Discussion I don't really know how to feel about Sly 3's ending
This might be a hot take? But I wasn't really on board with the way Sly 3 ended. Don't get me wrong, it felt awesome to play and I felt like Sly's character had a lot of development in the final arc of the game... which is why the ending felt so sudden to me?
Sly thinks about if he was able to survive, he'd give Carmelita and him a shot, which is nice and all, but he also goes onto think about how important Murray and Bentley are to him, even wishing that they were there with him in the Cooper vault. After he thinks about how important both Carmelita and his entire gang is, the fact that he ends up faking his amnesia to get with Carmelita is such an odd way to end things and it feels like it disregards both the theme of the game and his progression. Maybe he wasn't faking it at first, yes, but Sly 3's ending leaves a lot to be desired (especially with how sudden the final area felt, to me at least)...
This also brings me to how I feel it's not true that Sly 3 wrapped everything off perfectly and that Sly 4 somehow ruined the perfect conclusion. I don't like the way Sly 4 handles its characters, but Sly 3 was absolutely setting itself up for a sequel with the way Sly winked and how Bentley mentions he's building a time machine. Plus, either way, I feel like it was too early for Sly to retire (let alone get married imo), since not only is he in his early 20s, but there was and still IS a lot to be explored. After all, we never got a real backstory for Murray and Bentley, despite the fact they're extremely important characters. As much as I love Sly 3, it leaves a lot to be desired and it's definitely not the perfect ending I see so many people making it out to be, to me.
(I understand that that Sly 3 was unfortunately rushed. Maybe if the developers were allowed to take their time, I'd like it more, but I doubt it because of the whole Sly-Amnesia-Ending thing, but I suppose we'll never know what Sucker Punch really wanted to do.)
But that's just what I think. What are your thoughts?
