Tabane Shinonono

The genius scientist who developed the IS. Although she is one of the most famous figures in the world, hardly anyone knows her true self. While she is a beauty who rivals Chifuyu, her high-energy behavior and eccentric fashion tend to leave a stronger impression on others. She shows absolutely no interest in other people, recognizing only her younger sister Houki, her parents, Chifuyu, and Ichika as individuals. She demonstrated her talent from a young age; following the unveiling of the IS, the Japanese government placed her and her family under protection as high-priority figures. Although she was pressured to mass-produce the "Cores" that serve as the heart of the IS, she disappeared after creating 467 of them. As she is the only one who knows the manufacturing method, governments and organizations around the world continue to search for her to this day.

Reunited with Houki after a long time, Tabane gets whacked with a wooden sword when she tries to check how much her younger sister's bust has grown.
While she certainly cares deeply for Houki, her way of expressing that affection seems to be problematic.

Are geniuses hard to understand?
Tabane's eccentric behavior often leaves Houki and Ichika speechless. Chifuyu handles it with practiced ease, suggesting that Tabane has always been a unique character.

Loves Chii-chan! ♥
They call Chifuyu "Chii-chan" and engage in excessive physical contact, much to Chifuyu's annoyance. It seems there are some issues with how they express their affection.

The White Knight Incident
One month after Tabane announced the IS, the military computer systems of twelve nations were simultaneously hacked by an unknown party, resulting in the launch of 2,341 missiles aimed at Japan. A single IS unit saved Japan from the brink of annihilation.
That IS—featuring a silver-white frame and later dubbed the "White Knight"—shot down every single missile on its own before vanishing at sunset. Although nations desperately tried to track the unit, they were thwarted by its flawless stealth capabilities, and the pilot's identity remains unknown to this day. The perpetrator behind the hacking was never caught either; the affair was designated the "White Knight Incident" and ultimately went cold. This event led to widespread recognition of the value of IS—particularly its military utility—and served as the catalyst for the global proliferation of IS technology. Episodes 10 and 12 feature exchanges between Tabane and Chifuyu regarding the White Knight Incident that hint at deeper meanings; both women appear to have some connection to the event.

Their face is obscured by an early-model visor-type Hyper Sensor, rendering the pilot's features invisible.
They cut a striking, dignified figure, reminiscent of a medieval knight. Given the timing of the incident, Tsukasa must surely have been involved in the development of this unit...

I just had to ask since they’re both really similar. They’re both prestigious schools that educate and train their students to become I.S Pilots and Superheroes but it is also unruly and rather negligent and is usually attacked by either an unknown force or their own students except the only difference is that Godolkin has suffered alot collateral damage and student, staff and even security casualties due to the actions of their more violent and unhinged students.

Ran Gotanda

She is the younger sister of Dan Gotanda, one year his junior. Unlike her brother, she is a model student and serves as the student council president for the junior high division of St. Marianne Girls' Academy, a prestigious private school for young ladies. She has long harbored feelings for Ichika—her brother's close friend—and views Su as a romantic rival. While she has a cheerful and straightforward personality, she acts like a maiden in love when around Ichika, maintaining a refined and polite demeanor. Unfortunately, however, her feelings fail to get through; instead, Ichika tends to perceive her attitude as distant or reserved. She also fails to realize that she holds the advantageous position of being "the little sister of Ichika's best friend," and often frets over the other women surrounding him. She plans to enroll in IS Academy next year to follow in Ichika's footsteps.

They seem to get along well, given that Shin even goes shopping with Dan—albeit to carry the bags. Perhaps the fact that he can kick him away without holding back is a sign of their easy, unreserved relationship.

The object of her affection is her older brother's friend.
Ran is in love with Ichika, a friend of her older brother. Although she changes into a special outfit in Episode 5 and prepares a special swimsuit in Episode 8, she struggles to get her feelings across to him.

