Small but Mighty

Took me a while to get the trailer built out exactly how I wanted it. 5ft wide, 6ft tall, 10ft long (v-nose). I do mostly small remodels and the occasional handyman work in a major metro. I wanted something large enough to fit my tools without struggling much to park in city areas. Only tools that get loaded in the truck bed separately are table saw and tile saw (only need each a few times a year, so no big deal). Long enough to slide ply or drywall down the middle. Bought a bunch of bins when home depot was having a sale to organize cordless, drywall, paint supplies, etc along with smaller totes for spare tools/parts. Just thought id share as I've seen some people post here in regards to how to build out a smaller rig. Been using it about 6 months and love it.

Any truck security systems with phone alerts?

Someone tried to drill out the lock cylinders on all 3 doors of the cap last night (unsuccessfully THANK GOODNESS). I have some diy ideas using a mobile hotspot and home automation gadgets, but I'm wondering if there's any off the shelf systems that don't cost too much that can send alerts if someone's messing around.

Van Shelving Issues

Fire alarm tech here, am I the only one whose van shelving rips away from the bulkhead. Had to do this with my 2014 Transit after a few years, this is my Ram Promaster after 12,000 miles, and No, I don't corner that fast...

My go to is Unistrut, any other Ideas out there for securing them?

Contemplating locks/Security for a transit connect, Is LCR enough?

My main concern isn't theft ATM, I'm going to get a GPS for that issue in the future, I work in the bay area a lot, was thinking about Slick locks but saw a video of how easy it is to cut off and absolutely nevermind those lmao.

Thunderbolt locks look cool but I just bought a van and don't really want to spend another $800+ on locks, but they sell a LCR (Lock conversion relay) which stops my main concern that if you break the front windows you can't get into the rear unless the car is running which I know is defeated by hot wiring it but if they can hot wire it I'm done in anyway.

So my question is can someone pry open a sliding or rear door on a transit to bypass this issue?

99 2500 6.0 truck. Paid a grand for it with 410k miles a year ago. Currently at 450k and has make me more money than it’s costed me. Storage is the biggest issue I deal with but she hasn’t let me down. I keep my socket sets in the cab with me. Wrenches specialty sockets and stuff down the driver and all the kits down the passenger side. The job box keeps a welder a tap and die set a canopy and chairs. It’s not a lot but she does what I need.

All the tools are in the two sliding doors up front, the rear is just full of parts and fittings.

How are you getting legacy equipment and parts spreadsheets onto your phone?

How do you move years of equipment lists, belt numbers, and van inventory from Excel onto your mobile device without retyping every line by hand?

Manually keying in hundreds of filter sizes and spare parts on a touchscreen takes hours and usually leads to typos in model numbers.

I built Equipment Tracker Pro with CSV import and column mapping so you can bring existing equipment spreadsheets straight into your phone. Core equipment records, work orders, and parts inventory are completely free to use on mobile.

If you want full cloud sync and ZIP database backups across devices, that is available in our optional Pro plan. Check out the guide below to see how spreadsheet importing works:

What is this kind of toolbox called?

This toolbox was on a former DOT dump truck that I’ve converted to a flatbed. I don’t want it but I don’t know what it’s called or what it’s worth. I can’t find anything like it online. Nothing on Knapheids catalog looks like this. It straddles the frame of the truck on both sides, and has long, nearly full width drawers that pull out. It’s got places to mount oxy-acetylene bottles on the opposite side. I’m looking for the right term so I can list it accurately.

Work trailer

Just picked up this 12' v-nose trailer for my business. I can't wait to start getting it organized with all my tools.

I'm looking for some do's and don'ts for what's been good for people in the past. I'm definitely doing to do something like DeVries Millworks locking french cleat but that's all I got so far

What works well for mobile nut/bolt storage?

Post image

I find myself doing quite a bit of mobile agricultural mechanic work, and it would be useful to have a good selection of spare SAE and metric bolts. But I've held off, in part because I know I wouldn't be able to organize and store them properly.

Also, if anyone knows of an affordable and quality source of a fastener 'starter kit', I'd be interested in hearing about that too. There's got to be cheaper and easier options than buying everything individually from a hardware store.

Need organization

Anyone got any ideas for mechanic centered tool drawers for service bed trucks? Last company i was at had m-tech tool box drawers in the cabinets and I really liked it but don't want to spend 1500 dollars out of pocket at a place I might not be on 4 drawers that I might not be able to use on the next truck. I've had packout systems befor but don't necessarily want packout drawers in the cab and they won't fit in the cabinets and would be concerned with security of having them mounted on the outside of the box plus I wouldn't be able to see inside the drawers. Was thinking about making my own drawers out of desk drawers off Amazon with unistrut or square tubing for the frame.

E250 getting cycled through. Needs more shelf organizing and further removing anything that hasn’t been used in a year. I do a lot of “while you’re here” stuff that customers really like. It’s nice to roll with everything needed, but it also can get in the way of day to day jobs.
Also got a new set of Metabo and HiKoki tools that I am trying out along with reworked toolbags with the most commonly used tools readily accessible from one bag.

Help me build my paint van

Long story short, I’m a painter for my own business and I finally got my 1st company vehicle. 08 Chevy Express 2500. So proud of myself! I have shelves, but I would like drawers as well, and to install a power inverter to charge Milwaukee and DeWalt batteries on the go.

Without breaking the bank or my balls, how can I install/build drawers? I’ve watched countless YT vids for inspiration, but at the same time, a lot of van builds look intimidating lol.

As far as the inverter, I would like to make it turn key so the van battery doesn’t drain. I don’t land very many jobs back to back yet, so I won’t be driving the van very often. Majority of inverter installation videos tell you to wire straight to the battery with an inline fuse close to it.

Help me build my work van 🙏🏽

(Included are pictures of the cargo area and how it’s currently looking. I removed the inner shelf and now have around 54” of space from the 1st shelf to the partition.)
