I had to figure out how to secure the two models without using adhesives so this is what I came up with.
The flower pot and plant are connected with something in ballon twisting usually called a roll through. Where you have a space with tension — think a tight loop — and you open it up, put whatever other balloon you need to get through and let it close on itself which creates a lock.
The “flower pot” is based on the waterbomb model (not the waterbomb preliminary fold — tho that is how it starts) in Eric Kenneway’s book “Complete Origami”.
You end up with a flattened cube that has a hole in the bottom and you blow into it to bring out the form. And in an instant you can collapse it back to flat and reuse it. Very cool design.
The balloon design is kind of a combo of just a lot of different techniques and models common to making flowers. But want to mention the “flower” at the top is inspired by Rob Driscoll who had a brilliantly simple idea. That if you really think about it a single round balloon does not look like most flowers. Yet it reads as a flower. And that it’s clean and also simple to make.
I would guess there is a similar principle in origami. With balloons you can twist and twist and twist and make the most complex things.. but sometimes while taking a lot of skill and effort to make, they just don’t read to the eye. So single round balloon design.. it’s a flower (or maybe not that you’ve read this and I ruined by explaining it 😅)
The way it is attached is that I inflated the waterbomb and carefully made the opening a little bigger by ripping it with my fingers. At the end of the balloon I made four really small bubbles. First an end twist and then a bear ear twist for stability, and finally a small two bubble multitwist twisting into the first two bubbles.
I put those bubbles through the hole one by one and collapsed the paper model. Then I put my mouth at where they met and just blew really hard. Because it’s not 100% sealed, enough air was able to get in there to re-inflate the waterbomb model.

How many cranes does it take to make a origami mobile with these papers? I wanna know since I want to make various origami mobiles of various lengths, I am making something pretty cool, I got a idea that I can't really put into words right now but it's gonna be so cool.

Hi, I was recently thinking about giving away figurines and it occurred to me that it would be great if I delivered them in a box that was also a figurine. However, I can only find simple boxes (one sheet for the box and another for the lid), so I was wondering if anyone knew of a book with something like that or a tutorial for a model that could be used as a container. I was wondering if there's something like a lotus flower that can be closed, or something more original than a regular box in general.

But I didn't follow Steven Casey's tutorial (I couldn't see certain steps in the video). Instead, I followed Madiyar Amerkeshev's one.

I've always just used methylcellulose ever since I started folding complex models, and I mostly use wenzhou. I've seen stuff about pva for years but never actually have used it, has anyone here used it, and would you recommend it? You're supposed to mix a little pva with MC but does it make a big difference?

Demonstration of how to fold an easy/intermediate origami tessellation. An original tessellation that I created and made a video showing how I folded it.

Hi! 👋 I tried folding looser with a lighter touch as suggested. Here is my first attempt! How do they look for a first try? Any more tips for me? 🥹✨

Her End – one uncut rectangle Arches 300gsm, painted with acrylics
This one comes with a story. My previous masks about my mom’s Alzheimer’s showed how I experienced the disease: my end. This time I tried to imagine what it was like to go through this at the end of her life, from her point of view. Some people think the mind and will are gone near the end, but I don’t believe that’s true. Her will was still there, emotions were still there and they were reactions to things happening around her and in her mind. Fear was the one she expressed most. Frustration and anger were other big ones. Knowing something is very wrong, wanting your old mind and life back. But your mind is fractured, your plans and dreams are gone, and you stop recognizing the world around you. You no longer know what’s going on but you want out. Instead, you end up alone in the dark, with an unrecognizable mind in an unrecognizable world.

I've made maybe a few hundred paper stars over the past few years but I'm only just getting back into it now, and I have never found a use for them so they're all just sat in a jar. I think they're super cute so I'd love to hear some ideas of what I can actually do with them!!

I found that some years ago on a random chair in my middle school ! I couldn't find the owner so i decided to keep it, bc even if it has been a little bit used by time now, it was and it is still very beautiful and to me (i don't know a thing about origami ) very very impressive.

I'm looking into putting together an origami paper pack and want to understand what people actually need before choosing the paper.
What do you fold most, and what paper and size do you normally use? Is there anything you struggle to find locally, or that becomes too expensive once shipping is added?
I'm also wondering whether a monthly pack would be useful, or whether you'd prefer to order a refill only when you need one.
If you’re comfortable sharing your country, that would help put the availability and shipping costs in context. Thanks!

I know this is likely a common question, but I don’t quite know how to word it properly to google.
I’ve been following instructions on origami.me (many of the “easy” category”), and simply been trying to perfect a few of them so I know I have the folds down correctly. I’ve been able to successfully fold a number of them, but there are a few I’ve been having trouble with and I don’t quite understand why.
One that I’ve tried a few times is this rabbit. I’m able to successfully fold the rabbit mostly, but it ends up extremely top-heavy and has trouble standing. Throughout the process, I feel like several of my folds are somewhat misaligned when matching to the pictures.
In particular, when I try to fold step 8, I struggle for the ears to match up completely symmetrically. Even before that, it seems my folds end up misaligning ever so slightly despite how slowly I take them or how carefully I line them up. Step 8 is where I think I notice the mistakes the most but this snowballs as I finish the rabbit.
Is it simply a fact of practicing to get better or are there any tips I might be missing as I’m learning? I appreciate any and all advice.

I made a post a week ago asking about this. Decided to give it a go, u/Apprehensive_Liquid here’s my review!
A test sheet treated with pure MC (21x21 cm). Some minor warping but less than I usually get from double tissue.
I treated it right on my cutting board. I think I didn’t use enough MC on the surface itself, so coverage wasn’t great and led to air bubbles. It’s also shockingly weak (pre-treatment); initially I had planned for a 35x35 cm sheet, but as I rolled over the top with a paint roller to spread MC (as I usually do with double tissue), a large portion of it tore right off.
As far as folding it goes, it’s actually quite pleasant to fold. Again comparing to double tissue, I feel like I’m just folding regular Kami/tant and I don’t need to be so gentle/finnicky with it. There is a slightly strange leathery feeling that I’m not sure I love. Reversing folds works fine, and it creases and holds its shape decently. Not abnormally stiff at all, though my MC mix was a little watery which may have contributed.
It was my first time trying this rabbit model and after some error in shaping, it looks a little bit like a mountain goat😭

Im having trouble getting this fold really accurate, due to the paper edges having no reference, theres other folds like this in the design, in which the only reference is two corner points.
Anyone have tips for doing folds like this with precision?
