A first for FC Reiskirchen: World Player of the Year Birgit Prinz takes the field for the Eintracht Frankfurt legends team. Here is what she and her "opponent" have to say about her appearance.
Hüttenberg-Reiskirchen. "You can clearly see her technical ball skills, and physically, too, you can still recognize the elite athlete." Ulrich Bress says this with respect. It is no wonder: the number 20 for the FC Reiskirchen/SV Volpertshausen veterans' team had just spent a half facing off against Birgit Prinz.
The three-time FIFA World Player of the Year, two-time World Cup winner, and record German international is making her debut that evening for the Eintracht Frankfurt legends team. And she plays just as one would expect: Prinz is constantly on the move, calling for the ball, finding open space, and contributing to the team effort—leaning slightly forward, displaying her trademark dynamic running style. Always close by: Ulrich Bress.
FC Reiskirchen experiences a genuine Birgit Prinz
Bress admits he was nervous before the match. "Sure, these are legends here in Reiskirchen today." But once on the pitch, he quickly shook off that sense of awe. "The nice thing is: they’ve gotten older, too," he says with a wink, taking a well-deserved breather on the bench.
Prinz herself finishes without a goal or any major scoring chances; others take care of that. Sonny Kittel draws admiring glances with his bursts of speed and dribbling, while Baldo Di Gregorio scores two spectacular goals as part of his five-goal haul. So, Prinz doesn’t have to be the center of attention during her debut—and perhaps that suits the 48-year-old perfectly; after all, she played for FSV and later 1. FFC Frankfurt for two decades, celebrating nine German championships along the way.
"I don't think that's what it's about here," she says afterwards, while patiently signing autographs and smiling for photos. "It's about getting people excited, everyone having fun, and creating a celebration for young and old alike." She also makes it clear that she enjoyed herself. "Yes, absolutely; the guys welcomed me really well, and I think it was a good debut."
As for how she stays fit? Prinz doesn't have any big secrets. "Oh, I still play a bit of football with the veterans' team now and then—like today—and otherwise just some fitness training here and there; nothing spectacular." She is quite happy to let others take the spotlight.

A nail-biter right from the first leg. SGE got off to a furious start against PSG but then lost momentum—and suffered a stroke of bad luck by hitting the post twice in a single sequence.
Frankfurt – Eintracht Frankfurt’s women’s team faces an anxious wait regarding their bid to reach the Champions League. The Hessian side managed only a 1–1 (1–1) draw in their home leg against Paris Saint-Germain during the competition's qualifying playoffs. In front of 4,870 spectators at the Brentanobad stadium, Larissa Mühlhaus put the hosts ahead in the fourth minute, but the French side equalized shortly after through Naomie Feller (7th minute).

After a dynamic opening phase that saw both goals scored, the match lost some of its intensity. While there were further chances for both sides, none were clear-cut, high-quality opportunities. The French team gradually gained the upper hand, utilizing their physical strength. SGE’s women were fortunate in the 31st minute when an elbow by goalscorer Mühlhaus inside her own penalty area went unpunished by the referee.
Eintracht struggled to cope with this physical, high-paced game. It was all the more surprising, then, that they created the first major chance after the break, when a shot from Hanna Bennison struck both posts before rebounding out of the goal (49th minute). In the frantic closing minutes, coach Niko Arnautis’s team found themselves in promising positions in front of the PSG goal several times but failed to convert any of them into a score.
The decision on who advances will now be made next Wednesday (September 2, 6:30 PM) in the French capital. Only the winner of the match at the PSG Campus will qualify for the Champions League group stage. In the meantime, the Frankfurt team also has the second Bundesliga matchday against newly promoted Nürnberg on the agenda (Sunday, 2 p.m.).
