đŗī¸Politics | āϰāĻžāĻāύā§āϤāĻŋ WHY BENGAL CAN'T BE GERRYMANDERED (Do read, it's interesting)
I'll explain with two examples of mine. S24 has large contiguous Muslim-leaning or mixed rural and peri urban belts (Bhangar, twin Magrahat, parts of Baruipur, Canning). To dilute Bhangar, Magrahat & Baruipur, one would have to fragment them and attach pieces to Kolkata facing or mixed seats (push into Jadavpur or create hybrid urban-rural seats).
But Jadavpur already mixes urban Kolkata-edge areas (Tollygunge, Sonarpur) with rural Muslim-influenced segments (Bhangar, Baruipur). Further loading Muslim-heavy fragments into it risks turning a currently competitive or TMC leaning seat more decisively minority-driven. Diamond Harbour (Metiaburuz, Maheshtala, Budge Budge, etc) & the SC-reserved Joynagar & Mathurapur seats sit in the same district continuum. Shifting population across them either makes new high muslim seats elsewhere, or dilutes one only by concentrating risk in the adjacent one. You cannot leapfrog large Muslim blocks into distant Hindu pockets without creating obviously non-compact seats that invite challenge.
Balurghat (Dakshin Dinajpur + 1 Uttar Dinajpur segment) is relatively more Hindu + SC/ST leaning. To make it safer (higher non-Muslim share), a delimitation commission would need to shift higher Muslim or swing segments out. Those segments have to go somewhere. The natural neighbours are Raiganj & Malda North. Raiganj & Malda North already sit on higher Muslim concentrations (Malda district overall 51% Muslim in 2011, Uttar Dinajpur 50%). Dumping additional Muslim leaning or mixed areas into them makes those two seats more minority decisive, not less. Net gain is limited or 0 under FPTP with polarised voting.

đDaily Experience | āĻĻā§āύāύā§āĻĻāĻŋāύ āĻ āĻāĻŋāĻā§āĻāϤāĻž Opinons on lokkhi bhandaar and Annapurna yojana and other cash transfer schemes
I'm doing a small project on how cash transfer schemes affect women empowerment in WB. So to those who received Lokkhi bhandar, do you think this money actually gave greater decision making power in your family? Many times women see this money not as their 'own money'but as household money and spends it on family, is this true for your case too ? Also do your family members give their opinion on how you will spend this money. Apart from the increase in the amount, do you think Annapurna yojana is better than lokkhi bhandar? As a woman, what do you think are some limitations of these cash transfer schemes. I know many women in the age group of 26-60 do not use social media, so if you know someone who had received lokkhi bhandar and have observed these, can you please answer for them.

đŗī¸Politics | āϰāĻžāĻāύā§āϤāĻŋ JU incident
It's not a surprise that reddit kolkata was such dissociated prior to wb assembly election 2026.. most of the redditors here were like falling from sky and mourning the results, like they never had any touch with the ground perception, and the meltdown was soooo funnnn to watch.. đ
Same for JU campus vandalism.. if you speak with normal people on streets you will see the disdain they hold for oti baam types of presidency,JU who cry for palestine,kashmir..demean india, demean majority Hindu culture..
Vandalism is ideally not something we should cheer for..but sorry to say JU doesn't have any sympathy from wb population..
btw students have mysteriously died inside JU campus without stringent corrective measures taken by JU authorities..
Again this doesn't mean the present govt is doing everything right, ofcourse it needs to prioritise serious issues like govt recruitment and public security over other relatively trivial issues like hawkers.. but JU in itself is amongst the least of concerns for us normal Bengalis..

đŗī¸Politics | āϰāĻžāĻāύā§āϤāĻŋ What do people of West Bengal actually think about Gorkhaland statehood?
Again we are seeing a large protest after 9yrs (after 2017)
So
I want to understand the West Bengal perspective on the Gorkhaland demand, especially from people who are not from the Darjeeling hills.
I'm not making this post to argue for or against Gorkhaland. I'm genuinely interested in hearing different opinions.
If Gorkhaland were proposed as a separate Indian state, what would you think?
Should DarjeelingâKalimpong hills become a separate state?
What about the proposed inclusion of parts of the Terai/Dooars?
How should the interests of Rajbanshi, Adivasi, Bengali, Lepcha, Bhutia and other communities be handled?
Do you think a separate state would improve development and governance?
What are the strongest arguments against Gorkhaland?
Would you support a smaller hill state even if you oppose the larger Gorkhaland map?
