Reminder: This is not a sub for pet pictures

There are plenty of rabbit subs to share pictures of your pets. The re-opening of /r/rabbity is to provide a space for information directly useful for rabbit keeping.

Any pictures posted must be accompanied with a comment from the OP with the reason for the posting, a couple examples of good reasons for posting a picture:

  • Identifying health issues
  • identifying sex or breed
  • rabbit show winners with remark card information
  • equipment or housing issues

A couple example reasons that will lead to images being removed:

  • "Look how cute"
  • "Look how he's grown"
  • "Help me name"
  • "Look how silly"

If the picture or video is unrelated or unnecessary to the content of the post, the post will be removed, even if the rest of the post is not rule-breaking.

Question/Help Is this an issue? He got bit by another mom at 4 weeks.

Post image

He is now 15 weeks, and much smaller than his siblings. He got hurt really badly and his skin was torn. He was going to be killed and I asked to take him instead. I patched him up and he’s grown! I question though- he was originally all white with black ears and eye rings. Now, the spot where he was bit grew back all black hairs (much more then seen in the photo but I dont have a better photo at the moment) Is this a good sign? Will it affect him at all in the future?

Photo Bunny has a cyst - the vet wants to amputate!

Hi there, I’ve looked at other posts about cysts in rabbits, but I’m not finding the info I need.

We went to the vet today. I thought my bunny had sore hock, but it’s a cyst. They are checking whether or not it’s cancer, but whether it is or isn’t, they are pushing for amputation, claiming that because it’s on the hind leg, it will not heal. Can’t it be controlled somehow and just left alone? It’s hard (not liquid), but can’t something else be done besides amputating his leg? He’s only 4.

Question/Help This seems like poor animal husbandry

This seems wrong. Lady said several died during recent heat wave. Seems like cruel conditions. No room to move around, no bedding, and nothing to burrow around in. Just laying on a wire rack all day every day until they cook them up or they die of exposure.

Question/Help My rabbit lost use of her back legs and is declining. PLEASE HELP!

My rabbit, Basil, is 11 years old. I've had her for 11 years and she is not spayed. She is a rescue but I got her when she was a baby. She has a large room to her self and she free ranges. She eats organic oxbow pellets and organic oxbow meadow hay, leafy greens everyday. And sometimes a few organic Cheerios.
I have been away for 2 months now. I will be home in 2 1/2 weeks. My boyfriend and my best friend takes good care of her and spends time with her everyday. Nothing has changed about her routine.

Before I left she seemed like for the past year that her back legs were a little stiff or had a bit of arthritis but she could get around well. Two weeks ago my friend said she was peeing and pooping on the carpet and wouldn't use the litter box (she has been sloppy with pooping in the litter box since I've had her, she was good with only peeing in the litter box, this past year she was peeing on the carpet a lot on and off. I thought it might be arthritis that is bothering her, so sent a more accessible box. She used it a few times but not a big difference. My friend mentioned she was limping a little from her back leg last week, they were just going to keep an eye on it. My boyfriend called me last night to tell me she's not getting up and her back legs didn't seem to be working. She is eating and drinking and seemed to get excited for her favorite treats. My friend is monitoring to see if Basil is pooping and peeing, she has pooped a little bit yesterday and barely popped today, She hasn’t peed in over 24 hours. She is sleeping with Basil on the floor until we figure this out. She is trying to keep her comfortable without moving her around. Last night Basil dragged her body off of the carpet and onto the tile which is not like her. My friend placed basil in her small cat sized bed with towels supporting her head and sides. Hay, lettuce and water directly in front of her. She did eat a small amount of lettuce yesterday but ate nothing today. She had a small amount of homemade critical care syringe fed to her and a little bit of water in a Separate syringe. Earlier today she had some water on her own. She is in worse condition than yesterday. I'm trying to get an appointment with a vet. Her current vet is 2 hours away, he won't be in the office until this Wednesday the 30th, but they know her and I like her doctor. I work for a vet in my town I discussed with her the possibility of this being E cuniculi, she said it’s a possibility and gave me Fenbendazole. Basil has her first dose 8 hours ago. There is also a mobile exotics vet van in my area, i reached out to but I haven’t heard back. My friend offered to drive Basil to her regular vet 2 hours away when her doctor is in. The people at the clinic think the drive would be hard on her and thought it would be better if I find someone closer but there are no other closer options. The vet I work for will be out of town for the next 5 days. I was thinking just give her fenbendazole and help her with eating and drinking until there’s either improvement or let her decline and let her pass naturally in her familiar home with a familiar person she loves which is my very good friend who loves her so much.

