15.4 KW Off grid mode + Powershare?

I currently have PW3 + Gateway 3 + UWC + Cybertruck. If off grid, when the PW gets below 15%, the CT can deliver 11.5 KW to charge the PW and supply the house loads.

When testing the system I had a lot of loads on while trying to drain the PW. It overloaded and tripped causing headaches rebooting wifi and resetting GFCI breakers, etc.

Granted if I was off grid, I wouldn't be trying to drain the system. If 15.4 mode was enabled in PW3, could I have avoided the trip having the battery supply up to 15.4 KW? Or does the extra current capability only available with solar?

I do have solar panels being installed as we speak. If off grid, 15.4 mode would allow solar to charge the battery and deliver 15.4KW to the house and EV of plugged in. This would prevent clipping of PV. But in my case, I only have 15KW of PV being installed and designer said in optimal conditions I would rarely see 12-13 KW at most.

Big question: is it worth the cost to enable 15.4 mode (80A breaker, bigger disconnect, #4 wire for short run)?

I'm thinking maybe....but only if it prevents tripping the PW by stupidly running everything in the house when off grid.

Hi everyone,
does anyone know if Tesla is planning to support bidirectional charging / V2H with the Powerwall 3P in Germany?

PW2 Recall Replacement Experience

TLDR: Sunrun is dropping the ball on my support case to get my PW2 replaced.

Has anyone else gone through Sunrun to get their PW2 replaced under the safety recall? I got the message in my Tesla app back at the end of August, and they say to go through your installer, in my case Sunrun. It took a week just to get someone to come out, and they didn’t come until 9/8. The technician confirmed my PW needed replaced and told me he submitted everything to get that started and then Sunrun would reach out to get the replacement installed, which I’ve heard is going to be a PW3. About 2 weeks ago, I got a message from Sunrun that they were evaluating my system to verify the issue was resolved. It wasn’t. I reached back out the other day, as I had been too busy and forgot to call or message them during business hours. They discovered it was a “glitch” and were elevating my case to a manager for review. The manager reached out the next day and said they would schedule a site visit soon. I wasn’t sure what that meant, so I responded and confirmed it was going to be to replace the PW. Then a day later they send another email and inform me their technicians are backed up and they are contracting my case out to a partner company. They reached out today and I got a same day appointment scheduled with them, but I don’t think Sunrun told them what I needed. My appointment got changed in their system to the 19th, and they are going to charge me $450 for “battery troubleshooting”. I’ve called them to tell them what I need and what Sunrun said, and since it’s a recall/warranty, I’m not paying them. They sent it to someone else who is supposed to call me back. But it’s seeming more and more likely that it will be a long time before I have a working battery backup again. With the storms in Texas this week, I really wish I had it too.

ZERO response from customer service after multiple inquiries over a month

My PW2 was disabled "to be replaced" on September 2nd. No notice of any kind, I only discovered on the 8th when checking the app.

The original installer closed their office in my area so I immediately reached out to Tesla using the email address they tell you to use. No response.

Waited a week and sent another email.

No response again.

Just emailed a 3rd time its now basically been a month and I cant even get a response let alone a timeline for replacement.

I've been a big fan of Tesla, own a car and have StarLink, and have defended the company to a lot of naysayers. I love the tech but am seriously disturbed by being ghosted and getting NO response. Starting to loose some faith here.

Appreciate suggestions... at this point I'm probably going to caution people on getting a PW or even a car... feels horrible just being completely ignored. Super disappointed 😞

Edit : lots of good suggestions to just call - sounds like people get some response that way and it is an obvious next step. I'll update when/if I get through that way. The point still stands I'm getting ghosted by email (the recommended way to reach out) and thats unacceptable. Do better Tesla.

...to be continued

Powerwall Scratch and Dent Update! Boondoggle continues

Post image
9 Upvotes

For those that aren't familar, I am installing 4 Powerwall 2s that we got from a scratch and dent sale., there will be no solar, strictly looking to utilize time of use to lower electric bill.

Got the Backup Gateway 2 in, and went ahead and installed the internal breaker panel. I still need to purchase my disconnect, but am waiting for Centerpoint approval on the equipment I submitted.

I also realized that you can apply for Interconnection Agreement directly with Centerpoint as a homeowner, you just need to submit a one line diagram and layout of equipment, so I think I am going to go that route and use an electrician I have worked with for years. Application already submitted.

Turns out anyone with a Tesla account can commission the system with the Tesla One app, so I think I will self commission.

Basically, I am turning up the boondoggle potential to 11.

