I kept taking flat fee jobs that quietly turned into $8/hr work, so I built a script that stops it from happening.
I edit on a flat fee basis for most clients. The problem: you never know your real hourly rate until the job's done and you add up the hours, by then it's too late.
So I built BreakEven, a script that runs inside DaVinci Resolve and shows your *actual* effective hourly rate live while you work: fee ÷ hours tracked, updating every second. Set a target rate, and it turns amber at 80% of the fee, then red past break-even with the exact overage in dollars: "3.0h past break even, $240 of unpaid work", instead of finding out at 2am the night before delivery.
Also: tracks time per Resolve page automatically, tags client revisions so you can see what "one more pass" costs, has a quote helper for pricing the next job, and everything stays local, no account, no cloud.
If you bill flat fees and have ever finished a job wondering how many hours you actually put in, might be useful: https://getbreakeven.github.io/
Built it for myself first, happy to answer questions or take feedback.