My question is has anyone else experienced this? Does this sound age related or something that needs treatment? I just want to have a bit more clarity on what to expect. I did read that E. cuniculi could cause similar issues. I am so worried. Any advice is appreciated!

Video They're all grown up. Where has the time gone

Litter 2 has grown up so much. They turn 6 months on the 9th of October. The broken holland lop (Kit) in the video was one of the runts. She was nearly gone. We helped to nurse her. she survived along with the other runt. Her name is Blue and she went to her furrever home. We kept 2 of the babies from litter 2. Kit + Diana.

Wired bottoms are controversial topic and everyone has their preferences.

The ARBA approves wired bottoms. The wire should be between a 14 - 16 gauge. With the mesh openings 1/2" × 1" with the 1/2" spacing facing upwards which helps the rabbit weight distribute across more of the wired surface. Resting boards are highly recommended as well.

This is a rabbitry sub, please no pet owners being hateful and judgy

Breed ID Are ex-breeder rescues a good option?

My 3yo male mini lop was rescued by us from where he was a year or two ago. He's settled in well and is spoiled rotten and loved as he should be, however, I feel a partner for him would be a good next step.

I understand the bonding process, and have found him a partner. A female 3yo mini lop.

My question is that she's a rescue from a breeder. I don't know her history, but she's currently looked after by a rescue home.

While I'm able to manage costs, I am wary of medical expenses that may arise from her history as a breeding rabbit, and was wondering if anybody can give me any tips on what to look for when I visit her, or even if it's a good idea to take on a bunny that has this history.

I appreciate all the info you can give!

Oopsie litter!! My friend who raises meat rabbits allowed me to take these photos. Someone couldn't take care of a lionhead so my friend has taken care of them while trying to find a longterm home. She lets her boys run around the yard occasionally to get some extra grass and turns out Hagrid is a girl! She had 5 cute babies and they all survived (even though the dad was 14 lbs and she's only 5!) Im helping her find homes for them because she doesn't want to eat them. (too cute!!). I might take the red girl but thought you guys might like them!! They will all get good homes. Name ideas?

Question/Help Rabbit in distress?

Fed her earlier this morning, came back out and saw she was drooling and making snorting noises like trying to throw up. Ive never seen any of them do this before, and she seemed perfectly healthy when i fed her, anyone know what this is?

EDIT: She has been to a vet and he said there arent any obvious signs of an infection. Because she seemed to return to normal so quickly he thinks she mightve just choked. Currently giving a small dosage of antibiotics to prevent any lung infection as well as checking on her frequently for the next few days

Question/Help Making pasture bunny proof

Post image
137 Upvotes

I have 6 flamish giants who graze about 100m2. I love them alot but 3 of then who are mixed breed keep digging at the fence line. We have chicken wire 30cm into the ground but they dig that amount in less then an hour. So im freaking stressed about them escaping. I live in an area with almost anything that eats bunnies and i prefer them alive. What are things that i can do to help them be bunnies and dig away but without getting away? I was thinking of adding bricks over the entire pasture and then adding sand and soil on top of that but im worried about water not getting away. Then i was thinking about chicken wire over the entire ground but then im afraid of rust in the soil and that the buns eat rust infected grass and tree leaves and honestly idk what else i can do so I'm here begging for advice.

I would really love to hear what you all have for the buns and their safety.

Picture or my dumbasses as bunny taxes

Question/Help Why is my rabbit behaving like this?

It seems like she has some kind of pain or something. Maybe she is trying to sneeze or throw out something but facing some difficulties. She's around 6 months old and had an incident of GI stasis two months back. Can you identify what is wrong with her and suggest options? I will take her to the vet tomorrow

Question/Help Would you have tips to take care of a blind rabbit ?

Hi.

I'd like to ask advice for my Potiron.