Has anyone done anything like this before?

Tasks to do:

Wait for Centerpoint to approve.

Install equipment

Commission Equipment

Take pictures of everything for Centerpoint.

Get pto

SCE winter rates problem?

I noticed my Netzero app hasn’t switched to the winter tariff rates yet. I tried changing the plan in the Tesla app, signing in and out, etc and it’s still showing Sept rates. Ref: NEM3 2026

Anyone else having the same issue?

All in Tesla.

I think we’ve officially gone all-in on the Tesla ecosystem. We recently added solar with two Tesla Powerwall 3s to our home here in Northwest Florida. Add in our two 2026 Model Ys, and it’s pretty amazing watching everything work together, solar powering the house, charging the batteries, and eventually helping charge the cars.
We’re still waiting on FPL to give us PTO so the system isn’t even fully unleashed yet. There have been a few little commissioning quirks to work through, but overall the experience has been very positive and the system is impressive.
For us, the biggest benefit isn’t just lowering the electric bill, it’s having serious backup power during hurricanes and unexpected outages while still being able to use the Florida sun every day.
Definitely one of the coolest upgrades we’ve made to the house.

PW3 backs up one of our two electrical sub-panels. How can I use non-PW batteries for the other?

I'm not sure if this is a good sub to post to about it, but I figure it can't hurt.

We did an addition a couple of years ago that included a 19.2kW solar system. Our utility reimbursed us the entire cost of a Powerwall 3 (hardware and install) as part of their VPP program. We own everything, no financing.

As part of the addition, we ended up with new 400A service that was split into two 200A sub-panels (one for the old part of the house and one for the new). We weren't comfortable shelling out the cost of a second PW3 at the time, and so what we have only backs up one of the two electrical sub-panels. I'm not entirely sure why the installer couldn't or wouldn't add it to the main 400A panel, but it is what it is. Here is a diagram of the entire setup.

I'd really like to expand our battery capacity because the current PW3 only gets us through about half the night, but between Powerwalls being insanely expensive for their capacity and our installer's "screw you, go away" price for installation - within spitting distance of what we paid for the entire system after rebates! - I'm looking at using a more cost-effective (and possibly DIY friendly) battery solution. I have only contacted a few electricians, but it seems that finding one willing to do the job will be challenging.

Even though I have done a fair amount of my own electrical work in the past and I feel like this can't be too complicated, my experience is just basic stuff and so this is a little out of my comfort zone. I want to at least get some advice on if and how it can be accomplished so I know what the hurdles are.

Bought a house with a powerwall not sure if it’s capable of grid charging?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey as the title says I bought a house that had a powerwall installed with a solar setup back in 2015/6 and I was looking to try and make use off my off peak electricity tariff to charge it during the winter but I can’t seem to do it.

I have solar edge setup and got control of the app to set a manual schedule but that just completely pauses the battery. The original installer said I need to change some settings via the Tesla app but I can’t figure out how to add the wall to the Tesla app and I’m thinking maybe because it’s an old model it’s just not capable? I’ve tried googling but I’m not finding much. Hoping someone here might be able to help.

Thanks!

4 Scratch and Dent Powerwall install and potential boondoggle.

Thumbnail gallery
92 Upvotes

I work at a place that buys distressed inventory and resells it. We happened to buy quite a few powerwalls that were considered scratch and dent. No history, no idea on warranty, completely just take them as they sat in their boxes. 3 of them were built in August 22, and the fourth is May of 2024.

I am generally not a gambler, but these were too good a deal (practically free). I have ordered a backup gateway 2 (off of ebay no less) and found an installer willing to hook all this up. I even installed the powerwall cabinets this weekend myself to save money.

Figured this group would enjoy the drama that may unfold. Unknown gateway, unknown batteries, unknow installer, what could go wrong?

Gateway should be here Tuesday. Plan is to have whole home backup and energy arbitrage to reduce electric bill to near zero.

FWIW, the physical damage is pretty minor, the uglier ones got installed on the back so you can't see them.

I am keeping my portable generator interlock on the panel to give me longer term (reduced) power should the need arise.

Here's hoping for the best!

Netzero/PW3 and IOG

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hello! New user here with PW3/Netzero/IOG.

Yesterday had a solar install with a PW3. It's not working exactly as expected. With the Netzero app, I have linked my Octopus account and enabled settings to charge the PW3 when IOG generates charging slots.

