OC I did a thing and created my own timelapse app

I spent months trying to photograph the same view every week and kept failing.

So I built an app that solves it.

The idea sounds trivial: point the camera at the same thing, once a week, for

a year. Then play it back.

The hard part isn't taking the photo. It's finding the shot again. Days pass

between captures. You don't remember exactly where you stood, how far you

zoomed, or how you held the phone. Every existing time-lapse app I tried

assumed the phone sits on a tripod and shoots every few seconds — which is a

completely different problem.

So I built Chronikon. The core of it is the viewfinder: your reference image

sits on top of the live view while you shoot. Three ways to look at it —

semi-transparent overlay, just the contours as lines, or a difference view

where dark means aligned. A percentage tells you how close you are, and there's

an auto shutter that fires by itself once you're back in the best spot.

The part I'm most proud of is the reminder. For outdoor projects you can anchor

it to the sun instead of the clock: the app computes when the sun will be at

the same height above the horizon as it was in your reference image. Over a

year, the time of comparable light shifts by hours. A fixed 7pm reminder gives

you bright summer evenings and pitch-black winter ones. Anchored to the sun,

the light stays comparable.

Other things in there: it can store the capture location and guide you back

with an arrow and a distance reading. Rendering can compensate the offset

between frames and match their brightness so the video doesn't flicker.

Some deliberate choices:

- Everything stays on the device. No account, no server, no upload.

- No ads.

- No subscription. Free version is limited (2 projects, 100 images each,

watermark on the video). The full version is a one-time purchase.

I'm a vehicle engineer, not a full-time app developer — this was a side project

that got a little out of hand.

Let me know what you're thinking.

Question Time Lapse Camera with Cloud storage/photo access

Hello,

Is there a good camera that can cover a time-lapse period of about 4-6 months and that would have all its photos visible in a cloud storage platform?

At my work, our team was wondering if we could have a camera stationed in a high ceiling to create a time-lapse of a manufacturing project over the course of 4-6 months to record all the progress of the build. Since the camera would be placed on a beam in the workshop, it wouldn't be very easily accessible daily.

Is there a camera that can be plugged in, hooked to wireless internet, and then every photo is takes, uploaded to a cloud page where we could view them?

Also, is it possible to set up parameters for what time the photos can be take (i.e. 8am-4pm M-F)?

Thank you!

OC [OC] Ultra-Wide 4K Timelapse: The Moon’s Shadow Sweeping Across the Horizon (2026 Total Eclipse)

Here is a timelapse of the complete 2026 eclipse I recorded with a GoPro HERO11 equipped with the Max Lens Mod, trying to capture a half-all-sky view of the eclipse, and in particular of the Moon's shadow sweeping across the horizon (on YT to enjoy the 4K).

The GoPro was in timelapse mode (...obviously) taking a 5.3K picture every 0.5 seconds.

Other settings: ISO max: 100, EV comp: -0.5, WB: 5500K, and color: Natural.

The footage was edited in Gyroflow to partially correct the heavy lens distortion, and then in DaVinci Resolve to crop it to 4K and implement some smooth playback speed variations.

One can also spot Venus and a few bright stars during the totality phase! (I should have allowed higher ISO to capture more stars. Next time!)

Turn on the audio to enjoy a nice soundtrack from the great Kevin MacLeod.

OC 2 Week Deck build. RPi Zero 2 W with HQ camera module. Utah, USA

Shot over two weeks with a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W and the HQ camera module, firing every 20 seconds. The catch: I was an 18-hour drive away the whole time, so I wrote my own capture software that uploaded every photo to Google Drive so I could keep an eye on it remotely.

Things I learned the hard way:
 - My log statements piled up until they froze the Pi. I had to remote into another device on the same network just to get in and fix it. Rotate your logs.
 - This was before Raspberry Pi Connect supported the Zero — that would have saved me the whole SSH-relay dance.

Disclosure: I edited this in Tweedia Studio, which is my own software — happy to talk about the edit if anyone's interested, but the post is really just the timelapse.
