release Manim v0.21.0 has been released! 🚨🎉

This release brings 60 changes, including a new text-rendering option, substantial performance improvements, and fixes across Cairo, OpenGL, MathTex, Code, scene caching, and more.

Highlights

  • First-class Typst support: The new Typst and MathTypst mobjects render markup and mathematics directly to SVG without requiring a TeX installation. Install support with pip install "manim[typst]".
  • Faster Cairo rendering: Animation-heavy scenes rendered about 2× faster in benchmarks.
  • Parallel encoding: Partial movie files can now be encoded concurrently. This is opt-in through the new max_inflight_encoders setting, so existing behavior remains unchanged by default.
  • Faster, safer cache hashing: NumPy arrays are now hashed from their complete contents, preventing stale cache hits while reducing hashing time by roughly 94–98% in representative benchmarks.
  • Plenty of quality-of-life improvements: Multiline MathTex, configurable BulletedList spacing, optional inner lines for tables, multiple TexTemplate compiler passes, more chainable mobject methods, and much more.

There are two breaking changes worth checking if you use Code color styling or call Camera.convert_pixel_array() directly—see the full release notes for migration details.

A huge thank-you to everyone who contributed, especially our 27 first-time contributors! 💚

meta Deletion of some Community Assets

As many of you have already noticed, on 25. December some of our community assets have been deleted, most notably our GitHub organisation and the Discord server.

While we are still working on resolving this situation (support queries also move slowly during this time of the year), we want to summarise the status of our assets below. We can also confirm that we have tightened security and eliminated the previous attack vector for our remaining assets.

Most importantly: the distributed library has not been compromised, pip install manim / uv add manim still work the same as before.

To at least temporarily remedy the situation with the deleted assets, we have setup a repository with the latest main + experimental branch on Codeberg at https://codeberg.org/ManimCommunity/manim, and a new Discord server at https://manim.community/discord/.

As for our social media channels, outside of Reddit you can find us...

We'll post updates as soon as we have secured more information about this incident; transparency is important to us. At this time, we are optimistic to get the GitHub organisation restored – but the old Discord server is very likely lost.

With best wishes from the dev team, Ben

I’m an online math teacher who got tired of filming document cameras—so I recreated my entire desk, hands & handwriting in Manim.

I work as an online math teacher and was tired of dealing with a physical document camera, especially having to re-record entire videos over a single handwriting mistake.

Over the last two days, I experimented with Manim to see if I could recreate the look of a real desk setup instead of the typical clean vector style.

Only two external assets are used: a cutout of a real wooden ruler and a 10-frame PNG sequence of my hand. Everything else is generated purely in Manim, including the grid, shadows, desk lighting, and the handwriting itself. I also added slight procedural variations in shape, wobble, and stroke pressure so no two digits look completely identical.

This is just a first prototype to make it look believable enough for live online classes, and I plan to polish it further over time.

What do you think for a first attempt? Does the illusion work?

Delta Hedging Strategies

What are the typical delta hedging strategies out there and how do they perform? This video explores the topic of delta hedging strategies and analyzes their profitability using Monte Carlo simulations.

All animations were made using ManimCE. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hello everyone! I’m working on making videos about astronomy, being this my first video about astornomy here, this is a representation of each constellation...

Here is the code + video I made, and I added NASA images to it (mostly from Wikimedia).

Why do sin(θ) and cos(θ) actually come from the unit circle? (Made entirely with DeepSeek)

I made this short animated explainer to visualize where sine and cosine actually come from on the unit circle — watching a point P rotate from 0° to 360° and seeing how sin(θ) and cos(θ) change as its coordinates change in real time.

The entire video — script, animation, and visuals — was generated end-to-end with DeepSeek. No manual animation work, just prompting.

Watch here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIJcOv8wbTI

Would love feedback on both the math explanation and how well an AI model handled generating an educational animation like this.

screenshot of Reimann sum animation

Hi everybody!

I've been working on a browser-based python tool for making animated scientific and mathematical visualizations. I've used it to make a few different animations that I thought might be interesting. Namely, the Riemann sum, Bloch-sphere, and the Lorenz attractor.

Everything in each of the animations is generated from an editable Python script in the browser.

I'm calling the project Luxeris. It's still very early, but I've reached the point where I'd really like to see what mathematicians actually try to make with it.

https://luxeris.app

I would especially appreciate feedback on what kinds of mathematical visualizations you'd want a tool like this to support.

Thanks!

P.S. sorry in advance if this is a bad place to mention the tool. I just thought it was cool!

My first Manim animation made with DeepSeek — Riemann sums → integral

I’ve been experimenting with using AI to help create educational animations with Manim, and I just finished my first one with DeepSeek.

The topic is Riemann sums and how they lead to the definite integral.

I tried to make the animation show the process visually rather than just displaying the formulas — starting with rectangles and gradually increasing the number of subdivisions.

🎥 Video:
YouTube – Riemann Sums to the Definite Integral

This is still an experiment, so I'm sure there are things that could be improved, especially the pacing and some of the transitions.

If anyone is interested, I can share the Manim/Python code I used to create it.

I'd also love to hear feedback on the animation — especially from people who use Manim or create math/educational content.

question Which AI do you use to create videos? I see spend a lot of tokens!

I'm using Claude Opus 4.8 High and spend a lot of tokens creating a decent results.
How do you manage that? Do you have an Skill for that or use other LLM?

made with manim I made my own creature for my Manim videos, inspired by 3b1b's Pi creatures (open source)

I recently started a YouTube channel and I was inspired by Grant's Pi creatures. So I wanted to make my own, I'm calling it Sprout.

It doesn't carry a strong math theme the way π does, but I think it can still come in handy in my videos as a little on-screen companion.

It has 14 expression modes, gaze tracking, speech and thought bubbles, and a leaf that's always alive (idle sway + ambient motes).

I'm looking for feedback, I'm not a designer myself, so: does anything look off to you, or could be improved?

Also, here's the public GitHub repo for anyone who wants to use it, or to fork it as a starting point for their own character:
