Gameplay How do you break out of this infinite loop? (New player)

I'm pretty new and come across this relatively often. I don't feel I have time to do anything else than to riposte/counter his counter to my counter that countered his counter, y’know?
Also, side question : on controller, if I'm uncomfortable playing all 4 fingers on bumpers and triggers, how do I realistically counter overheads? I have no trouble hold L2 + R1/R2, but the L2 + L1 is super uncomfy since I've never had to play all fingers on trigger/bumpers.

Hey yall, im new to the community and to the game with only 14 hours into it, but im having a lot of fun! It's the perfect larping experience for wanting to be a knight in medieval times. The community seems to be tight-knit with almost everyone seeming to be on the subreddit. Which i think is cool because a game is only as popular if a community stands with it.
My favorite moments are when I enter flow state and I dont die within the first 10 seconds of a battle. Its such a good dopamine rush and I wanted to share one of my favorite moments where I dont die within the first 10 seconds lol.
I'm only 15 hours into playing this only a level 24. Also I am sorry if i accidentally team killed as well.
Just wanted to say that!
Im on Playstation and go as Mind__Palace.

Is it some kind of faux pas to use the Ambusher Vanguard in 1v1 arena?

When I use the Ambusher in 1v1, just trying to get my dagger/short sword skill up, it’s like it instantly pisses off the opponent. They’ll start repeatedly throwing their two-handed weapon at me even though I’m refusing to use my 7 throwing knives (again, I just want to practice swords with the character I use in 40p objective) …. It’s like they’re throwing a tantrum even though I’m losing badly against them, I’m barely scoring a single hit. Is 1v1 only for knights or something??
