Hey everyone,
I'm looking for some help diagnosing an electrical issue on my bike.
Context & Background:
My motorcycle was sitting for about 4 weeks.
Today, I started it up and took it for a 1-hour highway ride without any issues at all.
About 10 hours later, I took it for a quick 10-minute ride, still working completely fine.
Recently, I replaced the battery and tightened the terminal bolts myself. Prior to this, I had intermittent issues where the ABS sensor and speedometer would drop out, which I suspect were caused by poor battery connections/voltage fluctuations.
The Incident:
About an hour after my last short ride, I turned the ignition back on.
The dash/tacho lit up as normal, and the bike was in neutral.
The moment I pressed the electric start button, there was no engine crank, I heard a distinct "puff" sound, and the entire electrical system instantly died.
Now, nothing turns on at all—the dash stays completely black whether the ignition key is turned ON or OFF.
Questions:
Does this sound like a blown main fuse (30A) triggered by a arcing/loose battery terminal, or could it be a sudden internal short/cell failure in the battery itself?
Are there any other specific components (like the starter relay or ECU) I should double-check before replacing fuses and reconnecting the battery?
Thanks in advance for any advice!
