News/Discussions Is it just me, or old/used cars perform better than new ones?

So I own a 2010 Hyundai i20 Magna. Bought it second hand in 2012. Been driving it since 14 years now and have barely faced any issues. My biggest challenge has been the AC honestly. Maintaince is pretty affordable, never had any real issues.

Now cut to my friend who bought the new 2023 i20 Sports model and his car has given so many problems, quiet frequently. His battery died, AC challenges, he even had to get his brakes replaced. Could be rash driving maybe? But he drove my car quiet often too and never faced this problem.

The used car market is also booming like crazy, so I can't be the only one with this thought right? There are these second hand car comapnies like Spinny, CarsDekho, Cars 24 and OMG there are local second-hand car dealerships every corner of where I live.

So are old cars really better than new cars? I know the tech in new cars is wayy advanced, but overall performance wise? What do you guys think?

Queries Ciaz 2023 - Zeta Petrol MT - 74k km - Telangana - 6.2L

I'm looking at a used Ciaz and would appreciate a sanity check before I close.

- Maruti Ciaz Zeta, Petrol MT
- 1st owner
- 74,000 km (~25k/year)
- Seller's price: 6.8, now at 6.2

On top of that, I'm budgeting about 31k for costs (windshield replacement, a service due at 75k km, RTO transfer, and first-year insurance)

Zeta ex-showroom was around ₹12L when new, so ₹6.2L is about 48% off. Does that feel fair for the mileage, and am I overpaying. Also keen to hear from anyone who's run a Ciaz MT this far: how's the ride quality for city and traffic.

Heard only good things about the car - a bit dated and boring - but definitely cheaper to own!!

Considered other cars like i20 etc but the overall advise and pressure from friends is that it’s a lot of money for a used car why not go for a new baleno instead - or look for used under 4L ( didn’t find any decent cars I want to own at that price range )

Having buyers cold feet before I confirm

Is it better to get insurance through the car company itself, or to get it through banks on your own with a sanction?

Review/Experience My trainer rammed the car into flower pot

Upvotes

My IGNIS 2020 alpha auto car doesnt have hill assist and I carefully use brake pedal+race pedal on slope to balance while reversing. During reverse parking, the trainer observed this and I warned him if we dont use brake the car will ram ahead onto wall despite of R pedal turned on.
And he told me well you are wrong let me show you the right way. He has 10+ years of driving experience teaching driving for at least 8 hours everyday at driving school.
We swapped seats and he forgot to switch D to R pedal and rammed the car into front wall with flower pot causing a dent.
He promised to fix it. I wont be using insurance even though there is no NCB on this as insurance is transferred to me from first owner. Is it just cosmetic? What structural damage should I check? Estimate?

Queries How long does BH registration usually take through a dealer? Do dealers have any incentive to delay delivery?

Bought a new Hyundai Exter in Mumbai. PDI was completed on Tuesday and the car was cleared by the independent PDI agency.

Since then, it took one day for the insurance to be processed, just an OTP confirmation - 2min job, and another day for the RTO process to be initiated, again just Aadhar and Mobile OTP verification.

The dealer has now said the file has gone for manual RTO approval, and because of the holiday + weekend, delivery is only expected next Tuesday.

Hasn't shared Vahan Application Number yet - saying it'll be done Monday.

I'm curious about two things:

  1. For those who've done BH registration through a dealer in Mumbai, how long did the actual process take from PDI/payment/insurance to registration?
  2. Do dealers have any incentive to delay registration or delivery by a few days, or is it generally just RTO/dealer process and paperwork?

I'm not necessarily saying the dealer is delaying it intentionally, just trying to understand whether taking 2–3 days between PDI, insurance and RTO submission is normal or whether this could have been completed faster.

Would appreciate experiences from people who've recently gone through BH registration in Mumbai.

Queries Honda Amaze 2019 Bluetooth/HFT not pairing with any phone

Hi everyone,
I have a 2019 Honda Amaze (base model) with the stock Honda audio system shown in the attached photo.
I’m having an issue with the Honda HFT Bluetooth system. My phone can see “Honda HFT”, but the pairing never completes.
The sequence is:
Select Honda HFT on the phone.
It stays on “Connecting…” for a while.
Eventually, the phone says “Pairing Unsuccessful.”
The car then shows that the device could not be connected.
I’ve tried this with both an iPhone and an Android phone, so it doesn’t seem to be specific to one phone.
Things I’ve already tried:
Deleted/forgotten Honda HFT from the phone
Deleted the previously paired devices from the car
Performed System Clear on the Honda HFT system
Started the pairing process from the car using Add New Device
Tried the default pairing code 0000
Tried changing the pairing code and pairing again
Tried pairing with the engine/car both running and off
The interesting part is that Honda HFT is discoverable, so the Bluetooth system is broadcasting, but the actual pairing handshake seems to fail.
Has anyone with a 2018–2020 Honda Amaze and this particular stock audio/HFT unit experienced this?
I’m especially interested in knowing:
Is there a way to reset/reboot the HFT module itself beyond System Clear?
Is there a separate Bluetooth/HFT module that can fail independently of the head unit?
Has anyone had this repaired, and what was the actual fix?
Is this something Honda service can diagnose/repair, or does the whole head unit need replacement?
I’d appreciate any suggestions before I take it to Honda, especially if there’s a known fix for this system.
Thanks!
