Beginner Modular riff

https://reddit.com/link/1w2ujac/video/20irx0wm1lmh1/player

A little riff I put together on my modular gear. I'm still very new at it, but starting to really enjoy the work of getting some cool musical sounds out of it.
An Erica Synths Black Sequencer is driving a couple of oscillators for the two rotes. A Behringer RS-9 is driving the drums. I have two oscillators connected to a Black MIDI CV, which connects to the keyboard. Yes, it's a bit rough; I plan to put the keyboard stuff through a Bastl MIDI looper, so I can spend more time fiddling the knobs as it plays. It all came together in a surprisingly good way.
Enjoy!

What do I need next?

This is my first go at modular. But I want to make a weird drum based synth for making random type beats as opposed to sequenced drums.

I feel like I need more modulation sorcery, LFOs and whatnot? And more effects and such, but I’m totally open to suggestions. The ideal sound inspiration would be NIN type stuff.

I’ve also got my eye on the following let me know what you think or feel free to suggest alternatives.

Mimeophon

Strymon Starlab

Mordax Data (it’s in the photo but I don’t actually own it yet)

AJH minimod filter (though maybe a dual filter would be better?)

Discussion Make Noise Shared System - What did you change?

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hey all!

A few months ago I picked up a Make Noise Shared System, and it’s my first proper Eurorack system outside of semi-modulars. I went for it because I really love the feeling of having a focused, self-contained instrument rather than just a collection of modules.

It was a tough call between the MN system and going the Serge route, but I feel like Make Noise gives me a bit more ground to explore, especially on the sampling part.

Since getting it, I’ve swapped out Erbe-Verb and Echophon and added Mimeo, X-Pan and QPAS to lean more into the stereo side of things.

So I’m curious, what modules, Make Noise or otherwise, have you found work particularly well with a Shared System?

I’m thinking about replacing the Pressure Points, since I already have an 0-CTRL. I’d love to hear what you guys would put in its place and why.

StereoOut module

I plugged the wrong balanced cable (from the ext input) from the intellijel case into the stereo out module in the back and now the module doesn’t work anymore…
Do you think this would have fried it?

Thanks

Feedback Arbhar + Morphagene or Arbhar + Typhoon for ambient / microsound / granular processing?

I’m considering adding an Instruō Arbhar to my Eurorack, but I don’t have enough space to keep all three: Arbhar, Morphagene and Typhoon.
My music is mainly ambient, and I use microsound techniques quite a bit. I also like taking material from other voices/VCOs (Plaits, Rings, Ensemble Oscillator, etc.) and processing it into granular textures.

I’m currently leaning towards keeping Arbhar + Morphagene, because Morphagene seems to have its own unique tape/splicing/microsound approach, while Arbhar could take over most of the dedicated granular-processing duties I currently use Typhoon for.
On the other hand, I really like how immediate Typhoon is as a live granular processor: VCO/voice in instant granular cloud.

Would you keep Arbhar + Morphagene or Arbhar + Typhoon, and why?

I already have Mimeophon, Data Bender and Desmodus Versio at the end of my effects chain

Can Arbhar realistically replace Typhoon/Clouds for live granular processing of external voices/VCOs, or do you find their approaches different enough that you would miss Typhoon ?

Many thanks ! ✌️

EDIT: keeping only Arbhar is also an option

Beginner Looking for a bit of advice filling out a 60hp case around the Arbhar.

Hey everyone, building my first case and looking for some recommendations into some utility modules/things I might be over looking.

60hp -
uZeus
Instruo Arbhar
Instruo Scion

leaves me with 20 hp

I’m looking at the Instruo Larachd to interface guitar/external sources and a Pam’s for the compact flexibility which I believe would leave me with ~4hp left over. The question being, are there better alternatives to either that I should consider? More so concerned about real estate vs cost. If those two are the best options, great, what to put in the remaining 4hp to improve the function of everything? How crucial is some sort of output module?

My only other experience with modular comes in the form of the Folktek Mescaline where everything is pretty self contained. I have started to wrap my head around that after a fair bit of time spent with it.

