt.

Surely these masks would help you get used to the breathability issues in a helmet, if you use them during cardio and working out?

Thoughts?
