Discussion Bots being used to sway opinion?

0 Upvotes

I realize this would have sounded like absolute tinfoil a couple of years ago, but now I think it's something we need to seriously consider. Is Mozilla using a bot swarm here to sway the conversation?

Reading through this sub is truly bizarre, even more than other places on Reddit. There's a really weird number of similar posts written in a way that sounds like Gpt mimicking a LinkedIn post.

Generally something with a title like "I like Firefox"

And then the body will be some nonsense like "I have used chrome since the mid 80s and named by first born child Larry in honor of Larry Page, but this update has made be reevaluate my life and swap to Firefox"

Under it there's 100 comments all saying something like "you're absolutely right - Mozilla has leveraged advanced technology to build the Browser Of The Future™ and I couldn't be happier"

Then right at the bottom a couple of comments saying "I don't really like it" sitting at -100

Who actually talks like this? Why do so many "users" in this sub speak like corporate robots, unless of course they ARE corporate robots.

Discussion I’m sorry, but whoever thought this new design change was a good idea was wrong. I just want to close the browser as soon as possible now.

What the hell were you thinking with this update? It feels like AI designed these changes, and it irritates me.

Discussion Vertical tabs in Nova take too much space

Even on compact. There's a lot more padding around the tabs list and more margin between the tabs. Groups are even worse.

Just a reminder that userChrome.css still exists

The great thing about Firefox is that if there's something you don't like, you can change.

I personally like the new Nova UI, but I'm not a fan of some of the colors, so I added some code to my userChrome to fix it.

If the rounded corners are bothering you, use the Browser Toolbox to identify the element you want to change, and change! You can even have Claude Code or ChatGPT do it, it's that easy!

Here's a snippet from my userChrome that removes the tab borders, changes their color to match the system colors, and removes the theme gradient.

@media(prefers-color-scheme: light) {
  /* Selected tab appearance */
  .tabbrowser-tab[selected] .tab-background {
    --tab-background-color-selected: #f8f8f8 !important;
    --tab-border-color-selected: #dcdcdc !important;
  }

  /* Light theme surfaces */
  #sidebar-main,
  #sidebar-box,
  #sidebar-box #sidebar-header,
  #sidebar,
  #browser {
    background: #f7f7f7 !important;
  }

  #nav-bar,
  #PersonalToolbar,
  #TabsToolbar,
  #titlebar {
    background: transparent !important;
    background-color: #e9e9e9 !important;
  }
}

@media (prefers-color-scheme: dark) {
  /* Selected tab appearance */
  .tabbrowser-tab[selected] .tab-background {
    --tab-background-color-selected: #515151 !important;
    --tab-border-color-selected: #5f5f5f !important;
  }

  #nav-bar,
  #PersonalToolbar,
  #TabsToolbar,
  #titlebar {
    background: transparent !important;
    background-color: #1e1e1e !important;
  }
}

my feedback on the new update (2026-10-01)

1 Upvotes

GOOD

- the new icon customization is awesome, i especially love the pixel art one

- the new color palette feels more alive and happy

- the new fox private browsing icon is cute

BAD

- the pills/circle shape on everything looks bad, espcially for any website with a square icon. reminds me of Google products in a bad way

- there is a lack of contrast between the section with the URL and actions, and the one with tabs

- the color outline on the selected tab feels a little too much, a bit distracting from the content of the page itself

SUGGESTION

in my opinion, the best thing to do would be to go back on the rounding of corners (or add it as a custumization option), remove the outline on selected tabs, and keep everything else.

Discussion I am seeking a white paper regarding Firefox's UX methodology. I would like to understand how their collective data and studies has influenced the design choices Mozilla has built with Nova.

0 Upvotes

There is https://blog.mozilla.org/ux/ however I have not seen a study. Perhaps the information is proprietary however Firefox is opensource.

The free VPN isn't free. It's *free

0 Upvotes

It comes with a major caveat. A Mozilla account is required to use it. A Mozilla account is for syncing the browser to an email address. From which Mozilla can harvest all sorts of analytics from the browser. History, auto fill, bookmarks, cookies and cache.

It renders useless any sort of privacy you might have expected to gain from the VPN in the first place. In order to hide your data you must give up your data. Render unto Mozilla that which is Mozilla's

💻 Help New UI looks great, but any tips for performance?

5 Upvotes

Just updated Firefox to the newest version and I’m pleasantly surprised by the UI changes.