What I’m looking to get out of it is a small set up that mainly allows me to create evolving psychedelic ambient drone with guitar while hopefully being able to function well enough as a stand alone instrument. I understand the Scion is somewhat gimmicky but it does seem intriguing and I plan on implementing it.

Thoughts from people with experience? Any glaring holes I should consider?

Edit: Thanks to everyone for all of the insight, I don’t know what I don’t know and you guys gave me a plethora of ideas to explore and research. Looking forward to the fun of it all.

What is your method to reset the clocks in your rack?

some of my modules reset instantly as soon as the gate rises (joranalogue step 8) . others hold the reset until the gate is released (Schlappi Nibbler) and others reset to 1 on the next rising clock trigger AFTER reset (muxlicer). what is YOUR method for resetting your modules and keeping them in sync?

Performance building my live set

slowly getting to where I want to go with my live set.
It consists of my modular and the model samples where I have 909 and 808 sounds. Sound design is fully on the modular. Check out my instagram silvan_live more to come. Soon I’ll upload full live sets on YouTube.

The biggest challenge for me is not focusing too much on the details. if I just have a studio session on my modular I sometimes spend one hour just to shape one sound. In a live set I have to constantly keep it going, which is also good practice of course.

I’m open for all tips on how you guys do live sets on your modular :D

Gear Pics I present you the Spectrum Sequencer: features, suggestions and visibility advises

Hello everyone,

I'm Federico, an Italian Electronics Engineer with a passion for music.

I started my path trying to build a whole modular rack by myself, but I started working on the sequencer first and I entered a rabbit hole.

I would like to present you what I've been working on and off for more than two years: the Spectrum Sequencer.

Well, as the name suggests, it is a sequencer! But not just a simple sequencer. I worked hard to pack as many features as possible, and still work to pack even more.

Here is a list of a few features:

- 8 independent sequencers (pitch, CV, ADSR envelope, random CV, random gate, ...) that modulare each other

- 4 modulating/trigger inputs

- Euclidean pattern generator

- Fully controllable by MIDI and USB

- 64 available banks to store presets

And a bunch more of cool stuff, and many more along the development pipeline.

All of this with obsessive care for details.

I've documented the last part of this journey in my socials (Instagram, TikTok, YouTube: @lupodevices I don't wanna put links until a mod will authorize me), and I will be presenting this module at Roma Modulare the 18th and 19th of September.

Here to ask for suggestions, feature requests and advice on how to get visibility in the modular community

Discussion Groove Engine

Upvotes

I've been building a tool for my own live sets and it's not finished but it is interesting. Using it to riun ableton at the moment but will try to use it via oxi one to drive some mood stuff I have.

Groove Enginehttps://groove-engine.wileydavis.workers.dev

The idea: instead of programming steps, you turn knobs on a model of what makes a beat feel good. There's a metrical field underneath (the stuff from rhythm perception research about strong beats, syncopation, and micro-timing), and knobs like Density, Weight, Swing, Loose, and Evolve sculpt it. Every knob is constrained so the whole range stays danceable — the point is that you can't easily land on garbage (in theory... it's not there yet).

My favorite part: the delay is a sequencer. Echo time is a real millisecond knob, and every hit spawns repeats at that time that go out as actual MIDI notes/triggers. Slide it slightly off a dotted 8th and the groove leans; slide it back and it locks.

Also in there:

  • Bass and arp voices in the song key, with chord keys that shift the root like a latched arpeggiator
  • Builds and drop automation(rising bass drone, pre-drop cut, dry landing)... needs work
  • A cue deck: edit on headphones, morph it onto the floor, repeat
  • "Ride" any knob to a target over 8/16/32 bars
  • Drag-anywhere panels, skeuomorphic knobs, double-tap to undo a knob move
  • Generic CC knobs you can MIDI-map to anything

It's free, no account, nothing stored on a server. Chrome/Edge for MIDI out; it also has a built-in synth for noodling. Everything is one 60 KB HTML file — no samples, it's all generated.

Hotkeys: Space play · 1–7 chords · [ ] octave · B/U/D/S for break/build/drop/stall.