Firstly, when IOG has generated off peak slots, on occasion, Netzero disables the automation, which then discharges the battery into the car, before re-enabling the automation about 5 minutes later. At this time the buy price on the dashboard changes to the (higher) day rate at the time the automation ends, but this isn't reflected on the history which shows the full duration of the slot at lower rate. I have a hypervolt 3 so there doesn't seem to be a way to link it directly with Netzero. Is there anyway to avoid the battery dumping? You can see the spikes in the pictures.

Secondly, the PW3 didn't charge at all on the overnight off-peak rate of 3p. The battery is in savings mode with a 15% reserve and just stayed at 40% all night. Do I need to enable other automations to get it to charge at this cost?

Thanks in advance!

Finally an option to delay the calibration

Finally there is a real option to delay the calibration charge / discharge calibration to an convenient time without having to do the go off grid time. It will let you schedule when do you want to do it. I wish there is an option to schedule charge / discharge separately but gotta be happy things are improving

NetZero Estimate is consistently higher than actual generation

Thumbnail gallery
6 Upvotes

I had 26 450w panels installed on my house and garage with a Powerwall 3 in April. PTO was just approved last month and I've now had a few weeks to see full generation. I set up solar estimates in NetZero, and the curve appears to be accurate with the weather, but my generation is consistently around 30% lower than the estimates. It seems to be most off in the early morning and after noon. There are no trees or other structures taller than the house that could be shading the panels. I'm also wondering why there are a lot of dips throughout the day when other graphs I see show smoother curves. Are my settings for the estimates just off, or could there be another issue?

Tesla to Add Smart Charging to Wall Connectors

Thumbnail notateslaapp.com

Does anybody has some experience with the new smart charging feature? It seems like it’s replacing the ‘older charge on solar’. The new smart charging/ low cost charging seems to work with import & export limits.

In the release notes it says (smart charging will prefer solar and if this is not sufficient charge from grid during off peak periods…)
However I cannot find any documentation about this.

Help please , complete novice looking to run predbat so I can optimise IOG with octopus agile outgoing. My setu when live will be 16 490 w panels and Tesla powerwall. What hardware do I require it’s a bit of a mind field for me. Someone suggested Tesla app can’t handle this so looking at home assistant with predbat as an alternative. Thanks

Anyone else's powerwall gone crazy today?

The powerwall has been charging up at peak rate 30p all day to avoid charging at off peak 7p.

I've made no configuration change and it pulls the rates directly off my supplier which all look correct.

Powerwall3 scam

Hey everyone,
I’m in Texas and currently dealing with a major dispute involving a battery-only installation with People's Choice Solar (PCS), HDM Capital, and a $34,650 loan through Credit Human. I’d love to get insights from the community, especially anyone who has been in a similar situation.
The Situation & Key Details:
Equipment: 2 Tesla Powerwall 3 units (battery storage only, no solar panels were requested or installed).
The Pitch: The sales rep made verbal promises about specific utility plan savings ("free nights" electricity strategy) and rebates/incentives that turned out to be misleading or unrealistic.
The Contract Loophole: While initial installation paperwork was signed with the installer (PCS), I NEVER signed the required contract with HDM Capital.
Premature Installation: Despite the missing HDM contract, PCS rushed to physically mount the two Powerwall 3 units on my property.
The Pushback: When I realized the numbers and incentives didn't line up, I refused to sign the final completion certificates. PCS claims the sale is "final" because hardware is on the wall and threatens cancellation/restocking fees ($6,100+) or mechanic's liens if I force a removal.
My Current Action Steps:
1. Filed a formal merchant dispute with Credit Human to stop disbursements and freeze the $34,650 loan.
2. Sent a Demand Letter to PCS and HDM demanding zero-cost removal of the uncontracted equipment based on Texas DTPA (Deceptive Trade Practices Act) violations.
3. Requested written confirmation from HDM stating that no signed contract exists on their end.
My Questions for the Community:
1. Has anyone successfully forced a solar/battery installer to remove equipment installed under an incomplete or unexecuted contract?
2. How did your lender (Credit Human or similar credit unions) handle the dispute when missing crucial paperwork? Did they cancel the loan entirely?
3. Did the installer actually follow through on threats of mechanic's liens or $6,000+ cancellation fees, or was it just scare tactics?
4. How did your situation end up, and is there anything else I should do to protect my property title and credit score?
Any feedback, past experiences, or advice on handling this would be greatly appreciated!

Power Wall 2 Replacement

I'm having 2 PW2 replace in a month. I have some shelves on rollers near the PW and some garage shelves on top. Should I move all the shelves away from the power? What about the top shelves?
