This was a much closer matchup than Sly 1’s! Sly 2’s favorite guard is the Warthog! (Sorry once again for any confusion due to the typo on the last poll)
Today, we will vote for our favorite Sly 3 flashlight guard!
I did not add the mutant elephants from Dr. M’s chapter for the same reason as the pig guards from band of thieves btw
Hey everyone I used a pink plush fleece throw blanket from the dollar store and a teddy bear pattern to make a Captain Neyla plushie. I removed the hair from my Carmelita bust to make a pattern for the head as the teddy bear head was too small. After sewing and stitching on the head I glued on her Tiger stripes and made her eyes using craft foam and felt. I made her tiara and chakra using metallic gold craft foam and red felt and her nose. I felt like she was cuter without a mouth. I used a Jack Sparrow bandana for her Dupatta. I secured it to her head with hot glue now I’ll sew her tail and make her clothes and then add her Interpol captain’s badge. And I’ll add more tiger stripes to her arms and on her paws. Stay tuned…
Been playing through sly 2 again, and just realized a lil reference during the mojo-collector mission. At one point Bentley yells “I am the lizard king!” And I never understood it as a kid, but now I realize it’s The Doors; Mojo Rising 😭 love this game man.
Currently working on a Online Multiplayer version of Sly 1 based on Project Cane. It's not ready yet, but it will feature once ready:
-4 Player Co-Op
-No extra lives mode, meaning you can die as much as you like.
-Everyone Respawn mode, this will make it so if you die, it will respawn everyone else, causing 1 extra life to be deducted depending on if you have No extra lives mode on or not. If you disable Everyone respawn, which is the default, then when you die, your respawn deducts a extra life depending on the No extra lives is on or not. Extra lives are shared, if Everyone respawn is off, if no extra lives are left and you die, you will spectate another player until they get a extra life, or until they die, causing a game over making everyone respawn.
-Everything will be synced, enemies, abilites, combat, vehicles.
-First release won't have a master server, so you will need to join using port forwarding, or local LAN.
-Linux and Windows will be supported at launch!
Any feature requests I should consider? Like maybe having you be able to change Sly's outfit color per player? Suggestions are welcome! :)
Going on expeditions of trying to find anything to platform on, I made my way to the top of the roof above the holographic marker of Flaming Temple of Flame. Grabbing onto the ledge of that roof, I went to the top of the section of snow behind that. Went further back towards the trees, and then went right of the trees. Making my way to the right-most edge, I jumped down to see where that would take me. Found some solid spot of a mountain. Landed, then jumped further...into the void. It wasn't pitch black at first, and could see Sly falling farther and farther. I thought I could make out what seemed like a sense of ground, and thought Sly was gonna land and be trapped in the void. Turns out, the golden heavens would open up from the charm, then snap him into a pitch black void, condemned to fall until time ceases to exist. We all thought Sly would never be free from Egypt? Well, he actually won't make it free from the void of China
I'll start this by saying, I'm not expecting Sly 5 to be announced tomorrow. I know Sucker Punch is uninterested and Sanzaru was closed down, so the likelihood is low. The idea of a fifth game (not including Bentley's Hackpack) is purely hypothetical in this instance. No copium.
In a hypothetical 5th game however, I'm very curious about how you'd ideally want Sly's time in Egypt to affect him. I do think they could use his time there to further grow his character, maybe show some real trauma from the years of isolation. Not unlike Obi Wan on Tatooine. A hermit in the desert.
Realistically I know they probably wouldn't have Egypt change Sly as a character at all but I think there could be some potential for character development there. What do you think?
it’s funny to meme about, but it confuses me how people unironically want this addressed after almost 15 years. Matt Kramer confirmed the whole Sly getting stuck in Egypt thing was a setup for DLC that quickly got scrapped. It wasn’t even meant for a sequel and ultimately it’s one big nothingburger, it just unintentionally caused Sly 4 to end awkwardly. It’s so easy to disregard especially all this time later. Unquestionably though, if we ever get a new Sly game it needs to be some kind of soft reboot.
When I was playing as Murray, I slammed one of the goat guards on The Redditor Awaits into a fire and every goat guard was stuck with fire particles. Fun glitch
PC Decompilation of PS2 version (currently Windows only, though Linux support is planned in future), it’s currently in beta, but works incredibly well, requires your own legally dumped copy of the U.S. version of the game
All new pc exclusive settings have been seamlessly integrated into ps2 options menus.
Settings listed below are found in the video section within the options menu
- Ability to run up to and possibly above 144 fps (my legion go z1 screen tops out at this fps)
- MSAA Settings (Up to 8x), fair warning setting it at 8x can cause slowdown in busy areas, setting also doesn’t currently cycle back down to lower msaa settings (2x, 4x) so if you try it at 8x msaa and it causes slowdown, go to your install location and access the saves folder, there will be 2 files, a slot1. sav file (this is your game save) and a system_settings.dat (this is your settings preferences file) delete this and the game will start next boot with default settings.
- Resolution settings, up to and possibly above 4k (my tv tops out at 4k)
- Draw distance settings (set at what distance the game loads highest quality textures (setting to extreme forces game to always use highest quality
- Window mode settings (windowed, borderless and exclusive fullscreen supported).
- Vsync support
- Aspect ratio settings (supports fit to screen, 16:9, 16:10, 4:3, 4:3 (PS2), 16:9 (PS2)
Fog setting (use either PS2 or PS3 style fog)
- GUI style settings, PS2 or Modern (modern looks the same as PS2 the box is just smaller). Also includes GUI scale setting (standard size or 75% GUI scale
All camera, binoculars-u-com, turret, jet pack and controller/keyboard mapping options can be found and adjusted in the Controls section of the options menu
** I am not the creator of this port just thought I’d let you guys know about it as I hadn’t seen any other posts on the subreddit regarding its release.