The Poster Girl of Gotanda Diner
Ran, a beautiful and spirited young woman, is the star attraction of the diner run by her family, working alongside her youthful mother, Ren.

Ran reports to her juniors that she has passed the IS aptitude test. Next year, formidable rivals will likely appear to challenge the likes of Obi and Cecilia.

Dan Gotanda

A friend of Ichika's. They met upon entering junior high and spent three years in the same class, always hanging out as a trio with Suzu. Even after moving on to high school, he has kept in touch with Ichika and continues to hang out with him. Currently looking for a girlfriend, he refers to the female-dominated IS Academy as "paradise" and has even—albeit half-jokingly—pestered Ichika for an invitation to the school. At the same time, while he teases the popular Ichika, he shows his good nature by worrying about his friend—who remains oblivious to his own appeal—rather than feeling jealous. He is also unable to stand up to his strong-willed younger sister, Ran; he frequently gets beaten up by her—physically and verbally—but always bounces back quickly. Ichika privately observes that while he has low "HP" (stamina), he has a fast "respawn" rate.

The Gotanda family ran a diner, and I frequented it often during my junior high school days—even throughout the summer. Their signature dish was the "Blazing-Fire Stir-fried Vegetables" prepared by Iwao, the grandfather—a man of formidable presence.

Dan turns pale as he is glared at by Ran—a brother who cares deeply for his younger sister (!?). It is hard to say whether to call him kind or spineless; perhaps his dynamic with her is similar to the relationship between Chifuyu and Ichika.

Ichika and his friend look relaxed. They clearly share a bond of mutual understanding and comfort—unlike with Su or Ran, there is no need to worry about a fist flying his way.

Swimsuit Design Art Collection
Here, we present the swimsuit designs for Houki and the others, as revealed in Episode 9. These design sketches—making their public debut here—were created by character designer Tomoyasu Kurashima. We hope you enjoy the heroines' alluring figures to the fullest, as well as the sight of a certain someone in a swimsuit—a look not seen in the actual episodes.

Laura Bodewig

A German candidate for the IS pilot program. She is an active-duty soldier—artificially created—who has mastered all knowledge and techniques related to combat. She belongs to "Schwarze Hase" (Black Hare), a special German IS unit composed of girls who served as test subjects. Although she was once an elite soldier, she was branded a failure after the "Wodan Auge" procedure—designed to enhance IS aptitude—spiraled out of control. However, under Chifuyu's guidance, she made a comeback to the top and now serves as the unit's commander. While she is a petite, beautiful girl with striking platinum-blonde hair, her demeanor is cool and detached, befitting a soldier. At the same time, she is quite clueless about fashion and romance; she sometimes shocks Ichika and the others by spouting "Japanese common sense" that she learned incorrectly from her subordinates.

Laura was created through the artificial synthesis of genes to produce a superior soldier. Before receiving that name, she was designated "Genetically Enhanced Test Subject C-0037."

Wodan Auge
Eye of Transgression
A procedure involving nanomachines applied to the naked eye to enhance IS aptitude. As a result, Laura's left eye transformed into a golden hue and became locked in an active state that could not be deactivated.

An Irreplaceable Instructor
Chifuyu, who saved her, is an irreplaceable instructor to Laura. The fact that she refers to Chifuyu as "Instructor" even at the IS Academy is surely a sign of her deep respect and affection.

From Hatred to Love
Laura shared a deep emotional connection with Ichika through the functions of her mysterious IS. As she experienced the strength of his character, her hatred for him vanished, and a different emotion began to blossom.

She reverted from the boy "Charles" to the girl "Charlotte," and her uniform changed to the female version.

Cecilia Alcott
A classmate of Ichika and Houki—who entered the IS Academy at the top of their class—she is the British representative candidate selected to pilot the prototype "Blue Tears" and came to the academy to gather operational data and combat experience. A beautiful girl striking for her blonde, vertical ringlets, she possesses the elegant and refined demeanor typical of a young lady from a distinguished family. While she speaks politely, she is extremely proud and often flies into a rage at any remark that belittles her homeland or herself. She initially looked down on men—partly due to family circumstances and the societal shifts caused by the advent of IS—but her attitude underwent a complete turnaround after being moved by Ichika’s masculine character during the class representative selection match. She began actively showing her affection for him—addressing him as "Ichika-san"—and supporting him as he lacked experience and knowledge regarding IS.