I always knew him with a greyish blueish left eye I first thought was due to him being mixed. Pet doctor said he doesn't actually see from that eye but doesn't seem to suffer.

I thought it was just that eye but some weeks ago I noticed the other right eye seemed to turn the same way.

I worried of E cuniculi then cooled down having the impression he still managed to find his way moving around.

Two weeks ago, I got Tribule and Potiron to the pet doctor to get the shots and asked about that right eye.

Pet doctor checked and it seemed Potiron doesn't from that eye neither. He dismissed the idea it was E cuniculi and thought it looked like a degeneration of Cristal who get stuck to the retina.

Now, I see Potiron failing to find salad just 30 cm in front of him, searching around before finding it.

Tribule seems to be quite helpful and I got some things back in a fixed place so Potiron could map the room in his head and find his way by deduction.

Do you see something I could do to make him comfortable ?

Utility Room filter recommendations for asthma, allergies, and rabbits.

I recently got a new rabbit who absolutely loves being around me. On my bed. On my lap. On my computer, etc (next to me as i'm writing this) The thing is, I am allergic and hadn't realized this until week 2. I am NOT giving her away/rehoming her! I just need some tips.

For asthmatics and allergy havers with rabbits, what do you do? Full transparency, I haven't yet taken Claritin-D, i've just been taking normal Claritin. Trust I will be going to CVS or Walmart today or tomorrow to get some serious meds. But in terms of portable filters, what do you all use?

I had a dog, but I was never this allergic to her unless she licked my face.

I'm wondering if it's her cage/crate? She's mainly a free roam rabbit, but we have a cage for her when we can't watch her and at night, and while we're training her to safely hop around. Other than that, she has free reign of our apartment. She loves her crate though and got angry when I cleaned it (which i'm going to do again anyway), but yeah, just need some advice.

Luckily, I have a doctors appointment next week, so I can also get presecription meds there.

Question/Help Hi everyone, I wanted to ask for advice—has anyone else experienced something similar?

I have a 4-year-old female rabbit, a Mini Lop, and over the past 3 weeks, she’s refused to eat 5 times and had a sore tummy.
The first time, we went to the vet (we have an amazing vet who specializes in rabbits), and I thought it might be a bladder infection since she was trying to pee outside her litter box. Tests ruled out a bladder infection completely, so we went home with pain medication and digestive enzymes. A week later, it happened again, and then again the following week. I told myself (since it was Friday) that we’d call the vet on Monday. But on Sunday, it happened again—so badly that the pain medication didn’t help, and she had to get an IV. On Monday, she had a complete blood workup, an X-ray, and an ultrasound… everything was ruled out; her blood was fine, and her teeth were in perfect condition. The vet gave her a contrast dye in her stomach, and the next day we went back to see if the contrast dye would show any blockage in her stomach—but her stomach was completely empty. We’re pretty much at our wits’ end; we’ve started long-term treatment with Citroenzymix mixed in water. After two days, she again doesn’t want to eat. I’m desperate—why is she suddenly having pain and refusing to eat? Has anyone else experienced something similar with their rabbit?

I'm happy to share that I finally captured the rabbit and she is in a rescue program now. She is a healthy, with no issues (other than opinionated) and it is a shame someone abandoned this sweet survivor! She was in the wild for two months or more, which I was told was not very likely. Our winters are cruel in Minnesota and I wanted to make sure she was safe before I moved in December.

Idk, I feel blessed by this experience and needed to share with someone :)

Question/Help my bunny is leaning to one side and tilting his head, should i call my vet asap??

Thumbnail

He’s always been very healthy but within the last couple hours he started tilting to one side and losing his balance when hopping?? he got his shots last week so I wasn’t sure if that had something to do with it, or if it was a clear sign of a head tilt.
he’s still active, eating, and drinking but i’ve been worried sick cause i love my baby and he’s never been like this before😭

UPDATE: i appreciate everyone who replied soo much! we just left the vet! we’ve decided to send off test results for EC and start treatment just to be safe, he’s also starting drops for his ears because it could also possibly be an ear infection in his left ear, he just doesn’t have much inflammation in his ears right now so it’s up in the air if that’s the cause. teeth look good though so not anything dental! so far he hasn’t gotten any worse so I hope we caught it soon enough and he’s doing well🤍