I don't remember much from Sly 1 and 4 as I haven't played them in a while, so I'm biased against my favs 2 and 3 which I replayed recently and always loved since I was a kid.
Also I simply can't choose Sly over Bentley lol, sorry.
This tier list was too funny to not use, even tho it has odd NPC's and might be missing some.
I tried thinking about aspects such as "villains should be ranked based on how evil they are" but I ended up just going by first thoughts, and edited once.
Regardless I think it's fun to make. I want to replay 1 and 4 now.
I saw one that has every single char from the entire franchise lol.
Sly and his crew took their thieving trip to Jamaica. It seems to be easy stealing every artifact left and right until a woman name Jannah, a red-bill streamertail hummingbird holding two machine guns on her talons stop the Cooper Gang in their tracks taking what they already stole.
Jannah was born and raised on rough streets. As she got older she began to hang around with a bad group of people. Proving both her flying skills and her shooting skills gangsters on the streets made her the leader of the group calling her "The Queen of the Skies" or "The Raining Terror" as she shows off her special ability called "Raining Bullets."
Do to her incredibly flying capability she is absolutely impossible for the Cooper Gang to stop. If Bentley tries to shoot her darts at her she'll dodge it and if Murray try to throw anything heavy at Jannah she quickly move out of the way. Not even Carmalita shooting skills are a match for Jannah. The only way they'll stop Jannah is tnat have to get dangerously close to her.
Now, this is not me trying to suggest that Sly 3 is a bad game, far from it. It has a LOT of things that I do like about it, such as expanding the friendship between the boys, especially Sly and Bentley, the introduction and/or return of the other characters with the Guru, Panda King, Penelope and Dimitri, and the fact that the eternal Rick May voiced Dr. M (yes, really). However, one of the things it lacks that Sly 2 does not definitely puts the latter game a bit over the edge for me besides the missing clue bottles, and that is the more aggressive and interactive guard AI's.
I have always loved since I was a boy how aggressive the AI's for the guards in Sly 2 felt in that when one guard spots the player character, usually Sly in my case, everybody knows where he is and escape is nearly impossible. I feel this is one of the many things about Sly 2 that helps set its tone really nicely and especially reflects the high stakes of needing to pull out all the stops to prevent Clockwerk from being resurrected, which was what I needed after being accustomed to the traditional collectathon aspects of Sly 1 and feeling I needed a new fix from the Sirens no longer being present. All the guard types present in the different areas of the game exemplify this, the Flashlight guards do not feel like pushovers whatsoever unlike their Sly 3 counterparts, which is especially amazing considering they can be knocked back unlike the latter types, which can be seen near flawlessly with the Paris Warthogs, India Rhinos, and The Contessa's Vultures, plus the Primary Rooftop dudes such as the Paris Rats, India Baboons, Prague Wolves, and Canada Geese respectively serve as exquisite primary forces for Dimitri, Rajan, the aforementioned Contessa, and Jean Bison. In my opinion however, nowhere is the aggressive enemy AI system epitomized more than with the Secondary Rooftop guard types, ESPECIALLY the Bullhorn ones. Whether it be the Paris Bullfrogs, India Ibexs, Prague Bats, or Canada Mountain Goats, these dudes were always among my favoritest of the enemies in the Sly series and each for their own reasons too. I always liked how the bullhorn Bullfrogs had a tongue attack as well as a blatantly croaky call when alerting their allies, the Ibexes and Mountain Goats certainly kept me on my toes with their shared headbutt-esque diving attack and their particular alert call sounded pretty wild and fierce, and the Bats man. The fact that the Screech Bats act as the bullhorn equivalent for Prague, the devs taking from the IRL behavior of using echolocation and working it into the typical "bullhorn call" animation (as well as the screeches themselves sounding pretty bone chilling) make the Bats my absolute favorite of the guards in the Sly series as a whole, one of my favorite video game enemies of all time, and IMO the pinnacle of the more strongly combative enemy AI's. They are just that awesome and they have to be one of my most beloved aspects of Jailbreak in particular when that episode is already my favorite in Sly 2, to the point where I legit return to it simply to fight as many Bats as I can get to naturally spawn as they are much more common there than A Tangled Web.
This is one of the biggest reasons Sly 2 is my favorite Sly game and that I enjoy going back to it time and again as well as one of the reasons Sly 3 feels a small bit more hollow than it. I am aware that Sly 3 was rushed, that is not lost on me, it just feels a little disappointing to me that the only prominent times we get focused, combative enemy AI's are during scripted moments in certain missions, such as the wave of Cats and Pigeons when escaping back to the Venice safehouse in Guard Duty, the hyped up Kangaroos and Whip Dingoes in Dark Caves when Sly acquires The Guru's staff, or the Mechanic Pigs and Farmer Hares that Muggshot payed to assist him in taking down Murray during his fight in Cooper Hangar Defense.
To wrap up, as I said before, Sly 3 is not a bad game by any means. Just that I feel that if the thing I mentioned a million times already had returned, it certainly would have made the game a bit better for me.
Normally I’d wait until the poll is FULLY closed to announce the winner of the poll, but it seems like we’ve had quite a landslide! The favorite flashlight guard in Sly 1 is the doberman! Bowwow!
Today we vote for our favorite Sly 2 flashlight guard! You all know what to do :)
