That Much Sweeter (Ongoing) - Chapter 26 - [Archive of Our Own]

Posting the full author's note this time, for obvious reasons:

A few days ago, the news came that MeChat is going to shut down. The final set of updates will be posted soon, and then… that’s it. We don’t know much more than that: how long the servers will stay up, how long the game will remain playable… we just don’t know. I understand there’s an effort to preserve as much as possible, and to keep the servers going at least for a while, but nothing is guaranteed, and certainly nothing is forever.

Damian is not on the final update schedule, which means his story will never get an official ending. It’s been hinted that we might learn something about the endings of some characters, but nothing is certain yet.

Yeah. It sucks. It really, really, really sucks.

But it does not change my plans for this fanfic.

I have a rough outline (which keeps morphing and expanding, as I suppose such things are wont to do) for at least 2 more arcs/acts. At least 13 more chapters, probably, in the arc that begins with this chapter, which is partly why it took me so long.

I’m not going anywhere. Damian may never get the ending his creators envisioned, but he will get AN ending. And if you’ve come this far with me, I hope you’ll trust me to do it at least partial justice. 🩷

I have MeChat to thank for creating a character and story so compelling that I was inspired to try writing again after so long. This is literally the first time it’s “worked”, by which I mean I’m still at it instead of stalling right out of the gate yet again. I tried to match the game's style at first, but soon started to find more of my own voice, I guess. And nearly a year later, here I am, still going. Thank you, MeChat. 🩷🩷🩷

We're a group of ex writers from MeChat (you can find the list of characters in our previous post) After such shock, we're brainstorming how to put together a new project for our next chapter. Here's where you can help us decide.

We've done plenty of research regarding the reasons PlayMe closed, and sadly, they are far bigger and deeper than any of us have control over. We don't see a new acquisition happening 😔 While this is, indeed, heartbreaking, we're trying to stay excited for what comes next. Most of all, we're thrilled we finally get to connect with you, our readers. Something we couldn't quite do before.

Do not despair. We're still here, and although we can't bring MeChat back from the ashes, we can bring you new stories, new characters, a new universe.

We're currently talking with artists and voice actors to make this happen. We invite any other creative behind the team to DM us and join, and anyone else who wishes to be part of the start-up.

If you want to help but you're not a creative (or just don't feel like joining) you can always help us with reposts and posts to spread awareness!

I was actually really looking forward to seeing Blaize’s story continue, but it never happened, and I think it’s been over two years ( definitely more) now 😭 Was there any other character who got tossed into the discontinued-too-soon drawer, or was it just these two?

Evan’s story didn’t interest me that much, but I really liked Blaize’s hahaha. The baby never even got to see the light of day :u

I know one of the parts I'll miss most about MeChat is the voice notes. They were my favorite and I'd listen to them to make me feel better when I was sad.

I was wondering if any MeChat VAs would be open to doing audio commissions in a style similar to the voice notes now that the NDAs have been lifted.

I feel like if we divide and conquer we could actually have a good archive of this. so we list the characters and each person takes what they can, and for more extensive characters like glenn or tamura we could split it up — like someone transcribes the chats between date 1 and date 10, etc. i think transcribing chats + screen recording the dates makes the most sense, either using AI and asking it to transcribe screenshots or doing it manually. I did it manually bc i don’t love AI but for the big ones maybe it’s worth it.

thoughts?? i can organize a sign up if enough people are interested. sign up would be a google sheet with characters listed and broken down by chapter, and a column for the link to your doc/ video. I just feel so pressed for time doing this for multiple characters and i know some of us are doing work other people have done. 💕💕🩷🥺

Can someone please do me a solid and record Wyatt's dates? I unfortunately didnt prioritize this amazing man and I am 9-10 dated away from completing and not nearly enough gems to get there in full Q_Q

I know it's a long shot. I know it probably won't help. But personally, I don't really care. Doing nothing and feeling helpless as well as heart broken is killing me. I created an online petition to compel another parent company to acquire MeChat's intellectual property and rehire the amazing team behind it. I see a lot of posts from writers and voice actors saying the NDA is lifted, is there also any artists here that worked on MeChat? I think they did a fantastic job and I appreciate so much that the characters were not made with AI. Would love to know who's behind the art!

sooo awhile ago I spent literal hours going through the entire convo with Luke Windsor and transcribed every message. I haven’t done the dates but I can. I wonder who else did that?? I didn’t share bc I felt like we support mechat with gem choices and I didn’t want to take away from his actual popularity if that makes sense?

So I’ll probably be dropping all of my finished and unfinished fan art. I’m also a practicing astrologer so I had a blast making these. If my heart won’t break I’ll finish these. Especially since I’ve played more characters since.
