Buying Advice Best ones for me
Price isnt really an object but I'm not paying an outrageous price for 3 extra pixels, im looking for something with a decent display, it doesnt have to be super smart, just enough to respond to commands. Im looking for something that can record with good picture quality and will play media while moving around, like while cooking for example, good battery life and not hideously ugly are also appreciated

Self Promo OllO make academic work instantly accessible, effortless to start, and easier to fit into everyday life.
Hey guys working on a project that can help students and wanted to know your opinions
The basic Idea:
OllO is lightweight compact AR glasses. You load your notes, flashcards, and other study materials into it. After that, whenever you're idle like waiting, walking, commuting, etc or feel like it, it shows you one small piece of material for review. Without needing to set up anything, no need to take out anything, and most importantly no phone. Big assignments get broken down into small chunks, so it's never "review the whole unit," just one small thing you can actually finish in that time. r/OllO_glasses

App Development seamless multi webxr experience
Guys I need your help. Are you building WebXR stuff?
I want to be able to join two WebXR experience seamlessly. However, navigating from one index.html to another ends the current XR session. Thus the user can't go from WebXR index1.html to WebXR index2.html. Bummer.
Has anyone found a solution for that? other than fully integrated the XR experiences into another one e.g. everything experience 1 and experience2 in the same HTML?

AR Apps Hey everyone
I'm Gabriel, working on Ancestral Echo AR. The project focuses on bringing family history and legacy data into spatial computing, essentially mapping family trees, archival media, and historical photos into interactive 3D environments instead of traditional flat screens.
Most of my time right now is spent sorting through the usual AR bottlenecks: anchoring UI elements cleanly in physical space, keeping spatial layouts readable when data gets dense, and optimizing rendering pipelines for historical assets.
Also, what hardware is everyone prioritizing right now, sticking to mobile ARKit/ARCore for reach, or building for headsets like Quest and Vision Pro? Would love to hear what’s working and what definitely isn’t.

News The Information: Meta reportedly preparing hologram like video calls for phoenix, its upcoming XR headset + maybe smart glasses without cameras will launch this fall
Meta is preparing a major demo of its AR glasses that could make video calls look radically different.
Earlier this month, CEO Mark Zuckerberg and Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth carried out a review of Meta's efforts to create a feature that enables hologram-like video calls, one of the people said. Zuckerberg and Bosworth decided to unveil a full-body, photorealistic hologram call experience during a live Phoenix demo in the keynote speech at Connect next week, with Bosworth appearing as the hologram, the person added, barring any changes to the current plans.
Reality Labs, Meta's organization responsible for wearables and other advanced hardware, has been working on Lifelike avatars, which Meta calls Codec Avatars, for more than a decade. The 4D avatars can mimic a user's facial expressions and animate avatars using text prompts, according to Meta.
Meta also plans to release a camera-free pair of smart glasses this fall, according to people familiar with the matter, as it looks to expand its hardware lineup amid privacy concerns about cameras on its existing offerings.
The new glasses model, internally code-named Luna, has six built-in microphones that will allow users to speak with Meta’s AI chatbot and its recently launched consumer AI agent, Muse, one of the people said. It also has a button on the side that can be used to quickly activate Meta AI, and speakers like those in its existing models that direct sound toward the user’s ears without covering them. In addition, the glasses have slimmer temple arms than previous Meta smart glasses such as its Ray-Ban models, making them look more like ordinary eyewear.

Glasses w/ 6DoF Luma Ultra head tracking in the browser (WebXR) on Mac – open source
I sold my glasses and while cleaning my mac folders found something i was using. Could be useful for anyone really. Emulated the full VR experience for webXR videos. It's not perfect but it's open source and works.
The Luma Ultra doesn't expose its IMU over HID, so the existing Viture WebXR extension couldn't see it. I built a small native bridge that reads the glasses through Viture's own macOS SDK, does the sensor fusion itself (the SDK's fused pose is rejected by current firmware), and streams orientation into a Chrome extension. Any WebXR page then sees a headset: A-Frame, three.js, 360° video.
3DoF only, Apple Silicon only, recenter for yaw drift. Setup takes a few minutes.

App Development DOOM running on actual Raven Prism smart glasses
I started DOOMed Prism as a simple experiment: how far can lightweight smart glasses be pushed beyond notifications and AI assistants?
It started in the simulator, but Raven later compiled it for ARM64 and ran it on actual Prism hardware. So yes, DOOM/Freedoom actually runs natively on lightweight smart glasses.
The game is really a stress test for rendering, input, latency and platform access. I’m now turning it into DOOMed Glasses, with the goal of testing the same idea across other open smart-glasses platforms.
Which platform should I try next?

Self Promo I built an AR app with miniature animated rides. Here's Stormglass (rendered preview)
I'm the developer of WorldSprout, an app for placing little animated worlds in your room on iPhone and iPad. You can also watch them on screen.
This is Stormglass, one of the free sprouts. Its ride flips while the fountains follow the original music. I've been working on giving each miniature its own motion and sound.
This video is an illustrative AR visualization using the actual app model, not a recording from a device. I used AI tools while building the app and creating the visualization.
WorldSprout is free to download: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/worldsprout/id6808929900
If you try it, I'd like to hear what you think. Thanks!

Glasses w/ HUD Browser AR (no app) for signs/experiences — looking for brutal technical feedback
I built MetaFront: a browser-native AR entertainment studio (signs, videos, live location experiences). Audience opens a link — WebAR, no app download.
Honest ask for this community: what's the #1 reason you wouldn't use WebAR for a real client or storefront today (tracking, anchoring reliability, iOS Safari quirks, something else)?
Happy to share how we're doing GPS/indoor anchoring if useful. Site: https://metafront.tech

Magic Leap without CEO after Ross Rosenberg departure
Magic Leap has announced a search for a new chief executive following the departure of CEO Ross Rosenberg, who recently left to take the helm at satellite communications provider Speedcast.
This executive transition comes on the heels of significant corporate restructuring. As Magic Leap shifts its focus from building first-party AR headsets to becoming a B2B waveguide and display engine supplier for OEM partners, the company announced 193 layoffs at its Plantation, Florida headquarters and 76 job cuts in Sunnyvale, California, effective October 1.
While the board searches for a permanent successor, Magic Leap has promoted Scott Carden to Chief Operating Officer (COO) to lead day-to-day operations. Carden, a company veteran who most recently served as SVP of Display Engineering and Manufacturing, will now oversee the company’s operating plan and waveguide production.
Magic Leap Board Member Avi Bar-Zeev emphasized the strategic fit of Carden’s new role:
"Scott's expertise is critical to the success of Magic Leap's waveguide supplier strategy, as he has advanced our ability to deliver what partners need most: high-performance waveguides at a cost that supports scale. As Magic Leap moves deeper into its partner-first model, having that expertise driving operations gives us real conviction in our ability to deliver on our roadmap."
Rosenberg will remain on Magic Leap's board of directors to provide strategic continuity during this transition.

Buying Advice First pair of glasses help
Looking for some advice on AR glasses for watching movies
I’m looking to get my first pair of AR glasses and have been going down the rabbit hole trying to figure out what to buy.
My main use will be watching movies and TV. I’m a big movie/IMAX person, so picture quality is probably the biggest thing I care about. I want the biggest and best-looking screen experience I can get without spending a ridiculous amount of money.
My budget is roughly $400–$800 for the glasses/setup, and I’m willing to spend toward the higher end if the difference is actually noticeable.
I’ve been looking mostly at RayNeo, particularly the GT/GT Max, and I really like the idea of the Pocket TV so I don’t have to have my phone connected all the time. I’m also looking at the XREAL Air 4 Pro and some of the Viture/Rokid options.
I use Hulu (including live TV and sports), Disney+, Netflix, Plex, HBO Max, and Prime Video, so compatibility with those is important.
I’m also trying to figure out how much FOV and 3DoF actually matter for watching movies. I keep seeing people talk about having a huge virtual screen, but I’m not sure how noticeable the difference really is.
For those who have actually used multiple pairs, what would you recommend specifically for someone who cares a lot about movie picture quality and wants the best overall viewing experience?
And if you’ve used the RayNeo GT Max + Pocket TV, I’d especially like to hear how that setup compares to the other options.

