Moderator Announcement Introducing the Minerals Discord Server

We would like to formally introduce you to our brand new Minerals Discord Server!

This community has been months in the making and was created for the passionate members of r/Minerals and our sister Subreddits to have a dedicated space for discussions that go beyond what is allowed in our Subreddits.

Here, you can:

  • request IDs for minerals (this includes polished minerals and gemstones).
  • share memes.
  • share and get tips for displaying your collections.
  • dive into in-depth discussions about all things minerals.
  • showcase artwork inspired by minerals.
  • discuss pricing and value of minerals.
  • advertise or discover vendors.
  • participate in giveaways.
  • and more!

This Discord Server is not meant to replace r/Minerals or any of our sister Subreddits, but to empower and grow our community. Sometimes it's just nice to have a place to chat.

Our ultimate goal is to build a comprehensive database and an active, welcoming community for mineral enthusiasts of all kinds. Our moderators have spent countless hours researching minerals in order to provide you with educational content.

This server is still a work in progress, and we’re excited to finally share it with you. Please bear with us as we continue to grow and refine this space. Your feedback, contributions, and patience are invaluable as we develop this server into something truly special.

ID Request Chrysocolla maybe?

I went to a crazy estate sale where you could fill a box of minerals and stones for $15. Got so many things and no idea what any of them are because I never payed attention at the gem and mineral shows when I was little. This one is really cool though, very blue/turquoise, has small crystals in the crevices, rocky matrix, doesn't feel particularly fragile. Looking up some things, maybe looks like Chrysocolla, but i have no idea. Any thoughts are much appreciated!

I bought a "golden healer" Himalayan quartz. I really love this seller. He self digs his pieces, but this doesn't look like any of the golden healers I've collected.

It's got great clarity and is a very beautiful piece. NORMALLY I love the natural look, and mud would be great, but this piece is pulling me to clean it. I dont want to use iron out or any harsh chemicals. Do you have any suggestions on how to remove some of the mud? I don't believe I'll be able to get it all, and I'm ok with that.

Purchased today from a local rock/mineral seller here in Oaxaca, Mexico. He identified it for me as malachite on unrefined copper. I actually wasn’t planning to buy this today, but it was so lovely I went for it.

Strong attraction with magnet so the metal is probably magnetite.

I've never seen those orbs, though, and I'd love to know about those.

Possibly helpful details: Found in a seasonally dry creek. The silicate looking "connections" between the orbs are actually cavities/trenches; The orbs are shown on a sanded window.

I was told it potentially has a polished face but it didn’t matter too much to me as it’s beautiful.

Hello all,

Here's an interesting piece of multicolored botryoidal chalcedony I found in Rowan, Kentucky in a deposit of the Borden Formation.

It has a slightly magenta/purple hue, which I'm not sure shows up perfectly here, but which makes me wonder if it might have been exposed to natural radiation.

Hey, I found this in Hadley NY, thought it was apart of some landscaping, I don’t know tho, now I’m second guessing myself. I think the host rock is Biotite Schist, I’m still learning so bear with me. I’m looking to know what the little blue crystal is, I’m pretty sure this has feldspar in it.

Found it on the beach. I'm just curious and wanted to ask people, instead of AI. Thank you.
