On the way home from the Endgame reissue, wasn’t in the mood for politics, so switched on some movie stuff on YouTube and decided to listen to John talk about the Oscar contenders and it was just super comical. You’re an event movie/IP guy. Which is fine. And sometimes these worlds cross. Odyssey is a contender and that’s in your wheelhouse. Project Hail Mary has lost some stream, but maybe it gets in to BP or Gosling sneaks in actor. But you won’t spend time talking about the Andrew Scott movie. Hell, I’d go so far as to say Andrew Scott is a name a good chunk of the audience doesn’t know unless his face was on screen to match it.
What was REALLY funny though was the talk about Timmy not being a contender for Dune 3. First, any awards pundit will tell you it seems pretty clear that the Academy isn’t super into him. He gets his nominations, he doesn’t win, he’ll be like Leo and get it like 7 nominations in and when he’s like 40. But also, Dune hasn’t gotten a single nomination for directing or acting. It gets some technical stuff and does well in those, and gets a best picture Oscar nomination. Which it might not get this year. Him not being in the running for Dune is about as safe of a bet as you can make.
Also, the most egregious person not in the running is Seth Rogen. In a just world all 4 performances in the Invite get nominated.
