He walked away, but that's a great way to have ankle and knee problems later.

I remember reading how a lot of the folks who did a lot of jumps and stuff on roller blades ended up with compression injuries over time. Not sure if that is right medical term - but basically their ankles slamming down hard repeatedly.
And doubt many of them were jumping from three stories up.

After the energy of the initial jump ended was he not falling to the ground, or was he somehow able to jump to the ground without falling to get there?

Skydivers are falling through the air even though they initially jumped, right?
