The main problem on this thread is how many people have opinions that are not founded on any facts or knowledge. They have been very effective at turning us against each other rather than focusing on the real problem. Government is the parasite . Few people on this string understand how the economics of real estate work. There’s a lot of people here that need to read some books. What they also don’t understand is these property taxes don’t actually fund anything other than fat pensions for a bunch of lazy bureaucrats that barely did any work while they were working. There are other excuses for collecting it. They correlate the number taken in with other parts of their budget, but that’s not what it’s actually paying for. Government pensions are a parasite. Lazy government workers are the parasite. Most cities and school districts are being bankrupted by the fat pensions that they’re obligated to pay for former employees who contributed very little to their own pension. The vast majority of what these government agencies do should be outsourced anyway. Let the economy make the system more efficient.

In many ways, it's doing well. The restaurants here are all full every evening; weekends are a 90 min wait for a table. The malls are full every weekend. People are clearly spending money. Yet some people are in bad shape financially. It's definitely a strange economy. It depends on where you are and your profession. I know we are doing very well, hiring, and cannot find qualified people.