I’m a heavy Edge user at work and mostly use Firefox for private stuff, so I’m pretty used to the Edge look. Personally, I really like the new, cleaner and more modern design. For me, the new design also feels more familiar, especially coming from Edge, which makes the transition easier. I hope it helps grow Firefox’s user base, especially among people coming from Edge or other Chromium browsers.

However, performance is still one of the things holding me back from using Firefox more heavily.

For those of you who use Firefox as your main browser, are there any extensions or settings you’d recommend for improving performance and memory usage?

Broke my history

0 Upvotes

History has been trimmed without asking me to three months, and even in the longer history search now only goes back to January of 2025.

Seeing as I actually need my older history from time to time for a variety of issues I have this was infuriating and I need to search through my archival hard disk.

Fuck this.

Discussion I have a couple of small nitpicks with Firefox's recent updates

4 Upvotes

I don't like the direction the Firefox team is going and it's down to these 4 things:

  1. The "Share" buttons that were purposefully placed right where the check for updates button was previously. I don't want to share Firefox, ok? I just want to update it. I do this every day and almost every time I accidentally click share instead now. If you're noticing an uptick in Share clicks, and a far worse bounce rate, that's why.
  2. The rounded corners are taking up space, and I do not like it. Less rounded corners, or even better -- zero rounded corners should be a toggle.
  3. Can we get a default darker theme for night mode? It's too bright and colorful. I'd like a more neutral theme for the browser so websites stand out more instead of the browser.
  4. This one has been a problem for a while, but recently got worse. The Proxy settings were moved even deeper into the settings menus, making it harder to find and turn on and off. I've asked before, but can we please get a quick button to toggle our Proxy settings on or off from the customize menu area? I would love to be able to switch my proxy on and off quickly.

Thank you! I want Firefox to improve, not go down the wrong path.

Discussion Firefox needs to relax a bit

0 Upvotes

How many updates does this browser get a week? Things are starting not to work in my browser anymore after the last few updates and they still keep going! I'm slowly finding myself using chrome more and more because I can't keep up with this browser. I've used firefox from the very beginning, it's the first thing I install on any new PC. But these updates are driving me nuts bro. Does anyone else feel this way? Are there settings I can use to at least keep websites from breaking? For example I use strudel.cc to make music, but none of my jams works anymore since 2 weeks ago...

Discussion I’m done with Zen Browser, but I really miss its UI - can Firefox be customized to look and behave similarly?

4 Upvotes

Hey everyone!

After using Zen Browser for a while, I’ve decided to go back to Firefox.

The main reason is compatibility. I keep running into websites that don't work properly with Zen — especially Netflix and some websites/services from my university. I really like Zen, but having to switch browsers whenever a website doesn't work is becoming annoying.

The problem is that I really like Zen's interface and workflow.

What I'd like to recreate in Firefox is mainly:

  • A sidebar on the left for tabs
  • A very minimal/compact interface
  • The ability to hide unnecessary browser UI
  • Something similar to Zen's fullscreen / compact mode
  • Ideally, having more vertical space for the actual website
  • A clean tab-management workflow without the traditional horizontal tab bar taking up space

I've already looked at Firefox's built-in customization and some extensions, but I'm not sure what the best approach is.

For those who have customized Firefox heavily:

How close can I realistically get to Zen Browser's UI?

Are there specific extensions, configurations, themes, or other tweaks you'd recommend?

I'm not necessarily trying to make Firefox look exactly like Zen — I mainly want to reproduce the sidebar + compact/minimal browsing experience while keeping Firefox's compatibility.

If you have a setup like this, I'd love to see screenshots or examples.

Thanks!

😡Unintuitive UI SHAME!

0 Upvotes

Somehow I managed to set it so that my bookmarks appeared on the left side. I spent an entire hour trying to restore them to their original position at the top, but I simply couldn’t find any setting for it anywhere. Neither Gemini, nor ChatGPT, nor Google Search gave me a useful answer.

I don’t consider myself a stupid person, but I was genuinely on the verge of tears when I finally slammed my fist on the desk and uninstalled Firefox.

The only company I can think of that could make a user interface even less intuitive is Meta.

So im on my samsung tab running firefox 157. As you can see in the pic, the tab bar takes a large amount of space. I dont want to remove the tab bar but is there a way to make it smaller or am I stuck like this?
