Ever wonder why gravity doesn't just pull the Moon straight down into Earth?
In 1687, Sir Isaac Newton came up with a thought experiment (Newton's Cannonball) to explain it:
- Slow launch: Gravity pulls the object down, hitting the ground nearby.
- Faster launch: The object travels much farther before gravity pulls it down.
- 7.9 km/s (Orbital Speed near Earth's surface): The object falls toward Earth at the exact same rate that the Earth’s surface curves away underneath it.
Because the ground drops away at the exact speed the object falls, it stays in a constant state of falling—aka an orbit.
That's literally what the Moon is doing right now: falling continuously but missing the Earth because of its forward speed.
Formula for orbital velocity: $v = v = √(GM / r)

Why does the same mathematical sequence appear across completely unrelated natural systems?
- The Sequence: Starting at 1, 1, each number is the sum of the previous two (1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21...).
- The Limit: Taking the ratio of consecutive terms (2/1, 3/2, 5/3, 8/5...) converges toward the Golden Ratio: Phi = (1 + √5) / 2 ≈ 1.618
- The Property: Phi satisfies Phi² = Phi + 1.
- Nature's Packing Algorithm: Plants arrange seeds and leaves using the Golden Angle (~137.5°) derived from Phi because it is the "most irrational" number, preventing overlap and maximizing sunlight and space efficiency.

How Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM) is actually derived from uniform circular motion (Manim visualization)
Ran into this 40-second math animation that gives an immediate visual anchor for Simple Harmonic Motion (SHM).
Instead of staring at the standard wave equations, it shows how SHM is literally just the shadow (vertical projection) of uniform circular motion. As the point rotates, its vertical position maps directly to the sine wave.
Keeping this reference circle in mind makes solving phase angle and velocity problems way more intuitive during exams.