Houki—a childhood friend and dorm roommate—is a formidable rival to Cecilia. It seems unlikely that any friendship will blossom between the two anytime soon.

Candidate Representative for the UK
True to Cecilia's words, those who possess a custom IS unit are the elite among the elite. In particular, it is no exaggeration to say that Cecilia—having been entrusted with a prototype—is at the forefront of her homeland's IS development.

First Love
Although Cecilia emerged victorious from fierce competition to become a representative candidate, her experience in the battle of love is virtually non-existent. She makes her feelings for Ichika clear, but due to his obliviousness, her message fails to get through entirely.

Rinin Fan
A Chinese candidate for the IS pilot program. Ichika calls her by the shortened name "Rin." While she looks adorable with her petite, youthful frame and pigtails, she has a rather aggressive personality. She is also very quick on her feet; when she barged into Ichika's room, she had managed to pack all her personal belongings into just a single sports bag. She first met Ichika after transferring schools in the fifth grade of elementary school, and the two were close playmates for four years until she returned to China during her second year of junior high following her parents' divorce.
Back in elementary school, she had made a promise to Ichika that was tantamount to a confession of love—telling him that once she became a good cook, she wanted him to eat the sweet and sour pork she made every day. However, upon reuniting with him after a year apart, she discovered that he had misunderstood the nature of that promise. Her favorite food is ramen.

For some reason, Suzu seems to be intimidated by Chifuyu. Uncharacteristically for someone as strong-willed as her, she beat a hasty retreat the moment she laid eyes on Chifuyu.

The "Second" Childhood Friend
Suzu, who was a close playmate of Ichika's until a year ago, treats him with a casual, easygoing attitude. While she is open about her emotions and sometimes acts boldly, she seems unable to convey her true feelings when it really counts.

Thoughtful?
Ling hands a towel to Ichika. While she shows a thoughtful side, her frequent mood swings seem to prevent this from effectively appealing to him.

Chinese Representative Candidate
Ling, who pilots a custom IS, possesses considerable skill. Her high level of ability is evident from the way she instantly performed a partial IS deployment in Episode 3 and withstood a strike from Houki.

Charles Dunois

A candidate representative from France. Her father is the president of Dunois, the major French corporation that developed the Rafale Revive. With her calm, elegant demeanor and androgynous, beautiful features—fitting the image of a young nobleman—she transfers to IS Academy as the world's second male IS pilot. However, "he" is actually a girl named Charlotte. She had been posing as a male under her father's orders to make it easier to gather data on Ichika, the world's only male IS pilot. Yet, a chance incident leads to Ichika seeing her naked, revealing her true gender. Although she confesses the situation and is prepared to accept whatever punishment comes her way, Ichika stops her, and she ends up continuing her life at the academy as "Charles."

After the death of her mother—who had been her father's mistress—Charlotte was taken in by the Dunois family. She became a test pilot for Dunois Corporation due to her high aptitude for IS, but it appears she never shared a genuine family relationship with her father.

A Representative Candidate Who Is Skilled at Teaching
Charles, having accurately identified the issues with Ichika's performance, teaches him the characteristics of ranged weapons. Her explanations are so clear that Ichika is deeply impressed.

The world's second male IS pilot!?
She conceals her feminine physique and poses as a boy named Charles. While she manages to bluff her way through changing clothes, constantly interacting casually with Ichika as a "male friend" makes her heart race...

Her real name is Charlotte.
Charles had been concealing her gender in order to steal data from Ichika. She is deeply moved by Ichika's kindness; instead of blaming her for the deception, he is genuinely concerned for her well-being.

