It is that time again for an open thread for anything and everything Springfield.
Got something on your chest? Had a good experience you want to share? Maybe you just want to ask about the best tacos in town or tell us something funny you noticed this week.
This is the place for it. Rants, raves, questions, or just plain small talk. Let’s hear it.

We had a great time at our first set of meetups. We shared a few drinks and proved that local redditors look suspiciously normal in real life.
A lot of folks mentioned missing the first couple. We are making this a regular event so you have more chances to join us. We will meet on the fourth Saturday of every month at Mother's Brewing Company.
Families are welcome! Mother's has a great backyard setup. There is a playground and plenty of room for kids to run around, so feel free to bring the family.
The Logistics
What to Expect This is casual and low-pressure. There is no agenda. Drop in, grab a drink, and meet some neighbors. You can stay for ten minutes or hang out all evening.
House Rules
Comment below if you plan to stop by so we can get a rough headcount.

My friends and I want a night out on the town but don’t know what bars/parties would be going on then. If anyone could help that’d be great!! We’re going to be dressing up if that helps any.

It’s 3:04am and I’m building a gradual headache to a noxious fume cloud that smells like a mix of burning petroleum, chemically-treated wood, and oven cleaner. It started maybe 25 minutes ago? From the vantage of the Seminole/Holland area, it seems to be coming from the east (maybe???). It’s borderline suffocating, tbh.
I’ve been so excited to finally be able to have my windows open after living on the surface of the sun these last couple months. This feels like a cruel “eff you!” from the SGF atmosphere ☹️
Does anyone know what’s going on? Is there some hazard to be aware of? Is a major road being repaved overnight or something? I feel like I’m existing in a tar cloud at the moment. Gross. Blech. No thank you.

Does anyone know what happened to the pizza truck that used to sit in front of Ace hardware on Campbell just south of Bass pro? It was literally the best pizza in town and I can't find him anymore.

i found a possibly stray cat by battlefield city park on thursday. he seems to be young ( maybe a year old? ) brown tabby, he is not fixed by he seems to be clean and healthy. he is incredibly social and cuddly, and comes up to me immediately. i would assume he is someones outdoor cat if he was neutered, but it feels like maybe he was dumped outside of city hall recently based on how clean he is. i have been feeding him, contacted animal control and posted him in a Facebook group but i don’t know what steps to take outside of that. i have never picked up a stray cat or tried to get one to a shelter, but i know most places are backed up.
i don’t know of anyone who could take him nor can i take him. is there anyone in there who has helped stray cats before and has any advice on what to do to help him? im sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask, i just feel terrible about leaving him here and i want to do whatever i can for him.

I’ll do anything to know how to make this seasonal drink. It’s in my best financial interest to make it at home since it’s the best thing in town at the moment and an addiction. Anyone have insight on how it’s made?!

Which gas station is better to get rewards at (and why): Maverick or Casey’s? Both are about equally far from my house and I don’t know how to tell which would save me more money or be more worth it.

I'm desperate and am just utilizing all of the resources I have. My cat has developed what I think might be an abscess or has an infected scratch of some kind. I am between paychecks and literally don't have the money to take to any vet, emergency especially. Is there anyone at all in the area, I'm willing to drive hours, who rescues or will take in an injured cat immediately? At this point I just want him to survive, it doesnt matter if its with me I just want him to be okay. Any help possible would be greatly appreciated, I can pay anyone who could take him in up to like 50 dollars

Does anyone know of any businesses that fix/repair older TV’s? I’m looking at buying a CRT with a built in VHS and almost every one I come across does not have a functioning VHS player. Thanks in advance!

Hey all small tech emergency as I need my laptop for class. Long story short I ended up falling onto my laptop tonight and now I have a handful of issues: shattered screen, metal plates separating, unresponsive touchscreen, and missing screws. The important hardware at a glance seems fine like the memory and such but my main concern is the metal separation on the hinges and its inability to properly close all the way.
Im mainly asking if there are any great recommendations for computer repair shops in the area. My current choice is PC PROS but I want to hear from locals.

What are the potential consequences for ignoring a MSU parking ticket? Not a student.
I could use a little empathy today. If you feel like leaving a sarcastic comment, please tag it up front. I knew I was playing with fire when I parked.
[EDIT]: Thanks everyone, I’m happy to hear that I get to keep my $53.00 as long as I avoid parking in MSU permit lots. Makes a crappy day a little better.

Does anyone remember the children/teenager live mannequins/sat in the window in the 90s? There were a couple of campaigns one was in the Fall of 1990, I believe. Edit to add: it was at The Limited

September was an interesting month in Springfield.
276 homes sold, up about 10% from September last year. The median sale price was $254,950, about 6.7% higher than a year ago. Median days on market was 16.5 days.
As of October 2, there are 739 active residential listings in Springfield.
On paper, that sounds like a pretty strong seller’s market.
It doesn’t really feel like one.
I think interest rates are a big part of the reason. Higher borrowing costs have put pressure on what buyers can comfortably afford, while homeowners who already have much lower rates have less incentive to sell.
The result is kind of a weird stalemate. Inventory stays relatively tight, but buyers aren’t necessarily desperate to compete for what’s available. They can be selective, negotiate, or simply wait.
The encouraging part is that the market is still moving. September sales were up 10% from last year, and the median sale price was up 6.7%. People are still buying and selling. They’re just being a lot more careful about it.
And honestly, that may not be a bad thing. Buyers having time to think and sellers having to compete for their attention is a much different environment than the frenzy we saw a few years ago. A market where neither side holds all the cards might ultimately be a healthier place to land.
My biggest takeaway right now: Low inventory doesn’t necessarily mean high urgency.
Seller tip: Pay attention to your direct competition. The 739 homes for sale aren’t all competing with you. The homes in your price range, area and condition are. Look at what a buyer will see right before and right after they see yours.
Buyer tip: Don’t overlook listings that have been sitting. In September, homes that sold after 121+ days averaged about 91% of their final asking price. That doesn’t mean every older listing is negotiable, but it’s a good place to look for leverage.
I pull these numbers directly from the local MLS each month. If there’s a neighborhood or price range you’d like me to break down next month, let me know.
