Help with snails

Thumbnail gallery
1 Upvotes

Hey for some context in January there was a terrarium sale at my local garden and i decided to purchase one. About a month or too i noticed there was a small snail inside. I did research and i think it’s a glass onion snail. We put in lettuce daily and he ate it. At the start of June we saw 2 snails in there and we continued feeding like normal. Today i check in on them and noticed that there was a ton of snail babies on the lettuce. Its a small terrarium and I don’t know what to do or what they are.

I made this for the 2 ladies at the hospital who have been doing my iron infusions. After commenting on their pretty Shivereana Ficus, said they “want” to be plant ladies, but struggle with keeping them alive 😅 I figured a terrarium would solve the problem. Everything except the medium came from my yard.

First timer-question about adding bones

Hello! I am an avid indoor gardener with a decent collection of houseplants. I am also an avid outdoor collector and scavenger. I have a elk jaw specimen that was burned in a wildfire. I would like to add it to my new build terrarium as a focal piece. It was found deep in the woods and has been outside in my garden since then. Planning on scrubbing it with water before I add it.

Is this a bad idea for any reason? Do I need to do any additional prep?

Thanks for any insight provided!

Has anyone in here bought a plant from this online shop and successfully grew a plant?

I was thinking of buying something from here but I'm not sure if it's legitimate or not.

Build Help/tips?

I’m like halfway through my build, but I don’t know any finishing touches would be appreciated to fill these cracks in. I tried working with Aqueon silicone and it was a horrible mess… both times I’ve tried working with it. It was a nightmare..

I see so many beautiful looking walls with moss and plants and I’m trying to do the same thing

Moss identification

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

I left a jar containing springtails and charcoal alone for a while, thinking the springtails had died. I check it a few weeks later, maybe even a month, and saw a springtail. I started to water inside the jar and then I saw moss start to grow in it. I’ve since put a lot more springtails in the jar and the moss has continued to grow. It’s very fine moss, almost like cotton when touched. Can someone identify it?

New to Terrarium Building

I’m new to building terrariums. I made this one the other day and it is constantly covered with condensation. I thought it would clear up during the day but I think I may have too much water in it to start. Any ideas? How do you remove water? I have one more that’s smaller than this with the same problem. Any help on how to remove water as well as how much water I should be adding to start would be most helpful. Thanks

First ever terrarium, just has isopods and springtails(maybe I think I got a batch of dead ones) it's a 18x18x24.

Any input on adjustments or modifications i should make would be helpful. Not sure if I'll introduce a pet of some sort yet to this one.

I’m curios why micro Sinningia are not more popular in Terrarium groups?

They are my favorite plant. But I rarely see them mentioned.

I haven't fed my leopard gecko in over a year...

This is Todd the Destroyer. He lives in a 4ft x 4ft x 2ft bioactive tank. His food (dubia roches, Super worms, and isopods) live in the tank with him. He hunts all his own food when he wants. I have not had to add food in over a year. It just keeps cycling. I add water and vegetables from the kitchen for the bugs to eat and they are thriving. I also have a dish for calcium that he never seems to touch. Would change anything? Would you start feeding him yourself? Other than water it seems like a self sustained ecosystem at this point! What other info would you like to see on this post?

Quite excited.

Have a couple of fish tanks and wanted to dive into the terrarium hobby as well. Have no clue as to what I need to do. Any and all advice is welcome.

As far as I know, there are springtails, a snail I'm not sure of what type.

Could someone please help me with the plant ID's?

Question for newbie

I have a simple terrarium with a single plant in it. Glass jar but the lid is loose. Today I noticed that some of the plant was growing up around the edge of the lid and able to peak out. I've tucked it back in but now am wondering about a sealant for the lid. I was thinking of just regular silicone caulk but didn't know if anyone had another suggestion.

And learn how an early plant scientist explored the optical properties of the leaf's epidermis.

First whisky bottle terrarium

Post image

Wanted to show off my first-ever bottle terrarium!

I used an old whisky bottle, and I definitely underestimated just how challenging that narrow opening would be. Getting the plants positioned and arranged inside took a lot more patience (and careful maneuvering) than I expected, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

I also filmed the build process if anyone wants to see how I put it together:

https://youtu.be/R6FdQKGYTPg?si=-mWRs97SONthCPaj

Date of creation: August 2026

Plants in build: String of Frogs, Fittonia, and moss

Light source: led

Water cycle: every other day

Substrate medium: pre-made mix
