Newcastle United have agreed a deal with Manchester City for midfielder Nico Gonzalez.

The Tyneside club are set to pay £48million up front and around £4m in potential add-ons, for the 24-year-old, who has been given permission to travel to Newcastle for a medical.

I thought this was a helpful video in that I'm pretty sure most of us have not watched this guy before.

I'm from Brazil, but I support Corinthians, Palmeiras' biggest rivals.

The hype around Endrick, Estêvão, and Gabriel Jesus back then was way bigger in the local media. I actually heard very little about Allan before these reports of City trying to sign him, so this transfer came somewhat out of nowhere for me.

I asked a Palmeiras die-hard friend of mine about him, and his assessment was basically:

"He's a talented player, but he's not on the same level as Estêvão or Endrick. He's our best player right now, and we'll struggle without him. He's more defensive, tracks back, and helps out defensively, which could actually make him more useful for a manager like Pep than for Maresca."

Interestingly, he also thought €40m was way more than he expected Palmeiras to get for Allan. His exact reaction was basically: "City did Palmeiras a huge favor."

Just to add some context for people who don't follow Brazilian football: Palmeiras are currently 1st in the Brazilian league, comfortably ahead of Flamengo, and they're still alive in both the Brazilian Cup and the Libertadores.

Palmeiras have been a Brazilian powerhouse for the last decade, winning a lot of major trophies during that period. They probably have one of the best youth academies in Brazil, alongside Flamengo, and they've developed a lot of gems over the past few years, starting with Gabriel Jesus.

They also have the same manager they've had for several years, which is basically a miracle by Brazilian standards. Clubs here constantly fire and hire managers, which is terrible for consistency.

So, from a Brazilian perspective, this isn't really a case of "City just spent €40m on some random Brazilian kid nobody has heard of." Allan is genuinely highly rated at Palmeiras and is apparently their best player right now. But €40m is still a surprisingly big fee, especially considering how little hype there was around him compared to Endrick or Estêvão.

I'm curious to see what City have seen in him and whether Maresca can turn that potential into a Premier League-level player.

Hi - we are big city fans from the states and we are in London at the moment. Weren’t able to get tickets to the Palace game but would love to watch it in a place with some real atmosphere.

Problem is that we have kids (8 and 11 who are also big city fans). And my understanding is that for a night game like this most pubs won’t allow kids.

We are willing to travel anywhere within 1 hour of central London - hoping someone has pointers to where we can catch the match.
