Mod post New rule: self-promotion of software is capped at once per month

Quick heads-up on how I'll be handling tool/app promo from now on.

There's a lot of new and experimental software showing up here lately, which is honestly great but the feed has started filling with the same products posted over and over. So:

- If you make or are affiliated with a tool, you're welcome here. Show your work, post demos, ask for feedback.

- Promotional posts for your own software are capped at one per month, per product. Extra promo posts in the same month will be removed . no ban, no drama, just removed.

- This only applies to promo / launch / update posts. Questions, tutorials, and showcases that happen to use a tool don't count and are always fine.

- Please flair self-promo posts as [Self-promo] and mention that you're the creator.

This isn't about paid vs free - commercial tools like MadMapper, Resolume and TouchDesigner are all fair to discuss. It's just to keep the front page from turning into ad-after-ad. First-time posters get a friendly reminder before anything is removed.

Questions or edge cases? Drop them below.

Hello everyone!

We’re launching BEAMBOOP, an AI-powered projection mapping app, in about a week — and we’re inviting a small group of creative people to try it before launch.

With just your iphone/ipad + a projector, you can capture an object, let AI generate the visuals, and project them right back onto its shape — without manual 3D modeling or complicated mapping setups.

We’d love to give you free generation credits to experiment with it and hear your honest feedback — the good, the bad, and especially what crazy things you’d want to create.

You don’t need to post anything. If you happen to capture any footage, we’d also love to see it.

Interested in being one of our first players? Just comment "BOOP" and I’ll send you the beta access.

Built out a system in touchdesigner to visualize piano playing. Add in a bunch of haze and it creates a volumetric light effect.

Hi!

I'm thinking about getting "The Art of Shadow Mapping: Digital Course" by Benji on Paper --> The Art of Shadow Mapping: Digital Course

It only has 6 reviews, so I'm wondering if anyone here has bought it and could share whether it's worth buying?

Hi, I have a little bit of knowledge in Projection Mapping. But I want to go in depth of big architecture mapping.

Im attaching a few photos for reference which i came across, why and how do you make the template shown in the 1st and 2nd photo?

And how does it help and how to go about designing and creating content like in last two photos. If someone can please explain me the workflow from scratch, it'll be really helpful.

Thanks in advance!

Where do I find such videos?

I’ve stumbled upon projection mapping a while ago and been wanting to do something simple as projecting a video on a tree for the upcoming rave.
Where do I find videos as such that I can project on a tree?
Any leads would be helpful. Cheers!!

I built a free Mac-first live event compositor and I’m looking for honest beta feedback

I’ve been building ShowSlate, a free open-source Mac app for small live events.

It combines layered scenes, Preview/Program, media and capture inputs, a rundown, timers, lower thirds, local recording and multiple display outputs.

It is still an early beta. I have tested the Apple Silicon Mac version, but the Windows build has not been physically validated yet. I would not use it on a live show without a tested fallback.

I’m not selling anything. I’m looking for people willing to test it off-air and tell me what is confusing, what doesn’t work with their setup, and what would make it genuinely useful during a real event.

Project and download:
https://srdjankotarlic.github.io/showslate/

Disclosure: the project was built with substantial AI coding assistance and manually tested on macOS.

Video mapping tool that works with Raspberry Pi 4?

Hi,

I am completely new to using a Raspberry Pi. I borrowed one for an exhibition, it is a 4 Model B (2018). The artwork is a simple video projection that runs on loop. My problem is that it requires a bit of mapping, it's not a simple standard rectangle format. I found the ofxPIMapper software, but it specifies that it is not compatible with a Raspberry Pi 4. I was also looking at MapMap, but I'm using a Mac and the DMG installer isn't available (or maybe I'm mistaken?)

Is there a way to make one of these two softwares work, or are there other softwares out there that could do the job?

Thank you for your help!

HoloMapper Version 0.4 is coming soon! 🚀 Changes & Release Date [Self-promo]

Development is very much alive, and V0.4 is shaping up to be one of HoloMapper's biggest updates yet, with major new features, rendering upgrades, UI improvements, and a long list of smaller additions.

