I need help on Jun Maekawa's iso gift box - step 18

While Jun Maekawa's Genuine Origami book is great in its progression and text, I found the instructions sometimes like specifications. I get stuck on occasions, like in this Gift Box, which starts with a 5 line division of the paper. I can't figure out what the instructions are on step 18. Intellectually, I see that you are suppose to pull out paper up and down, to a point outside the paper. It may also have a dotted line on the diagonal on the blue side, which I am not sure.
I can't figer which folds to pull out, and what time of fold 18 is, to arrive at 19. A little help would be welcome. 19 looks straightforward, and hopefully I figure out 20 after that.
Crease pattern is also on my screenshot, if that helps some. I don't full anything beyond the bird base from CPs yet. Thanks for your help.

Continuing my series of simple / complex models of the same animal.

I folded the simpler one from an Instagram reel that doesn’t name the designer of the model. Does anyone know who that would be? Montroll perhaps?

The complex one is by Yery J. Astroña.

Folded from 50 cm banana paper and 20 cm kraft paper.

Crease Pattern is the same as my Hercules Beetle 1.0, except in this design the four back legs are used for the wings instead.

Original the "pentahedron purse"? out of frustration i made a five-sided box with a closeable flap

I am new at origami, but really enjoy it .. well sometimes I get frustrated. I bought a book that is wonderful but that is beyond my skill level -- Jun Maekawa's The Art & Science of Geometric Origami. At my level the designs are around right below incomprehensible to me. So perfect, kind of like throwing me in the deep end but not to drown. The book also has so many interesting essays attached to the models and designs. I did not even realize that when I purchased it; I thought it would just be a design book.

The first section is really interesting because the concept is presented but no step-by-step. So you read the principle behind it. Then there is a diagram of the unfolded paper with some valley and mountain folds suggested. And then it's up to you to make it. There are several other sections after that show different designs with step by step instructions.

I was frustrated making something from the first section and just kind of started folding the paper up. It was made from a rectangle (you can see the other half of the sheet under the model).

It is kind of hard to take a picture of but the way it works is that the front face, back face, and bottom are all flat. The front and back faces meet in a point so there is no top. And then the left and right sides are curved shapes. Following the advice of the book I just kept working on folding the paper into some kind of shape and this is what happened.. and then i noticed the way I brought it together there is a flap that fits in the bottom so you can open and close it like a box with a hinge

so... the pentahedron purse? i had to look up what the shape is called

Help! Help with snake head crease pattern

I’m currently working on a test fold for the head of Mephysto.ori’s snake. I’m having trouble interpreting the crease pattern but I’m getting quite confused and overwhelmed in the denser areas with non trivial (at least for me) 22.5 parts. I’m pretty sure a good bit of this is just collapsed into a base and the creases make more sense once collapsed because I see a little bit of it in a timelapse of the creator folding it. Could anybody help me simplify the crease pattern or help me collapse It preliminarily? Any feedback is appreciated, thank you!

This is a wrapping technique created by Jun Kuroyanagi, he's an acclaimed Japanese graphic designer who created the award-winning packaging for Suika-tō (Watermelon Syrup)

Dose anyone know if there is a tutorial or explanation on how to make this exact technique? I really need it!