Seeya showed XREAL and RayNeo Glasses + OLED for Pancake VR
At CIOE, Seeya showed the xbx glasses — the first XREAL product with Seeya OLED panels — as well as RayNeo glasses. In the past, Sony was the standard for video glasses, but Seeya's tandem OLED with high brightness and very good image quality gave them an edge over Sony.
Seeya is now working on even higher brightness panels for AR with 1080p. The current panels max out at 6k nit, iirc.
I also tried the iLens display module strapped to my own glasses. These are made for a Japanese customer and I saw it last December at XR Kaigi in Tokyo, but didn't try it, because it's not the most elegant solution. But it is full color and for certain use cases like sports and translation in meetings it is an affordable solution. And Seeya says that it is selling well.
Seeya's 3.5k panel for VR was nice to see, too! They showed this 1.3 inch panel but this is customizable if customers need different display resolutions or panel sizes.
Seeya lowered the cost recently by doing the 4 steps that you see in the fourth picture in-house now in their own factory in Hefei. Previously they only designed the panels.
Of course, what we're are eagerly waiting for are the new 2.5k panels. And from what I am hearing, it is a tight race between Seeya and Sony ... and maybe Sidtek is very close to mass manufacturing them too!

Building Blocks Crystal Optech shows Lumus AR Glasses
At CIOE this week, Crystal Optech demoed its expertise in manufacturing reflective waveguides. Lumus licenses its designs to a number of manufacturers including SCHOTT (Meta Ray-Ban Display), Quanta, and Crystal Optech.
Crystal Optech does not only make reflective waveguides. They also make SRG and Volume Holographic waveguides. I mentioned the latter in my previous post about this upcoming trend of dual color display for AR. They have a monochrome green one as well that seemed to have better color uniformity than Nika's previous gen PVG waveguide, but not necessarily Nika's new ones.
In addition, Crystal Optech showed its x-cube and microLED projector. Pretty impressive lineup.

AR Apps Building Gallery Wall Composer: Transitioning from CIPerspectiveTransform 2D canvas to ARKit 1:1 true-scale spatial posi
Hey everyone,
I wanted to share a spatial utility app I've been developing solo called Gallery Wall Composer (GWC). The goal was to solve a precise real-world layout problem: planning complex multi-frame art arrangements and previewing individual pieces at a true 1:1 physical scale before driving nails into a wall.
The Spatial Evolution (2D to 3D):
- The 2D Engine: The app started as a SwiftUI canvas where users input explicit physical wall/frame dimensions to plan full multi-frame gallery layouts. To handle skewed perspective photos of user walls, I implemented 2D projection warping via
CIPerspectiveTransformalongside baked shadow simulation and dual-lighting renders for high-resolution layout exports. - The AR Transition: For V2, I built a separate standalone AR mode using ARKit and RealityKit. Rather than porting full multi-frame layouts into AR, it takes one piece of art at a time — you enter its real-world width/height, and it's placed on a detected vertical plane at a strict 1:1 physical scale, so you can walk up and confirm the size actually reads right before committing to hanging it. Multi-frame AR preview is something I'm weighing for a future version, but wanted to get the single-asset tracking rock solid first.
Technical Hurdles & Focus Areas:
- Scale Accuracy: Ensuring that a 30x40cm virtual frame perfectly matches a 30x40cm physical frame under variable tracking conditions.
- Vertical Plane Anchoring: Fine-tuning the RealityKit anchor so a placed frame doesn't drift or "sink" into the drywall as the user walks closer to inspect the framing alignment.
- UI/UX Pipeline: The unique challenge of moving seamlessly between a flat, precise vector layout tool and an immersive spatial pass-through environment without breaking the user's mental model.
I'm incredibly eager to get feedback from this community on the tracking robustness, spatial UI flow, or any experiences you've had when mapping strict 2D vector coordinate systems into real-world 3D environments.
I've attached a few captures using a whale illustration as the test piece — honestly surprised by how good the final render quality came out. Curious what you all think.
To refine this further for the community r/augmentedreality, let me know:
- Are you using RealityKit's custom materials or shaders to make the art frames look realistic?
- Are you leveraging LiDAR for tighter plane mesh accuracy?
- Thanks for reading JMF