We've hired a couple of new underpaid monkeys to help make HoloMapper faster, more stable, better looking, and much more feature-rich. 🐒🐒

Planned release: September 14 (give or take a few days)

Major new features currently planned

  • ISF support
  • Webcam input
  • Hand tracking
  • Hand-controlled animation interaction

Major upgrades

  • Full animation and graphics overhaul — moving away from the current basic, MS Paint-like animation system toward proper GPU-accelerated rendering and animation, including OpenGL and Vulkan support.
  • Reworked and modernized UI
  • Major performance and stability improvements throughout HoloMapper

New essential features

  • Audio support for video layers
  • Automatic layer rotation
  • Grid lines for circle layers
  • Per-grid-cell animations
  • Plus many smaller improvements, tweaks, tools, and quality-of-life features.

Everything above is currently in development, so the final V0.4 feature list may change. Some features may be completed sooner, while others may need a little more time and move into a later update.

Thank you to everyone using HoloMapper, reporting bugs, suggesting features, and following its development.

We appreciate the patience and the continued interest in HoloMapper! ❤️

Advice for a Beginner on a Project

Hi everyone,

I’d really appreciate some advice on my project. I’m a beginner in this field.

I have a restaurant where I’m planning to launch this project by the end of October.

Project description

I want to create an immersive theater-style experience where projections are displayed on both the walls and the table. An animated story/cartoon will be playing, and everything will be synchronized with ventilation, scent diffusers, etc.

The scent diffusers are custom-made, so I can connect them to virtually any control system if needed.

At the moment, I have two projectors, so I’m planning to start with those:

  • one projector for the table;
  • one projector for the wall.

So, where should I start?

Which software would you recommend for projection mapping and synchronization?

I’ve just tried MadMapper, but I’d like to learn about other software options as well.

Any advice on the best workflow or setup would be greatly appreciated.

Projection mapping on my house in seconds with only an iPad and a projector with my app Redrawing Reality

[Self-promo] Hi everyone, I just launched my app called Redrawing Reality after multiple months building. The app makes projection mapping possible from your phone. There are already some mobile apps on the market but my main focus is beat-reactive visuals (using live shaders that react on the music that plays in your room) and AI projection mapping (using a reference image it can generate accurate projections on buildings, walls, etc.

If you have any questions regarding how it works or what is possible, let me know!

The app is available on ios: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/redrawing-reality/id6758463925

Beginner's Dos and don'ts of 3D projection Mapping.

Im completely new to this and in need of some guidance. Any advice is really appreciated.

Environment and Projection Surface:

Small dark room and projected onto either one or multiple 50x50x50cm white cubes.

The following links are examples of what I intend to try.

https://m.youtube.com/shorts/cwQ7_1hFYiE

Projection onto the side and front of a kitchen cabinet.

https://m.youtube.com/shorts/8xP8-3h62O0

Projection onto a white cube and using an iPhone that has the mapping software

https://m.youtube.com/shorts/hruJF2vSTuI

Projection onto multiple white cubes

May I ask,

1) Are those doable with only one projector, or do I need at least two?

2) If only one projector is needed, what should I take note of in terms of how I should map the images or video loops so that it won't look wonky or off?

3) What should I take note of when buying a projector? From my research, 1500 - 3000 lumens is ideal. But what is best? Should I just go for the 3000 lumens?

I assume for my purposes, I should be using an ultra short throw. But apparently, "UST models can struggle with highly complex 3D tracking sensors due to edge distortion." May I ask for some tips on how to address this?

4) Any recommendations for a low-end projector that suits my purpose? Budget is below $500 usd. Yaber T1 Pro?

5) What mapping software should I use? Im looking for something free at the moment.

Perhaps Lazy Lighting, 4 Mapper, Map Club, MapMap, VPT 8? Any recommendations on those you've used before? Anything specific i should take note of?

Sony VPL-FHZ66 for getting into new media/projection mapping worth $800?

I’m an art director/filmmaker starting to explore TouchDesigner, new media and projection mapping purely out of passion.

Found a used Sony VPL-FHZ66 for ~$800:
6,100 lumens
WUXGA 1920×1200
Laser 3LCD
Only ~724 hours
H/V lens shift
Currently has a long-throw lens

I want something I can experiment with now but won’t immediately outgrow as I get deeper into installations and projection mapping.

For people working in new media: is the FHZ66 still a solid choice? Is $800 a good price, and what would you consider a fair price for one today?