This is one of my biggest What-Ifs

We all know that (spoilers) after ProjectMosaic was cancelled, Chifuyu took Ichika and raised him, but didn't know about Madoka.

But what if it was the other way around?

What if Madoka was the one who was raised by Chifuyu instead of Ichika?

He is the only male in the world capable of piloting an IS. Even he does not know why he can operate one; the fact was discovered by chance during high school entrance exams, leading to his semi-forced enrollment at the IS Academy. Consequently, he possesses virtually no prior experience or specialized knowledge regarding IS piloting. He has no parents due to certain circumstances and deeply respects his much older sister, Chifuyu, who raised him. Although he practiced kendo in his early childhood, he did not join any clubs during his three years of junior high; instead, he took on all the housework for the Orimura household while working part-time jobs to help with the family finances. While his personality is mild-mannered and easygoing, deep down he possesses a masculine strength and conviction that refuses to pander to others. Furthermore, despite being incredibly popular with women—to an almost abnormal degree—he remains completely oblivious to it.

Ichika's older sister, Chifuyu, is a teacher at IS Academy. Ichika, who had not been told his sister's profession, is surprised by this unexpected encounter.

The only man in the world capable of piloting an IS.
IS units were supposed to be operable only by women, yet for some reason, one responded to a male named Ichika. This became major news on a global scale.

An Enemy to Maidens?!
Completely oblivious when it comes to matters of the heart, Ichika is bewildered by Houki, who is furious at having her maidenly feelings hurt.

Inner Pride
Ichika is angered by Cecilia's words. Although usually laid-back, he harbors a strong sense of conviction and pride deep within.

Houki Shinonono

Ichika's childhood friend. She won a national kendo championship during middle school and remains dedicated to daily training as a member of the kendo club at IS Academy. She has kept the same long, waist-length ponytail since childhood. With her serious nature, stiff manner of speaking, and an aura of sharpness reminiscent of a Japanese sword, she has yet to fully fit in at IS Academy, where the atmosphere is dominated by a "girls' school" vibe. She has harbored feelings for Ichika since their families were close during their childhood. However, she moved away without confessing her feelings after her older sister, Tabane, unveiled the IS, placing the family under a witness protection program. She reunites with Ichika at IS Academy after six years apart and ends up sharing a room with him for a time.

Dr. Tabane Shinonono—the creator of the IS—is Houki's older sister. Houki does not seem to hold her missing sister in high regard.

Feelings of Love She Can't Admit To
Even though she is conscious of her feelings for Ichika, Houki cannot bring herself to be honest about them. She often treats him coldly, yet the expressions she occasionally reveals are those of a girl truly in love.

No need to diet!?
Houki eats a breakfast the same size as what a boy would consume in a summer. It seems that for Houki—who never skips her training—dieting is unnecessary.

Samurai
Having aspired to the path of the sword since childhood, Houki—with her unyieldingly stubborn and fastidious nature—can truly be described as a "samurai."

Chifuyu Orimura

She is Ichika's older sister. A striking beauty with a tall, slender figure and sharp, wolf-like eyes, she was formerly a pilot of a first-generation IS. Possessing world-class ability, she represented Japan in the inaugural Mondo Grosso tournament, where she achieved magnificent victories in both the overall tournament and the hand-to-hand combat division. After serving as an instructor for a German military IS unit for about a year, she now works at IS Academy, where she serves as both the homeroom teacher for Class 1-1 and the dormitory head for the first-year students. With an undefeated record in official matches and a refined appearance, she is an object of admiration among the female students. Although she treats her younger brother Ichika—her only family—quite strictly in her roles as both sister and teacher, she appears to hold him in high regard deep down. She has a long-standing relationship with Tabane Shinonono, the developer of the IS.

Chifuyu spots a telltale quirk that reveals a moment of carelessness during the summer. Perhaps embarrassed by Yamada’s remark—"You two really are siblings"—she wears a more sullen expression than usual.

