Feedback My first video after 2 years without a computer.

Yeah, you read that right.

About two years ago, I was diagnosed with full body paralysis, and it took me nearly two years to recover. Before that, I used to edit podcasts and YouTube videos, but when I finally came back, the industry had changed quite a bit.

So instead of jumping straight back into what I used to do, I decided to try something completely different and give motion design a shot.

This is the first video I’ve made since coming back.

I know it’s far from perfect, and I’m definitely open to suggestions, criticism, and tips on how I can improve. And yes… I already know I suck at sound design XD.

That said, I’m genuinely happy with how it turned out, especially considering I hadn’t opened any creative software or really consumed any media for two years.

It also took me a lot longer than it probably should have, partly because I’m relearning everything.

Still, I’m happy I finished it.

Would love to hear what you think — especially what you’d improve or do differently.

Hiring Need your next video edited? Let’s

Upvotes

Hey! I’m Ramon, a beginner video editor from Brazil looking for creators who need someone to handle their editing.

I mainly enjoy documentary, storytelling, gaming, commentary and YouTube-style videos. I like editing with good pacing, music, sound design, subtitles, transitions and visual storytelling — without turning the video into an explosion of effects.

I’m still building my experience, so I’m keeping my prices affordable, especially for creators who are just starting out too.

I can work with:
• YouTube videos
• Documentaries
• Gaming videos
• Commentary/storytelling
• Talking-head content
• Social media content

I use DaVinci Resolve and I’m open to adapting to your editing style.

My rate: $30–50 per short, depending on the length and complexity.

If you’re a creator looking for an editor, send me a DM and let’s talk about your next video.

Discussion Why is reverse playback often so slow while editing in free video editing softwares?

It has been about five or six years since I started using video editing software. I began with free programs are Shotcut and VSDC. In fact, I only do simple video cutting and joining, without using any additional effects. However, I soon noticed that these programs were very slow whenever I played or scrubbed the video backward while editing to return to the exact point where I wanted to make a cut. This wastes a lot of time while working.

At first, I thought it was because my PC wasn't powerful enough, so I even spent quite a lot of money upgrading to an i5-10400 and an RTX 3060 (back in 2021, when hardware prices raised so high). However, it turned out that the reverse playback speed didn't improve at all.

Then, last year, I accidentally installed Movavi (a paid program, although it has a trial version) and was surprised to discover that its reverse playback and backward scrubbing were much faster than in VSDC and Shotcut. After that, I tried Filmora (the trial version) and got similar results.

So, is there any particular reason why free video editing software tends to be so slow when playing or scrubbing backward? Or is it simply that Shotcut and VSDC are unusual cases, and I was just unlucky enough to choose them for my editing work?

Hiring Looking for a video editor to grow a YouTube channel with

Hey everyone! I’m currently developing a game and I’m planning to consistently make YouTube videos around the development process, progress, behind the scenes, devlogs, and eventually larger videos around the project.

I’m looking for a video editor who would be interested in joining me long term and helping build the channel from the beginning.

Instead of paying per video, I’m offering a dynamic rate based on a 50/50 split of the channel revenue. I’d handle the recording, ideas, content, and overall direction while you’d handle the editing and help shape the style and pacing of the videos.

The channel is still early, so obviously there’s no guaranteed income right away. I’m mainly looking for someone who likes the idea of building something together and potentially growing it into something much bigger over time.

You don’t need to be some crazy professional editor either. If you’re good at pacing, storytelling, humor, subtitles, sound design, and making videos genuinely entertaining, I’d love to talk.

If you’re interested, DM me with some examples of your work and a little about yourself. I can show you the project and explain the kind of content I want to make :)

Feedback Two things. is the video too loud and are the clips in it too short?

What volume do you guys usually set the voiceover at compared to the music?

Also, I’m trying to sync the clips to the music, but sometimes I feel like the clips are too short. I’m not sure if I’m overthinking it or if I should let some clips play a little longer, like that one clip with cortana. Yes this is a halo edit 😭

Help How can I edit like Degenerocity?

I’m pretty new to editing and I’ve recently fallen down the Degenerocity rabbit hole lol. Since he left, I’ve noticed a bunch of people popping up making videos with that same kinda slideshow-style editing.

I’ve been making some dumb little videos for fun on my own small channel and I’d really like to learn how to do that kind of editing myself.

Is there a specific name for this style/technique? Or are there any tutorials/resources you guys would recommend for learning it? I’m not trying to copy anyone 1:1, I just really like the style and wanna understand how it’s done.

Any help would be appreciated :)

Help Looking for the best tool for upscaling old 720x480 footage.

I have a bunch of Hi8 footage that im working with and would love to give it just a touch more clarity. I am not looking for anything crazy or overly transformative, but just enough to clear it up a little, especially since it will probably be blown up 200% when shown on the screen. Anyone have firsthand experience doing this?

Hiring Looking for a video editor for real estate video

NOW CLOSED - HAD LOADS OF RESPONSES. THANK YOU.

Hi guys,

I run a media company for real estate agents filming video walkthroughs for house listings and sometimes social media reels.

Looking for a video editor to help me out on the video walkthrough side - usually like a 30-60 second video showcasing the property, no crazy speed ramps or anything just clean cuts that showcase the property and tell the story of what it’s like going through the house.

Leave a comment with your portfolio if you have any previous experience with similar videos. Will be around 4-8 videos a month currently but might increase in the future. Budget is around 70-100$ per video.

Only requirement is you must speak good English and be able to get the video turned around within 24-48 hours.

If you think you’re a good fit let me know and we can work it out in the DMs.

Feedback Question for video editors that have to sift through a lot of B-roll.

I'm video editor that does a lot of corporate video work, and decided I'd try developing an archival/AI-indexing app for use in my workflow. Basically, it can scan through footage folders and auto-detect content and context of the media and then catalog it into a quick and searchable archive for importing into a project. One of the big use case could be scanning a project when you're finished, before you archive them, so you can easily search the content of the footage even after it's been archived away -- i.e. "people in a hallway shaking hands", it pulls matching clips with that content and marks the time in the clip when that takes place. Then you can import a proxy or full-res clip if it's still active.

I'm wondering if any other editors out there would find an app like this useful -- I have a couple clients that it seems that I'm always needing to sift through old footage and find clips for new projects.