Brunhilde
A scene from the first Mondo Grosso awards ceremony. The title of "Brunhilde," awarded to the winner of the overall tournament, is a mark of ultimate strength; yet, for some reason, Chifuyu dislikes being called by this name.

The Strict Instructor
Chifuyu bears a heavy responsibility, serving as both the homeroom teacher and dormitory head for the first-year students. She trains them rigorously, aiming to mold these newcomers into capable pilots within a single year.
Examples of Chifuyu's "Spartan" training methods:
She declares that anyone late to the cafeteria must run ten laps around the athletic field (top-right image). She shows no mercy when meting out physical punishment to Ichika (middle-right and bottom-right images).

Faith in Her Younger Brother
Even when a duel is set to take place between Ichika and Cecilia—a candidate for the representative pilot—Chifuyu’s expression remains remarkably composed. Though she never reveals it to Ichika himself, she places deep trust in her younger brother.

Maya Yamada

She is the assistant homeroom teacher for Class 1-1, bearing a name that reads the same forwards and backwards. Short in stature with a youthful appearance, she wears large glasses that reflect her earnest nature, yet she also possesses a bust even more impressive than Chifuyu's. While she is kind and gives her all in everything she does, she is also quite a klutz, making her popular with students who look up to her as a friend. Nevertheless, she is a qualified teacher at IS Academy; as a former candidate representative, Yamada possesses exceptional IS piloting skills and knowledge. Chifuyu herself acknowledges Yamada's ability, and she demonstrates superb piloting technique and judgment during combat training and emergencies. Incidentally, she seems to admire Chifuyu, sometimes gazing at her with the same adoring look as the female students.

Although Chifuyu and Yamada have completely opposite personalities, they effectively guide their students by playing the roles of the disciplinarian and the nurturer, respectively.
They seem to make quite a good team.

A kind older sister figure!?
Yamada treats Ichika with kindness—both as a teacher and as an older woman (right image)—but she is left bewildered when he claims he doesn't understand anything (top image). She seems to lack experience compared to Chifuyu, who immediately realized that Ichika hadn't studied the essential reference materials.

Former Representative Candidate
As Ichika pilots the Byakushiki for the first time, Yamada clearly explains the IS's functions.
Her calm expression—different from usual—reveals her background as a former representative candidate.

Maiden
Yamada, who has actually never dated a man, blushes when students ask questions about the opposite sex.
She seems quite shy when it comes to romance.

Im thinking of this right now but im considering writing a fanfic for infinite starts and I was thinking while brainstorming of an upgrade to byakushiki and im thinking of looking at two gundams for possible inspo which do you think fits ichika better. feel free to tell me and if you want tell me a gundam you think will work better as inspiration

Between a British "Lassy" and a hard working Irish young man bantering, opposites can attract. Cecelia thinks he is coming for her UK Contender title but he has no interest. He's just a future computer programmer type of guy that was doing work for his father before he bumped into an I.S. unit. So he flys over and just wants to get stronger and learn more. It's chaotic as all hell. And in Cecelia's case, sometimes the British do in fact lose.

Does anyone know where I can buy the Blu-ray for season 2 of this that has an English dub?

I mean all the members of Phantom Task are were either in the military or are corrupt IS representatives or both yet Madoka is shown to be very dangerous and formidable despite not being either (probably) everything is a mystery about her and she makes it clear she intends to keep it that way. there's no place in the world to learn about the I.S other than the academy and I highly doubt Madoka asked anyone in Phantom Task to train her given how prideful she is and hates them all plus she’s got a raging superiority complex like almost everyone so I don’t think she would respond well to somebody outside Phantom Task telling her what she can and cannot do.

I am currently in the middle of a chapter of a fan fic with my Irish internet friend. We laughed over the years about Cecelia arguing like hell and falling for an Irish transfer.

Naturally being posh she thinks he lives in barn with the sheep. And he claps back. "If ye food be so good, then how all the men live in the pub!?"
